Emma Thompson: ‘I Draw Strength’ From Daughter’s Birth

Flynet

In a new interview with the UK’s Guardian newspaper, actress Emma Thompson, 50, hints at the fertility struggle she endured both before and after becoming mom to 10-year-old Gaia Romilly.

Abandoning the effort — following three unsuccessful years of failed IVF — was particularly difficult, Thompson says, because she found the act of childbirth so empowering.

“Even now, when things are bad I go back and I remember the birth process,” she explains.

“I can transport myself back to that moment when Gaia was born — it’s like a well from which I draw strength.”

Cool and Customizable Highchairs from Mutsy

Courtesy of Mutsy

If your tastes run more modern, you’ll want to check out Mutsy‘s hip, new highchairs. Getting ready for mealtime has never been easier — or looked so good.

Both the Easygrow ($200) and Easygrow Next ($250) come with an easy-to-adjust (it tilts) dinner tray and bumper bar to keep tots secure. And they feature nine different height positions so your child can eat at the table or the breakfast bar. The adjustable footrests also slide up or down, or can be removed completely.

Added bonus: The lightweight high chairs — they each weigh just 16.5 pounds — safely seat a child weighing up to 100 pounds, eliminating the need for booster seats.

Overall, we love the sleek look. The Easygrow is available in white/aluminum or dark grey/aluminum, while the Easygrow Next comes in navy or brown with a brushed aluminum frame.

P. Diddy’s Son Christian Turns 12 – Vegas Style!

Al Powers

It’s a weekend being spent celebrating his 12th birthday in Vegas for Christian and dad Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs!

The three-day affair started off in style as the excited tween pulled up to The Palazzo in a black tour bus on Thursday.

Keeping plenty of good company along the way, Christian and Diddy were joined by mom Kim Porter, brothers Justin, 16, and Quincy, 18, and a handful of friends including Tyson Beckford‘s son Jordan and Faith Evans‘ son Josh.

Dining on kid-friendly delicacies such as pizza and shrimp scampi, the evening was not complete before a round of Shirley Temples were ordered for the younger crowd.

When it was time to cut the custom cake from Gimme Some Sugar — adorned with all of Christian’s favorites including the Hollywood sign, a basketball net, and even an iPod — the proud father raised his glass and offered up a celebratory toast to his youngest son.

Usher’s Advice on Parenting: Don’t Wear White

PA Photos/Landov

His wardrobe may be filled with crisp suits and coordinating fedoras, but Usher‘s sleek style is no match for his two young sons!

“Having kids man, don’t wear white. Have you ever had an explosion?” the singer asked George Lopez on Lopez Tonight Thursday. “Changing the diaper, obviously when they gotta go they gotta go.”

And for the star’s two sons Usher ‘Cinco’ Raymond V, 2 ½, and Naviyd Ely, 15 months, sometimes that sudden urge to go comes right on dad’s lap!

“I just decided, if anybody is going to [poop] on me it would be my kids,” he says. “That is real love, man. It’s like, ‘How do you produce this much doodoo?’”

But fatherhood is much more than dirty diapers and juice stains, Usher, 31, points out.

“One of the most incredible experiences in life is to be able to put all of your energy and effort into making sure that you raise an incredible young man,” he says of his children with ex-wife Tameka Foster.

“I have two young boys that I love very much and I just want them to be the most incredible young men that they can be.”

Spotted: Katie Holmes and Suri’s Dinner Date

Jackson Lee/Splash News Online

Still no sun!

While out in New York City on Thursday with mom Katie Holmes, Suri Cruise — decked out in her dance wear — peeked out from under her umbrella to check the weather.

The actress and her 3 ½-year-old ballerina worked up an appetite running errands! The pair ended their evening with dinner at Le Pain Quotidien.

Dad Tom Cruise skipped out on this outing. Maybe he’s prepping for the June release of Knight and Day, his latest flick alongside Cameron Diaz?

Bret Michaels: Lead singer of Poison, Rock of Love lothario and … doting dad?

Get Michaels talking about his daughters and any preconceptions about the bandanna-sporting, tattooed rocker quickly melt away.

The most important thing I’ve taught them is that I love them,” Michaels, 47, says of his daughters Raine, 9 ½, and Jorja, 4 ½. “I may not be there every day of their life, but I call them three [or] four times a day.”
