Julianne Moore: Why My Career Doesn’t Connect With My Kids

While many of her roles have raised eyebrows, Julianne Moore has some kid-friendly films on her resume as well — but the actress’ body of work has never piqued the interest of Caleb, 12, and Liv Helen, 7 ½, her children with husband Bart Freundlich.
“Our parents are our parents,” she explains to Black Book magazine, “so that’s my connection to my children.”
“My kids have some knowledge about my work, but they’ve never seen any of my movies, not even Jurassic Park. It’s not like I say, ‘Gather around, everyone! It’s time to watch one of Mommy’s movies!’”
Adding that she doesn’t enjoy talk shows, Moore, 49, says that the glimpse of her life offered by those appearances is small.
“If I were being honest, I’d say, well, nothing [is going on],” she jokes. “I picked up my kids from school, then we went to the orthopedist and the dentist.”
That said, her celebrity status often means a paparazzi presence during the daily school run and while Moore says it’s “not often … a real intrusion,” it’s still “a pain” that needs to be dealt with.
“[Liv] fell down and I had to pick her up. I was holding her, and all the while this guy kept taking pictures. That’s when I said, ‘Come on, that’s enough!’”
