Look for Less: Sasha Obama’s Tween Chic

06/08/2010 at 10:00 AM ET

Whether shopping in Paris or returning home from a Hawaiian getaway, Sasha Obama is one super cute jetsetter.

While returning home from a family trip to her hometown Chicago during Memorial Day weekend, the 8-year-old wowed us again.

She wore Flowers by Zoe‘s grey ZigZag Dress ($60), white leggings and purple sandals — topped off with a zebra print tote.

Love Sasha’s style? You’re in luck. We’ve rounded up a similar outfit — with pieces all under $25!

Courtesy of Target

Dress

Instead of a black zig zag print, Xhilaration‘s Sleeveless Tank ($8) sports a pretty sequin stripe down the front. Plus, it’s flared for a more flattering fit.

Leggings

Looking for affordable and stylish leggings? Try the cute and comfy Cropped Leggings ($13) at budget-friendly tween boutique, Justice.

Sandals

We’re loving Charlotte Russe‘s Beaded T-Strap Flat Sandals ($10), which come in three fab colors (purple chocolate and tan). The beaded detail takes this simple T-strap style up a notch.

Tote

Boy, were we excited when we found  ALFA‘s Zebra Carry On ($25). Not only does it feature a similar zebra pattern as Sasha’s, but it’s also trimmed in pink. It’s also roomy enough to double as a tween weekender bag.

Alisa on

While I don’t agree with Obama’s political views, Malia and Sasha are very pretty girls!

Jessica on

Why do so many people insist on writing “I don’t agree with such a such’s view” on a celebrity style post. It’s irrelevant.

Anyway, the dress and shoes are cute I think they are Dolce Vita.

Sarah on

She looks super-cute and stylish while not showing too much skin! Nice =)

Emma on

Sasha is so cute =)

Jenn on

I am with Alisa on this one.

Sandra on

She’s 8 years old? Wow she looks too grown up. Why are designers making such mature clothes for kids nowadays? Shouldn’t kids just look like kids? Madonna’s daughter Lourdes looks too old. Are there age appropriate clothes out there?

Manal on

they have beautiful coloring!!

Carmen on

I’m with Jessica. There is no need to mention that. There is nothing political in the post.
Back on topic:Love the outfit and think is is very age appropriate. And Sasha is getting so tall!

Erica2 on

OMG Jenn and Alisa please leave PRESIDENT Obama out of this. Some teaguzzling pachyderms have a way of tainting even the most innocent of blogs about the first daughters, please post comments relevant to the topic “Sasha Obama’s Tween Chic” and post your political views on the Fox News website where they might actually care! PRESIDENT Obama is nowhere in the photo and you still find it appropriate to take political aim at the expense of the first daughter…how would you like it if your children were ridiculed for people’s opinions of you on the job…please go sip on a scolding hot cup of tea and grab an ounce of tact on the side! By the way, this is a lovely shot of the first daughter…Sasha looks stylish, age appropriate, and adorable Malia’s outfit (standing next to Sasha) is very fun and girly too! PERIOD. WOW, Sasha’s hair is growing so long! GO SASHA and MALIA, they are wonderful examples of America’s tweens for the world to admire. The PRESIDENT and First Lady Michelle Obama both do a great job of raising the girls to be smart, polite, and well-kempt young ladies. I am glad that the first daughters still keep in touch with their friends in Chicago.

J on

Jessica it’s the same as when people do those silly sandwich comments, they say something nice, sneak in the negative comment to bash the celeb kid, and then add something else nice to make it seem better.

Ella on

I am with Sandra, do not think it is age appropriate at all. Could be worn by Michelle instead… BUT: she is the President’s daughter, we do not know the occasion of this picture, maybe she should not wear a Dora T-Shirt here…

Dana on

Wow Erica2, just wow. Do you know how ridiculous you sound? Pretty laughable…..for the record, I am firmly in the Alisa/Jenn camp.

Jennifer on

Politics aside, at least the Obamas dress their daughters in age appropriate clothing. Hello Willow Smith??

Jennifer on

and Erica, just because I’m not a a supporter of the Obamas politics does not make me a “teaguzzling pachyderm”. Seriously, take it down a notch. How many comments about Katherine Heigl’s daughter start with “I can’t stand her but…”. Take a deep breath and chill…

Lauren on

I think she looks adorable. Very cute outfit.

I don’t get why politics gets brought in to her outfit. I think Erika took it a little too far with her comments, but it is so unnecessary. When I saw John Travolta and Kelly Preston were expecting, I didn’t say, well I don’t believe in Scientology but….. One has NOTHING to do with the other.

Ella, And a Dora shirt for an 8 year old? My daughter is 8 and going into 4th grade and would not wear a Dora shirt.

Erica2 on

Dana, who cares if you firmly agree with Jenn and Alisa and do not share the same political views as our President. Please read the title of the article “Sasha Obamas Tween Chic” this has nothing to do with agreeing with the President on global warming, immigration, education, and the stimulus plan/bailout! Please go to the FOX News Website to bash the President I firmly believe you are on the wrong site! This is a Celebrity Blog asking about your opinion on a TWEEN’S OUTFIT. Reading is fundamental! Please keep your political views seperate from the first daughters they are children that should not be judged or subjected to political opinions that you have of their father.

lulu on

Very cute and stylish malia and sasha are gorg.. and I am a supporter of Pres. Obama… there I said it…

Alisa on

Actually, I agree with Jessica. I think it’s irrelevant to include the “While I don’t agree with his political views…” But since you guys insist on saying that whenever a photo of Elisabeth Hasselbeck (or any other known conservative) comes up, I just think it should go both ways.

Sandra on

Erica2 you do need to chill. Alisa didn’t ‘bash’ the president. Alisa is right on the mark when conservatives are featured in this blog most commentors always start off with “I don’t agree with…” Hypocrisy rears it’s ugly head. Malia is a cute girl, but the clothes are too old for an 8 year old.

Erica2 on

I make no apologizes for my words. Adults using a blog about a child’s outfit to interject their political opinions IMO is pathetic and they should back off! I never said it was okay to critize Elizabeth Hasselbeck, or Katherine Heigl on a blog dedicated to their child’s outfit, it is wrong either way, nor did I afirm wether I agree with our President. If the blog is about clothes comment on the clothes. I doubt the Obama children, Hasselbeck children, or Heigl’s daughter tell their parents what to say or do.

MB on

Just why we are critiquing an 8 year olds clothing and talking about how “fasionable” it is is WAY beyond me. Why don’t we leave children out of the world of fashion and critique and let them be children???

izzy on

i see nothing wrong with this outfit! i like the whole long shirt + leggings look. its a look that fits people of all ages and sizes.

they people who are hating on this innocent child are the ones that don’t like obama. lemme just tell you, hating his child will do nothing to remove him from office. voice your complaints somewhere where they will actually be taken into consideration because here, you look like a moron.

Erin on

Back in the day when this was a tiny blog there was a general “rule” the moderators requested a person ask before writing. Would you say this to the person’s face? So, in the spirt of sanity, totally aside of where you stand on the political spectrum – can anyone say they’d go up to Sasha and say “I don’t like you dad’s politics but you look super cute!” Nobody does that in real life. Everyone is a rebel online. Dare you to do it in actual life.

nana23 on

i am just trying to figure out what is wrong with her outfit. for you all to say that an eight year old should not wear somthing like this is just ridculous. I think her outfit is very age apporiate.

Marilyn on

Ella: The occasion was them leaving for yet another vaycay.

Alisa on

Izzy – Who said that they “hate” Sasha? What a horrible thing, to assume that we hate her just because we disagree with her dad’s politics. That says a lot about how you feel about conservatives…

dfs on

Erica2 is just as bad as Alisa and Jenn . . . Why is there a need to mention politics in this post? It’s COMPLETELY irrelevant.

dfs on

Izzy, that’s completely ridiculous. Just because someone doesn’t like Sasha’s outfit doesn’t meant they don’t like her father’s politics.

J-Lin on

Her outfit is really cute. It’s stylish, she’s completly covered, and it looks comfortable. People who say she needs to be in a Dora shirt are probably grandparents or haven’t had kids since the 1960′s.

Right on Erica2. I totally agree with you.

Marilyn – President Bush took more vacations before 9/11 than most Presidents take in four years.

Sasha and Malia are my favorites along with Kimora’s children.

Erica2 on

Dfs, my point was that there is no need to mention politics on a celebrity blog…please read my comment..the first thing I said is keep PRESIDENT OBAMA out of it and that this forum should not be a means to interject a political opinion the the focus should be focused on the topic of the blog…”Sasha Obama’s Tween Chic”

Kristin on

She is precious, her outfit is cute. Love this kid!

izzy on

“hating on” doesn’t mean you actually hate her. the second time i mentioned hating, i forgot to put ON. hating on someone means talking crap and criticizing. seems like everyone had something to say about her outfit, which is perfect for a child of her age.

@alisa, you are seriously demented. how i feel about liberals? i don’t involve myself in politics. why? because it’s all a bunch of BS. so rest assured my comment had no hidden messages about liberals. geez.

4GB on

Erica2-Seriously? Are you for real? How long did it take you to write that rude comment? There is no need for name calling and negative energy.

romy on

I think her clothes are perfectly fine for her age! They are not revealing or anything. I also think it’s fine to say something political here if you want. Who cares. The picture brought that to some posters’ minds because of who the girl is. They weren’t bashing the kid. I think it’s sillier to argue with the commenter.

Erin on

Oh. My. God. The point is that the mentioning of your political views has nothing to do with the clothes Sasha is wearing. It’s called a non sequitur. I wish before bashing anyone’s political views we’d grow up and not use ours as a guise to knock the President under a topic banner entitled “Sasha Obama’s Tween Chic”. (And I’d say the same if this was a thread about Jenna Bush and someone said they didn’t like her dad!) There’s a time and a place, people.

ang on

aww she looks cute but miserable.i just wanna give her a hug
=(

christina on

Beautiful young lady! The comments here leave a lot to be desired though…In fact, I thought the press had agreed to leave the girls alone to protect them from this very scrutiny!?

LaDonna on

- Erica2
You kind of took things down an ugly path when you referred to “Some teaguzzling pachyderms”. That is a very politically charged comment and definitely not appropriate for the subject matter. You were chastising Alisa for her comment, which you felt was inappropriate for the subject matter. Alisa’s comment involved no name calling. Are you familiar with the old saying “two wrongs don’t make a right”? PUT DOWN THE KOOL-AID! Yes, I know that’s wrong, but I just couldn’t help myself given your attitude about the whole thing.

Lola on

Sandra and Ella, how is her outfit not age-appropriate? Sure, it’s not very colorful or frilly like many outfits for little girls, but that doesn’t necessarily make it more mature. Maybe she just doesn’t like wearing colorful, flashy clothes. I agree that it looks more like something a teenager or even an adult might wear, but it looks great on her, too! She’s obviously not showing too much skin or trying to draw unnecessary attention to herself, so what’s the problem?

T on

What is not age appropriate about this outfit??? She is covered no short shorts, no midrif, just a cute dress and leggings a perfect travel outfit :)

Jill on

Tween? She is only 8 years old going on 9. She just finished the third grade! Come on People — she should not be called a tween. Next they will be calling toddlers tweens!

Alisa on

Jill, I totally agree! It’s sad that children can’t just be “children” for very long anymore.

Angelina on

I happen to think this outfit is age appropriate but the $60 price tag for a 8 year olds tank top is RIDICULOUS!!

ang- I would look miserable if he was my dad too!! :P

LaDonna on

@Lee – Erica2 made a derogatory political reference to the comment that Alisa made that she did not agree with Obama’s political view, but thought his daughters were lovely. In no way shape or form did Alisa insult any political party, while she prefaced her comment with a remark that may not have been necessary, she indulged in nothing even vaguely insulting or that could have been construed as name calling. Erica2 responded to her by referring to “Some teaguzzling pachyderms”. How is that not a derogatory political comment?

I cannot believe that you can sit there and honest defend a response like that. What Erica2 said was far more inappropriate than anything that Alisa said. There is no need for something like that. FYI didn’t appreciate your remark and I don’t need directions to the FOX site. You are making a presumption about me based on my decision to defend a remark by someone that I may or may not agree with. I am not trying to turn this a political discussion/debate. I rarely comment on this forum because of things like this, too many bullies for me and too many people who accuse someone of something that they are just as guilty of themselves. As someone else also noted, there are lots of posts about Elizabeth Hasselbeck where they start off with “they don’t agree with her political views……..” no one gets chastised for that.

My point, you can’t pick and choose who to criticize and who not criticize. All that being said, it is cute outfit, if not practical (from a financial point of view) for most families. Sasha looks great in it.

Ali on

Um Jill…the definition of “tween” is 8-12 years old. She IS a tween. The whole term was invented for girls that have aged out of playing house with baby dolls but aren’t quit at the “sit around and try on make-up while talking about boys” teenage stage. Eight going on nine IS a tween. It is a hard age to categorize what is appropriate for clothing and play. Some girls are still very young at this age, some are feeling much older. This is one of the few times a celebrity site has actually used the word correctly. It drives me crazy when Miley Cyrus is referred to as a tween when she is on the late end of TEEN.

Terri on

The girls always look cute. Sasha is going to be a little fashionista. I can just tell. The outfit is probably a little too grown-up for an eight year old, but not ridiculously so.

Erin on

LaDonna you are delusional. Getting into a fight about politics on a celebrity kid blog is hilarious. I’m so glad I came back to this site right before bed – it gave me a laugh. So glad you took your own advice and didn’t get involved in the two wrongs don’t make a right muck. And then to throw down the Kool-Aide card. Priceless. This entire site has gone to the dogs since People magazine picked it up.

MiB on

I am wrecking my head trying to figure out how this outfit could not be age appropriate. Is it the colour? Because I was never much for pink and I would never have worn a Dora T-shirt (if Dora had existed whwn I was that age). To me it looks like something my goddaughers 9 year old sister would wear, and perfect for a flight to boot!

Lauren on

I can’t believe the level some of you have gone to. This is a child. She like all other children, didn’t chose her parents, didn’t chose their political backgrounds, didn’t chose their professions, etc. Let’s like at her as a child/tween. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but this shouldn’t be a bash session b/c this is a child/tween.

To say she looks miserable is just wrong. Ang and Angelina, how would you feel if someone said your child looked miserable? My nephew has been told this before and let me tell you it BREAKS my heart.

In the world of the internet, it is very easier for the children to see these comments, so you should think before you type. If the page was about Obama, then by all means type what you want. But when the page is about one of his children, you should have respect.

I am disgusted as to what this site has become. CBB, you should look into monitoring what people can write. Between this post and the post about Will Smith’s daughter, I am speechless.

Angelina on

Lauren get over yourself! I didnt say she LOOKED miserable and agreed her outfit was cute….its people like you who twist words and make things a bigger deal then they need to be! This is a blog if you dont like it, dont look!

Dee on

Personally I think they should disable the comment sections for the president’s children.

No offense but I get that Americans are split on the issue of the man’s politics but cant you people just say cute outfit or something of the sort and move on?

It’s so distasteful bringing political agenda on a site thats supposed to highlight celebrity kids and their style or parenting from the stars.

I dont necessarily agree with everything my Prime Minister says or does but his children have nothing to do with his job. They are kids!!!!

J-Lin on

What has your father done to help mankind Angelina?

Lauren on

Angelina,
I did not twist your words….I interpreted them. You should watch what you say and be more clear.

I can’t find your comment where you said it was cute and not sure you even know what you are saying. Your statement was “I happen to think this outfit is age appropriate but the $60 price tag for a 8 year olds tank top is RIDICULOUS!! ang- I would look miserable if he was my dad too!!”

I don’t think I did anything wrong in understanding what you were saying as you clearly didn’t say it was cute and using the word too means also.

Angelina, I am so sorry, you are one angry person. Anyone who uses capital letters and yells has issues.

ArgentinaRose on

I DON’T THINK HER OUTFIT IS TOO GROWN UP FOR HER AGE.AT LEAST SHE’S WEARING “FLATS” UNLIKE SURI CRUISE WHO IS ONLY 4yrs OLD,AND WEARING PUMPS! I DON’T CARE IF THEY MAKE THEM FOR KIDS AND IN HER SIZE, THAT KID IS NOT BEING GROOMED IN AGE APPROPRIATE ATTIRE. NOT TO MENTION THE MAKEUP THAT SHE WEARS. I DON’T READ ANY NEGATIVE COMMENTS ABOUT HER,I WONDER WHY.

ArgentinaRose on

DEE, I AGREE WITH YOU. I THINK ITS A SHAME THAT THE GROWNUPS HERE ARE ACTING LIKE HIGH SCHOOL KIDS. GETTING INTO A SLUGFEST ON A BLOG SITE IS REALLY IMMATURE! HOW SAD, GROW UP PEOPLE.

ladonna on

@ lee & erin – you two are incredible (and not in a good way). The two of you refuse to see the wrong of the comment that was made about “Some teaguzzling pachyderms” to begin with. That is my whole problem, putting down one person’s political beliefs regardless of what side of the fence they fall on is wrong.

Neither of you can acknowledge that was an insulting remark made towards those who follow this blog and may lean in a conservative direction when it comes to politics. If you took the time to read what I had written rather than be incensed because someone presents a point different than you, you would understand that I am not debating politics but rather our right to have differing opinions when it comes to politics. the beauty of this country is that you are free to follow what you believe in. you should be able to do that without being persecuted or made to feel that you are wrong for those beliefs.

And Erin, I am so glad that I am here for your amusement. Granted the Kool Aid remark was unnecessary (see I can admit when I am wrong) but the “Some teaguzzling pachyderms” remark that was okay?? I am not getting how you came to that. Keeping the politics out of it applies to both side. So Erin, you in turn are providing me with a great deal of amusement as well. But as Lee has pointed out, that is just me and my lame comments. I guess it is lame to apologize for an inappropriate remark, as I have done, and lame to try to say that we should have tolerance for everyone’s political (and other as far as that goes) beliefs and views.

Amy on

Not even going to step into the politics debate, but I see no issue with her outfit. She is beautiful and Barack and Michelle are doing a great job parenting their ladies!

Erin on

LaDonna, I wasn’t the one to call you a tebagging whatever it was! Not guilty – didn’t do it! I also wasn’t the one directing you to the Fox News site. Go back and read my previous posts. I was the one saying politics don’t have a place on this particular thread. You concurred, and then promptly hurled yourself into the muck! You just could not contain yourself, apparently. There you were, horrifically offended by being called a teabagger, and then began accusing others of being Obama’s cultish Kool-Aid drinkers! I can’t believe I’ve wasted my time trying to make a point about how silly this all is. My only excuse is that I’m on medical leave at the moment from having had surgery. Maybe I should claim it was for insanity – because that’s how I feel for getting involved in this back-and-forth. Insane. (BTW, I hope you don’t have a job where you’re accountable on a regular basis. Because attaching comments to a non-offending party is taboo in my line of work. Do a little more homework before you come out accusing someone who didn’t say what you claim they did.)

SarahP on

I’m not clear on what people consider “age appropriate.” Sasha is clean, well-groomed, not overly sexualized, and is wearing stylish clothing. I think it’s fantastic when young girls/women show a sense of style and maturity at the same time. Maybe that’s what got everyone so bothered about Willow Smith’s outfit at the Karate Kid premiere…she was high on style points but rather low on demonstrating maturity in her wardrobe choice. Willow is not alone – I think it’s what bothers me about many adult celebrities who still don’t know how to dress…they look like kids playing dress-up who were never told to take their costumes off….

I think this photo shows clearly how this young lady is being taught to respectfully and stylishly dress herself, which, considering her position in the media spotlight, is rather important, if only to her self-esteem.

Erica2 on

OMG…I see that my “teaguzzling pachyderms” line is a big hit maybe I should create a t-shirt and market it on EBAY lol. My original point still stands DON’T BRING YOUR OPINIONS ABOUT PRESIDENT OBAMA INTO A BLOG ABOUT SASHA OBAMA’S TWEEN CHIC SHE IS A CHILD, BACK OFF AND SNEAK IN LOW BLOWS ON ANOTHER SITE. DON’T DISH IT IF YOU CAN’T TAKE IT YOU CAN’T INSULT AND EXPECT NOT TO BE INSULTED! IF YOU HAVE ISSUES WITH THE PRESIDENT’S POLITICAL VIEWS WHICH YOU ARE ENTITLED TO HAVE PLEASE EXPRESS THEM ON THE FOX NEWS WEBSITE AND NOT ON A BLOG ABOUT CELEBRITY FASHION OR AT THE EXPENSE OF AN 8 YEAR OLD CHILD. LADONNA FOR THE RECORD, I DIDN’T SAY IT WAS OK TO BASH ELIZABETH HASSELBECK (I DONT CARE ENOUGH ABOUT HER TO DO SO), NOR DID I SAY I WORSHIP THE GROUND THE PRESIDENT WALKS ON HE. PLEASE TAKE MY ADVICE SIP ON A CUP OF TEA OR KOOL-AID ITS YOUR CHOICE (NEITHER ARE MY PREFERENCE), GRAB AN OUNCE OF TACT, AND EXPRESS YOUR DISLIKE ABOUT THE PRESIDENT ON THE FOX WEBSITE AND NOT AT THE EXPENSE OF THE FIRST DAUGHTER. SASHA OBAMA U AND YOUR SISTER’S FASHION ROCKS! GIRLY, FUN, AGE APPROPRIATE, STYLISH, AND FABULOUS KEEP SHINING FOR THE WORLD TO SEE!

Erin2, I’m sorry, but your comments are so fraught with poor grammar that it’s hard to understand what you’re trying to say. Proofreading may help you to get your point(s) across.

Erica2
If you make and market the tee shirts, sign me up for a dozen!

Erin on

dfs – please tell me you’re speaking about Erica2 and not me, Erin. (I’ve never gone by Erin2) I’m guilty of typing a lot, but hopefully not using (too much) bad grammar. And if grammar is seriously your thing, check out your second post. It should be “mean”, not “meant”. Don’t throw stones.

The outfit is age appropriate. Glad to see an African American girl under much scrutiny comfortable with herself. I have a seven year old and I would allow her to wear an outfit like that. Our(African American) bodies are shaped diffrently. White America has no idea what Black America has to deal. Answer this: How do I explain to my seven year old daughter why another kid is calling her a “muddy n!gger”? Thank you Sasha for being a positive example for other little girls. I love the First family.

angela on

SOME OF YOU SOUND LIKE PLAYER HATERS, GO AND GET A LIFE AND MAYBE YOU WOULDN’T BE HERE BASHING THE PRESIDENTS’ DAUGHTER, I HAVE 8 YEARS OLD GRANDCHILDREN, TWEENS AND SO FORTH AND THEIR PARENTS DRESS THEM THE SAME WAY, THESE CLOTHES ARE STYLISH AND AGE APPROPRIATE SO STOP BASHING WHAT THE CHILD HAVE ON, SASHA LOOKS WONDERFUL. YOU GO GIRL. AND TO ALL THE PLAYER HATERS OUT THERE, YOU WISH YOUR CHILDREN COULD LOOK THAT GOOD.

cobbgrl on

Let’s face it ladies, girls mature earlier every generation. If you study some indigenous cultures, some girls get married at 15 and start having babies at 15. I think we must have balance in understanding that change is inevitable and these things change in every generation. I do agreee we shouldn’t let them grow up too fast, but give the girl a break. I think she looks really cute. It’s not like she’s Mylie Cyrus wearing bootie shorts and pole dancing. She’s cute and covered :-) This is one of the most stylish 1st families since the Kennedy’s and we should be happy to have some eye candy in the white house for a change.

Heather on

Seriously??? She is wearing leggings and a tank top…why isn’t the outfit suitable for an eight year old? Would it be more appropriate if she were wearing a mickey mouse shirt? Come on! Some people will always have something negative to say! She could be sporting a turtle neck and jeans, and they would still find something wrong with her clothing. I think she is a beautiful girl that is dressed just fine for her age. To the people that have an issue with her selection in clothing, I would hate to see how you dress/dressed your children…..yikes!

justcindy on

I think there are better things to talk about instead of the Presidents daughter There are kids out there that have no clothes or shoes in America So its not fait to rub in those kids faces what another little girl has Who cares what Presidents daughter wears I dont I feel sorry for the kids thta dont have clothes but do u see pics of them on here ?

A on

Why on Earth should anyone be filling this poor little girls head with comments on her wardrobe? She is too young to even be worrying about what outfit she steps out of air force one in! They would be better off caring about their health, happiness and education! And for all you that don’t know, her hair is filled with chemical relaxers that can disintegrate a can of coke. They should focus on their roots as African Americans, not try to fit in with the high society, celebrity African American hair world. They are too young for these type of chemicals, and it leads to future damage, and possible other side effects. For those that read this and use relaxers who will want to claim any differently, you are lying to yourself. Also, the cost for Michelle, Malia and Sasha’s hair is easily starts at the low price of $400.00 per person, and that’s for a mom and pop shop “perm”. They are adding to the stigma of true African American hair by trying to recreate “white” hair, which actually comes from India from people who donate it in the name of religion, only to be sold unknowingly to them for thousands of dollars to Mrs. Obama.

Heather on

Alisa, how are your political views in any way relevant to her attire???? Just had to make sure that you announced your political standings huh? That is inappropriate on so many levels, in addition to being simple. So give yourself a pat on the back for successfully making yourself look ridiculous! Mission accomplished!!!

Kaye on

@A – You’re just as bad as the people talking about her clothing, with the hair issue. Are you their personal hair stylist? Seriously, how do you know whether or not they have permed hair and how much it costs? You do realize you can get African-American hair straight without the use of chemicals, don’t you? Actually, a simple wash, good conditioning and blowdry sometimes works great. Obviously, you are oblivious to that as you felt the need to spew your “grassroots” rhetoric about the subject. Let it go…let it flow (or get a straightening comb if you’re going to hate).

Jennifer J. MI on

Ladies, ladies, L-A-D-I-E-S! The topic is Tween Chic not voice your political beliefs. My God! Stay on task!

Take the political rhetoric to websites who have topics that address your beliefs weather pro or against President Obama.

lizzielui on

A,

Please stop. Relaxers for black children’s hair DO NOT cost $400. In fact, most adult black women do not pay that much for a relaxer. My family owns two black hair care salons in Brooklyn and three in the Washington DC area and the prices for such services are no where near that much. I don’t where you are getting your information but what you just posted is not the truth. Furthermore, Sasha and Malia DO NOT have chemically relaxed hair. I know this for a fact. Malia’s hair in this picture was blown out and flat ironed. No chemicals at all. And please stop trying to force your ideal on what it is to be “black” and what you think we all should be doing with our hair onto others. Everyone who has “natural” hair is not down for the cause just like everywhere who has straight hair isn’t against it.

koko on

sasha is such a cute! what wears is secondary. she is still a baby

latonya on

I read the post on here and find them quite interesting, especially the ones about Sasha not being age appropriate, what???…I’m not even going to address that because it was stupid and negativity seems to be the in thing today…but what I will address is the post by A…you said that Sasha and Malia’s hair was permed and altogether including the first lady their hair care cost $400 per person…and that they use weave and blah, blah, blah blah…first, I agree with the post that there are no chemicals in the girls hair, the mother yes, the daughters no…if you know anything about genetics you would know that they don’t need chemicals, their father is half black and half white so they have a pretty good grade of hair and their mother has stated that she doesn’t put chemicals in their hair because she thinks its’ too grown up of a process for them…like the others on here this site was entertainment and I have seen kids in worse a tank dress, leggings and sandals are age appropriate, I’ve seen babies with the same thing on…come on people I know we have better things to do than this…I don’t remember this much negativity when the bush girls were caught drinking and driving, nobody worried what was age appropriate for them…

Tiffany on

Are you serious? This is supposed to be a simple blog about a young child’s outfit, instead it’s been made into some war over words…..just leave a comment about the outfit (the subject at hand) and keep it movin’. I think her outfit is adorable, nothing inappropiate about it at all. Leave the bs about her father and politics alone. *sheesh*
