Helena Bonham Carter & Tim Burton Pick Up Toys for Their Tots

Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton treated their children — daughter Nell, 2, and son Billy Ray, 6 — to some new toys at Happy Returns in London on Monday.

Pairing up on screen again for Alice in Wonderland — Tim directs and produces, while Helena plays the Red Queen — the actress, 43, is planning her outfit for the premiere of the film.

Surprised to receive a compliment from New York in regards to her eccentric style, Helena laughed,

“That’s so refreshing from a journalist, because I’m in the stocks perpetually here: ‘What is she wearing now?’ ‘How dare she?’ Like, criminal acts. Now I feel like I have a reputation to keep. I have a responsibility now to dress badly, so it’s kind of liberating.”

Alice in Wonderland hits theaters Friday.

Brilliant! I love how they’re individuals and they make no apologies for it. At a time where Shiloh Jolie-Pitt can’t wear jeans and sneakers without criticism and snark, it’s a really refreshing attitude to see. And their kids are A .Dorable! Nell’s gotten so big and Billy’s like a little man now!

Don’t care for their style at all..almost like they are trying too hard to be different. BUT it doesn’t take away from the fact that their kids are super cute! And I can’t believe that Nell is two already, I kept looking for the baby in the pics and realized she IS the baby! Seems like a few short months ago we found out she was born….time flies and they grow so fast!!!

Are you serious? Everything that child has on looks expensive. The coat (mock vintage), the dress, tights, shoes (Uggs), and pantalettes! Maybe you don’t like that ways it’s styled, and that’s a difference of opinion, but it’s looks like that little 2 year old is wearing about $300 worth of clothes. Maybe CB can track down where all the clothes are from?

I LOVE this couple….they just epitomize funky, sassy and cool. I love that they dont care what people think about their style and make no apologizes for it and they shouldn’t.

Just because one is a celebrity it does not mean they have to dress up in uber sleek and expensive clothes, they can wear whatever feels comfortable and just be themselves.

It’s funny because I can totally get where she is coming from. She is damned if she does and damned if she doesn’t.

Their kids are absolutely adorable and cute as heck!!!!

I can only imagine what fun it must be to have a dad like Tim Burton w/ such an amazing creative mind their house must be filled w/ stories and lots of playtime…perfect for growing up and developing little minds

They all look like they went through the grab bag at the thrift store and just threw it all on. yes i know those clothes were probably expensive but they do not look it. also this family seems chaotic to me and i don’t think i would want to be adopted by them! i need a little more “normal” than they seem capable of. sometimes people who are constantly in “odd” movies lose contact with the real world and spend more time pretending. that is how these 2 always come across to me.

Sarah, I disagree.For me Helena and Tims family remind me of the Weasley family from Harry Potter. They seem like people who are gracious and kind,funny and smart.Sure, they may march to the beat of their own drum, but that is the attraction to them.

And seriously, I cant believe grown people are criticizing the way a CHILD is dressed.

Thank you, Rach! I was thinking the exact same thing! What’s wrong with being eccentric? There are so many different views of normality, so what is normal? Heck, normality is really more of an idea, varying with those who have it. Who are we to be judging this lovely family for not sucumbing to a common version of it? They do seem alot like the Weasleys: kind and eccentric. And little Nell looks adorable, there is no way Nell looks like a beggar. I don’t see how they are trying to look different, perhaps that’s just their style.

Oh Carly !! Thank you ! I was racking my brain trying to remember the word I was looking for.Eccentric !! Im glad you feel that way too ! Im telling you, if I were a kid, id rather be with fun off beat parents like them, as opposed to being with stodgy von- trapp- pre maria- esque family.And the weasleys..dont you feel right at home when you see their old house and its quirk and them and their homemade knits.:)
