She dressed Sandra Bullock, Gabourey Sidibe and Vera Farmiga for the Oscars, but expectant designer Georgina Chapman is mum about who will wear Marchesa to Monday night’s star-studded Costume Institute Gala, held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
“It’s top secret!” she told PEOPLE Friday at the Tribeca Film Festival and Cinema Society premiere of Ultrasuede: In Search of Halston.
Luckily, the pregnant British fashion designer and wife of movie mogul Harvey Weinstein was far less secretive about her baby on the way, due in August.
“We’re really excited. I’m just trying to get everything done before Fashion Week so that I’m prepared for when she comes,” Chapman, 34, said.
Asked to confirm that they’re having a girl, Chapman replied, “Well, we don’t know. I’m calling it that because I have three stepdaughters, so I’m used to [saying] that.”
Glowing in a tiered Halston gown, Chapman also confessed to considering launching a Marchesa maternity line.
“It might not be a bad idea,” she said. And who better to offer tips for looking fabulous through each trimester?
“Every woman carries differently so it’s a whole process, learning how to dress a new body. It’s fun though,” she notes.
“I’m into tight things, loose things — everything! And actually Halston’s quite good for it. It works.”
