Family Photo: Rachel Weisz Celebrates Her Birthday!

Christopher Peterson/BuzzFoto

Happy 40th birthday to Rachel Weisz!

The Academy Award-winning actress was spotted celebrating her big day with her boys — director fiancé Darren Aronofsky and son Henry Chance, 3 ½ — last Sunday in New York City.

After enjoying lunch together, the trio strolled around the Big Apple before making their way home.

Is there any chance Henry will join Weisz and Aronofsky in the entertainment industry? Not if she can help it, the actress said recently.

“I hope he’s not an actor … I’d dissuade him as hard as I could,” Weisz explains. “The success level is so low. It’s very hard. The odds are so against you.”

Julianne Moore: Why My Career Doesn’t Connect With My Kids

Amy Sussman/Getty

While many of her roles have raised eyebrows, Julianne Moore has some kid-friendly films on her resume as well — but the actress’ body of work has never piqued the interest of Caleb, 12, and Liv Helen, 7 ½, her children with husband Bart Freundlich.

“Our parents are our parents,” she explains to Black Book magazine, “so that’s my connection to my children.”

“My kids have some knowledge about my work, but they’ve never seen any of my movies, not even Jurassic Park. It’s not like I say, ‘Gather around, everyone! It’s time to watch one of Mommy’s movies!’”

Adding that she doesn’t enjoy talk shows, Moore, 49, says that the glimpse of her life offered by those appearances is small.

“If I were being honest, I’d say, well, nothing [is going on],” she jokes. “I picked up my kids from school, then we went to the orthopedist and the dentist.”

That said, her celebrity status often means a paparazzi presence during the daily school run and while Moore says it’s “not often … a real intrusion,” it’s still “a pain” that needs to be dealt with.

“[Liv] fell down and I had to pick her up. I was holding her, and all the while this guy kept taking pictures. That’s when I said, ‘Come on, that’s enough!’”

Giveaway: Rhythm Train Music CD for Kids!

Watch out Jay-Z, Diddy, Eminem!

When Dick Van Dyke and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ drummer Chad Smith got together in the recording studio to make their new kids’ CD Rhythm Train, the result was unexpected: “I did a rap number,” says Mary Poppins star Van Dyke, with a laugh. “Chad did the drums and I laid down the rap. We had a good time. I really can’t wait to do another one.”

So how did this unlikely duo join forces? Van Dyke — famous for his roles in musical classics like Bye Bye Birdie and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang — and the Chili Pepper were brought together by Leslie Bixler, a music teacher who won a Parents Choice Award for her 2005 kids’ CD Moon Food.

“Music is so important to young children’s development. We didn’t want to dumb it down — we wanted to make them real songs,” says Smith, who has two sons — Cole Madison, 4, and Beckett Cash, 1 — with wife Nancy. “My kids listen to The Beatles and everything I listen to in the car and love it. It’s not like they have to have little nursery-rhyme songs. We wanted to make it contemporary and fun — and fun for the parents to listen to, too.”

Love to take a listen for yourself? We’re giving away an autographed copy of the CD to 10 lucky Moms & Babies readers.

Hurry up and enter for your chance to win! Online entries must be received between 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time (“ET”) on 3/15/10 and 11:59 p.m. (ET) on 3/21/10. See Official Rules.

Matt Damon: NYC Allows My Family to Live a ‘Normal Life’

Dave Allocca/Startraks

Matt Damon has traded in the Hollywood Hills for the streets of New York City — and says he prefers the metropolitan lifestyle the Big Apple offers his family.

“They’re all thriving. That’s why we’re so excited about it here,” he tells USA Today of daughters Alexia, 11, Isabella, 3 ½, and Gia Zavala, 18 months, and their adjustment to their new Manhattan hometown.

The paparazzi pursuit is considerably less so on the East Coast explains the actor, admitting that his family of five is able to live a lower-key lifestyle in the city.

“We walk to school every morning. We play in the park. It feels like a normal life,” he notes, adding that Isabella and Gia are oblivious to their father’s celebrity status.

And that, he says, is the reason the Damons won’t be moving any time soon. “We’re not leaving. Nobody bothers me,” he insists.

Isabella and Gia are Matt’s daughters with wife Luciana, while Alexia is her daughter from a previous relationship. His latest movie Green Zone is now in theaters.
