Meet Little Big Town’s Newest Member: Elijah Dylan!
Little Big Town’s Jimi Westbrook and wife Karen Fairchild stick together on stage and in life, so it only made sense that the country couple tackle diaper changes for 5-week-old son Elijah Dylan as a team.
“Elijah hates it, so one does the distraction and one does the work,” says Westbrook, 39, of their strategy.
“I’m usually the one jumping around trying to distract him. There’s a lot of teamwork with us.”
Whether it’s diaper duty or 2 a.m. feedings, the couple — who shared their first photos of their son, born March 5th, with PEOPLE — is relishing parenthood, Westbrook says.
“It’s just a beautiful, beautiful experience, the whole thing, the pregnancy and him being here,” he says. “Your life changes – it’s all about him and that’s OK.”
Even, he says, when that means sleepless nights.
“We get up a couple of times in the middle of the night with him and you’re so tired, but then you look into that sweet little face and it’s just like, the world is good.”
For now, the new family is enjoying together time, but Elijah Dylan — whose names were inspired by a favorite Bible story combined with a love for Gunsmoke character Matt Dillon — will soon hit the road with Mom and Dad.
The trio will join LBT bandmates (and fellow parents) Kimberly Roads Schlapman and Phillip Sweet when the band begins touring again in May – a “daunting” prospect, Westbrook admits.
“We’re just trying to get in the groove of being parents,” says Westbrook. “The real challenge when we’re on the road is when we’re both on stage. We’ll have to bring a nanny out to help us but I’m sure as soon as we’re off stage, we’ll be like, ‘Where’s the baby?'”
