Chris Rock Tries (and Fails) to Be a ‘Cool Dad’

Larry Busacca/Getty Image

His funny factor may be through the roof, but Chris Rock‘s dad status is not nearly as impressive.

“I’m friend dad, as much as I try to be the cool dad, kids just don’t think you’re cool,” he confesses to iVillage.

Even his show business connections, which led Rock to introduce daughters Lola Simone, 7½, and Zahra Savannah, 5½, to Justin Bieber recently, have yet to increase his popularity among the girls. “[But still,] I’m just dad,” he points out.

Although he may not be a cool dad, Rock is certainly a doting one, offering plenty of fatherly advice.

“They play a lot of sports and I say … if you learn how to slow it down at trouble, you’ll probably get through it,” the Death of a Funeral star says, adding that he also reminds “the oldest to take care of the youngest constantly.”

Looking forward to Father’s Day, Rock, 45, jokes the perfect gift from wife Malaak and their girls would be a day alone!

“If they just left me alone, just let me go to the Yankees game,” he laughs. “Every Father’s Day there’s a baseball game and I’ve been a father for eight years now and I haven’t been allowed to go to one.”

Alyson Hannigan Celebrates Satyana’s Stand – Solo

Sylvain Gaboury/PR Photos

First-time mom Alyson Hannigan is celebrating daughter Satyana Marie‘s latest milestone — sort of.

“There was a milestone, but it was just she and I in a room. She was up on her table and she took her hands off — both her hands — for a little second and I was like, ‘Oh my God!’” she revealed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Wednesday.

Lasting only a brief moment before Satyana reached for the table, the How I Met Your Mother actress was thrilled — until she realized husband Alexis Denisof had missed the momentous occasion.

“Do I tell him or do I not tell him? So I called my friend [who said], ‘You gotta tell him, it counts, but play up the whole, “Oh, it was just for a second,”‘” Hannigan, 36, says.

“So I’m like, ‘Honey, I almost missed it, if I had blinked’ … But she totally stood up.”

And while the couple are excited that Satyana is now steady on her feet, Hannigan will see to it that the 1-year-old holds off on her first steps!

“We’re not encouraging her to walk, as long as she does it by seven we’ll be okay, but the standing is nice,” she jokes. “If she starts walking I’m just going to trip her, push her down.”

Alison Sweeney: Why It’s Important to Say Goodbye

Courtesy Working Mother

Parting used to be such sweet sorrow for Alison Sweeney and 5-year-old son Benjamin Edward.

“There was a period when he didn’t want me to leave,” the Days of Our Lives star and Biggest Loser host tells Working Mother.

Like many others, Sweeney,  33, says she initially made “the mistake of sneaking out,” but a pediatrician alerted her to the error of her ways.

“[He] said I should say goodbye,” she explains. “He reassured me that children behave that way even if you’re a stay-at-home mom going to the grocery store.”

Instead, Sweeney says she now recognizes the importance of allowing her son to experience separation “and to see that I always come back.”

“We have a routine where we blow kisses,” she continues. “He grabs one kiss and eats it and saves one in his pocket for later.”

Russell Crowe’s Sons Reject Robin Hood

Axelle/Bauer-Griffin

After watching dad Russell Crowe step into character on the set of Robin Hood, sons Charles, 6, and Tennyson, 3½, were initially thrilled to receive a private screening of the film.

“This is a thing they wanted to see and Dad’s going to let them see it … and it’s going to be a spectacular event in their lives,” Crowe joked during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno Monday.

However, when a few last-minute delays left the trio sitting in the theater for over a half-hour, Charlie and Tennyson let their pent-up energy get the best of them.

“In that 35 minutes they do like 20 laps, they’re running around, going in the projection booth and out again and they’re just burning up that energy,” Crowe says, before adding that their excitement began to wane once the film started rolling.

“Literally five minutes in — five minutes in! — and [Charlie] goes, ‘Can we go now, Dad?’ And [Tennyson] is going, ‘Dad? Dad? When are you going to get a horse?’ ‘In a minute, baby. I’ll get one in a minute.’ ‘Yeah, but Dad, when are you going to get a horse?’”

Once the youngest Crowe got his wish, it was all downhill from there, the actor laughs.

“When I got the horse, he goes, ‘Dad, you got the horse, can we go now?’”
