Lisa Edelstein Calls Single Working Moms 'Unsung Heroines'

Paul Redmond/Getty

In a new interview with PARADE, Lisa Edelstein says that portraying a single working mom on House is a badge of honor. “I feel they’re unsung heroines,” the actress, 43, opines.

It’s also uncharted territory for Lisa, who is not yet a mom herself. She muses,

“I don’t think that anyone can prepare for raising a child. I think it’s one of those jobs that is far more overwhelming than you could ever expect and far more satisfying than you can ever expect.”

Citing her age, Lisa says that she has no desire to be a single mom and would instead prefer to “make it a two-person job.” She is quick to clarify, however, that she has “come to terms with not being a mother at all.” Lisa adds,

“I’m actually really good with either direction that my life can take as being a valid experience.”

House airs Monday’s at 8 p.m. on FOX.

Jill Scott Reveals Her Motherhood Moment of Truth

Scott Gries/Getty

The first few months of motherhood for Jill Scott were anything but the divine experience she had imagined. In fact, the actress joked during a tongue-in-cheek appearance on Chelsea Lately, she often contemplated returning her then-newborn son Jett Hamilton!

“I’m going to keep it real gully with you, the first two months I wanted to give him back,” she confesses.

Opening up about her struggles as a first-time mom, Jill is determined to let new mothers know they are not alone in their feelings of desperation.

“I expected someone to come and save me because after you have the baby, nobody cares about you anymore,” she recalls. “Nobody cares if you sleep, nobody cares if you eat. It’s just you and this all-consuming thingy!” Noting that a new baby demands “all of your time and all of your attention,” Jill reveals that the initial period of adjustment “hurts.”

However, it wasn’t long before Jill saw the light at the end of the tunnel and everything fell into place.

“One day, when I was standing by the door and I was considering throwing him out into the pool — sleep deprivation is ugly — at that very moment I looked and said, ‘Ah! I love you!’ And that’s what did it.”

Despite the rough start, Jill is loving life with her “gentle” baby boy, now 9 months, whom she has dubbed “Casanova Tender Lover” because of his sweet disposition.

“It’s a lot of work, a lot of work,” she says of motherhood. “I’m sure other people have had children before, but not like [my baby].”

Jett is Jill’s son with ex-fiancé Lil John Roberts.

Keri Russell Regrets Being a Mom 'Martyr'

Pacific Coast News

While still pregnant Keri Russell vowed to be a hands-on mom, but even she admits things might have been taken a bit too far!

During a recent visit to The Rachael Ray Show, the Extraordinary Measures star was asked the single best piece of advice she’s received since welcoming son River, 2 ½.

Noting that for the first year of her baby boy’s life, he was never left in the care of a babysitter — “I just thought I had to do everything,” Keri explains — there is apparently such a thing as too much time with mom!

“My girlfriend … who is a working mom and very successful, emailed me,” she recalled. “She said, ‘Do not be a martyr; It’s not helping anyone.’” Keri adds,

“Taking that hour, and going for a walk or getting a massage or hanging out with your girlfriends, whatever that is … It makes you better for everyone. For some reason, it was hard for me to get that in my head.”

As for River, Keri says that he is “so funny and sweet” the terrible twos have thus far been kept at bay. “I’m starting to think it’s actually the terrible threes,” she confesses. “Two is still so cozy and nice, but maybe it’s because he doesn’t talk that much.”

“He’s still sort of caveman-ish in his language so it’s less of a problem!”

River is Keri’s son with husband Shane Deary.
