07/03/2010 at 05:00 PM ET

Could he be a budding Red Sox fan? Jack Matthew Lauer, 9, grips a glove and listens closely as Matt Lauer explains the finer points of the game as the Red Sox and Rays faced off at Fenway Park on Tuesday in Boston. The Today show anchor and wife Annette Roque are also parents to daughter Romy, 6½, and son Thijs, 3½.

Sox fan?? Hardly!! Anyone who watches the Today Show knows the playful banter Matt (the Yankees fan) and Meredith (the Sox fan) have, especially when one plays the other! Looks like a good dad and true baseball fan is just showing his son a great time in an historic park… So sweet! Jack looks just like his papa. Love Matt Lauer!!

Boy does Jack ever look like his dad. It is always great to see celebrity dads spending time with their kids.

How do you pronounce Thijs? I have no idea how to even attempt to pronounce it. Cute kid though.

Here in the Netherlands many many kids’ names are Thijs.
Thijs is here like James and Alex in America.

I don’t really like the name, though.
They use Romy here often, too.
love the kid, he’s beautiful

Its said to be pronounced ‘Tice’

Thijs is pronounced “Tice”. It is to honor his mom hertitage.

Thijs is pronounced “Tice.” It is a common Dutch name for boys. Matt’s wife is Dutch.

Wow, they look a great deal alike. Would love to see a photo with all 3 kids sometime.

Luna, Matt has spoken about their youngest son on the Today Show & the Lauers’ pronounce Thijs as “Tice”. Think “mice” with a T. 🙂

@Luna I think it’s pronounced like “Tice”, but I’m not 100% sure. It’s the Dutch form of Matthew

Thanks. I didn’t have even an inkling of how to say that. I actually like that name and it’s meaning (honoring Mom’s heritage).

Wow, the spitting image of his dad indeed!. Cute kid.

Thijs is the short version of Matthijs, which is the Dutch form of Matthew. Like others have said, it’s pronounced “tyce” (the ij combo in Dutch is most similar to a y sound).
