While stepping into character can be a challenge for any actor, Christine Taylor had to dig extra deep for her latest role as ‘The Super Villain’s Nagging Wife’ on Phineas and Ferb, alongside husband Ben Stiller.
“Our kids are such fans of the show. Ben had met the producer and they asked him to do an episode. We’re sitting there chatting … and they say, ‘Wait a second. Would you do a line or two for us?’” she told PEOPLE Moms & Babies Wednesday at a Project A.L.S. benefit in Los Angeles.
“And then ‘Nagging Wife’ comes about and I thought, ‘Wait, is that how I come across?! Was I putting out some bad energy or something?!’”
Although the couple’s kids Ella Olivia, 8, and Quinlin Dempsey, 4½, were thrilled with their parents’ participation, Taylor, 38, jokes she was caught off guard — by both the offer and her character’s name!
“I was just there for support. I’m the one that knows Dr. Doofenshimrtz’s lines, not Ben!” she says, adding that Ella and Quinlin were impressed by her spot-on acting as she is “super sugary-sweet at home.”
“It ended up being very funny, and our kids loved it, because they love seeing me do unrecognizable things. They thought it was hilarious.”
