Jennifer Lopez: It Takes An 'Amazing Person' To Be a Single Mom

Kevin Mazur/AMA2009/WireImage

In her upcoming film The Back-up Plan, Jennifer Lopez plays an expectant mom who falls in love with a man she meets on the way home from being artificially inseminated.

While the timing of her character’s introduction to Mr. Right might be unique, Jennifer says that she knows several women — friends and coworkers — who have become mothers via insemination.

“I just don’t know if I could do this, honestly,” the 40-year-old singer/actress reveals to USA Today. “Now I know how much I rely on my partner [husband Marc Anthony] … Knowing what single moms go through, I think it takes such an amazing person to do that.” She adds,

“You get to a point in your life and you think about it, and I think it’s a beautiful thing to be able to find the strength to do that on your own. That child will enrich your life. It’s a beautiful thing to think that option is there.”

Speaking of good timing, Jennifer says that the role came around at the perfect time. “I’d had the babies, so I was waiting for the right thing and I knew I wanted to do a romantic comedy,” she explains. “I felt like when I read the script, it was at the right place for me.”

Citing her pregnancy with fraternal twins Emme Maribel and Maximilian David, turning 2 next week, Jennifer adds,

“I had so much experience to bring to the role. It was the kind of romantic comedy that didn’t feel typical, and the script was so funny.”

The Back-up Plan hits theaters April 23.

Taye Diggs Happy to Take On Diaper Duty

AP/Courtesy of Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs

New dad Taye Diggs could use some serious shut-eye! Stopping by Good Morning America recently, the Private Practice star was noticeably quiet, but attributed it to his hectic schedule.

“It’s early, it’s very early,” he said with a laugh. “I’m just trying to get through [and then] I’ll be back [in Los Angeles] tonight to see the little man.”

The little man in question is Taye and wife Idina Menzel‘s 5-month-old son Walker Nathaniel, and the proud papa was more than willing to dish on baby boy’s latest milestones.

“He’s almost standing, he’s laughing a lot when I come in to get him in the morning to change his diaper, he’s smiling, he’s brilliant,” Taye raves, before adding, “I can’t stop talking about him!”

Exhaustion aside, Taye is “loving” first-time fatherhood. So much so, in fact, that the actor has no qualms about changing diapers, despite openly admitting that Walker “tears it up” on the changing table.

“It is love, let me tell you, his diapers are no joke. But even then I’m such a proud father I’m like, ‘Good for you! Good for you little man!’”

Enjoying his continued success — both in his career and his personal life — the Private Practice star is the first to point out that he will be forever grateful. “I’m blessed,” he notes. “It’s so cliché to say, but life is good.”

Céline Dion Is An ‘Open Book’ With Fertility Struggle

KCSPresse/Splash News Online

Speaking out about her struggle to conceive a second child came naturally to line Dion. “I’ve always been an open book,” she noted recently to Good Morning America.

Vowing to take “one step at a time” the 41-year-old songstress stays positive by focusing on the good and remembering that she’s not alone.

“It’s something very beautiful when you want to conceive and when you want to be parents again, when you want to be blessed again,” she notes. “And for me to share this is about also bonding with other women that are going through the same thing.”

Calling pregnancy “priceless,” Céline says that she and husband René Angélil are undeterred by the setbacks they’ve experienced.

“You know what? We had a miscarriage. We tried three more times. It did not work … We are trying again for the fifth try. It’s aboard right now. All aboard.”

Noting that their son René-Charles, 9, was conceived with the help of a fertility specialist — after six years of trying — Céline says she “can’t thank [the doctor] enough, to have this beautiful child.”

Making René-Charles a big brother has provided motivation for the couple, who married in 1994. She adds,

“It would be extraordinary to try and make this love of the family grow more. But I have — I have — to try.”

Julia Louis-Dreyfus: Why I Had to Let Go of Guilt

Courtesy Redbook

Growing up as one of four sisters while attending an all-girls school, Julia Louis-Dreyfus always envisioned her future family with daughters. So the actress was more than a bit surprised when life gave her two boys!

“I just assumed I’d have girls,” she reveals in the March issue of Redbook. “It didn’t even occur to me that I might have a boy, let alone two.”

Now the mother of Henry, 17, and Charles, 12, Julia is attempting to strike a balance between her family and her career, from her successful run on Seinfeld to her current role on The New Adventures of Old Christine. Although she has been managing the two for years, she is quick to point out that the juggling act never gets easier.

“When I was doing Seinfeld and my oldest son was a babe, I had a nursery set up at work,” she recalls. “I would nurse him, then run out onto the set, and I always felt like, ‘Who am I, here?’”

In order to take full advantage of her time — and brain! — the actress is careful to not let feelings of guilt as a working mother slip into her day. “Guilt is a bitch,” she confesses.

“It’s so useless as an emotion, for me anyway. It clouds things. I’m not saying people shouldn’t feel guilty, but for me, it makes certain decision-making more difficult.”

That isn’t to say she is completely void of all sense of the word, however, noting that the tugs at her heartstrings are the reason she has, for the most part, steered clear of feature films.

“Network television is a full-time job, but it’s manageable,” Julia explains, adding that her kids also benefit from her decision to work. “It’s good for my kids to see me have artistic desires, work hard, and have success.”
