Chris Rock Tries (and Fails) to Be a ‘Cool Dad’

His funny factor may be through the roof, but Chris Rock‘s dad status is not nearly as impressive.

“I’m friend dad, as much as I try to be the cool dad, kids just don’t think you’re cool,” he confesses to iVillage.

Even his show business connections, which led Rock to introduce daughters Lola Simone, 7½, and Zahra Savannah, 5½, to Justin Bieber recently, have yet to increase his popularity among the girls. “[But still,] I’m just dad,” he points out.

Although he may not be a cool dad, Rock is certainly a doting one, offering plenty of fatherly advice.

“They play a lot of sports and I say … if you learn how to slow it down at trouble, you’ll probably get through it,” the Death of a Funeral star says, adding that he also reminds “the oldest to take care of the youngest constantly.”

Looking forward to Father’s Day, Rock, 45, jokes the perfect gift from wife Malaak and their girls would be a day alone!

“If they just left me alone, just let me go to the Yankees game,” he laughs. “Every Father’s Day there’s a baseball game and I’ve been a father for eight years now and I haven’t been allowed to go to one.”

I know he only has two little girls. But who is the little baby his wife is holding in the picture?

- Ashley on

It’s the daughter of a family friend.

wow he doesn’t wanna spend time with his daughters on Father’s day??? weird. But their names are nice. And I like Chris.

@lana, it was a joke, but I think he just means that on a day that’s supposed to be devoted to you, sometimes it’s nice to just have a break and do something you never get to do.

I love this article.:) Not looking forward to once my kids reach the age when I’m not cool anymore.

My advice as an older sibling, Chris Rock, is to please teach your younger daughter to be self-sufficient, just like you taught the older one. It is not fair for you to expect Lola to take care of Zahra just because Lola is older… Kids pick up on that and get tired of it!
