Nancy O’Dell Hopes to Set An Example For Ashby

Ben Dome/Pacific Coast News

When Nancy O’Dell headed back to her co-hosting responsibilities on Access Hollywood after a three-month maternity leave, she did so with her daughter Ashby Grace in mind. “I’ve always wanted Ashby to have an example of a working mom,” she tells Working Mother.

And Nancy did just that, often bringing along baby girl for the ride. In fact, she notes, the mother-daughter duo have never been separated for more than three days — turning Ashby into quite the worldly traveler! “She starts taking off her shoes and putting [them in] the bin to place on the security belt,” Nancy laughs.

Last year, when she approached her husband Keith Zubchevich about taking her career in a new direction, she was told to follow her heart. With her family in mind, she realized it was time to search for greener pastures.

“[He said,] ‘You need to live in the moment — regardless of whatever decision you make,’” she recalls. “Otherwise you’re not enjoying anything you do and you’re always worrying about what you didn’t do.’”

Publicly announcing her exit from Access Hollywood in December after a 13-year run with the show, Nancy calls the move the “toughest decision” she has had to make. “I had been at the show since day one and it was time to graduate,” she explains.

As she considers future endeavors in TV and entertainment journalism — and manages her new outdoor furniture line, appropriately titled Red Carpet by Nancy O’Dell — the hands-on mom is soaking up time with her “hilarious” 2 ½-year-old as she relives her childhood vicariously through Ashby.

“Everything is fun again — the Disney princess movies and all,” she notes.

Pediped Launches New and Improved Styles for Spring

Courtesy of Pediped

Snow may be still on the ground, but seeing Pediped‘s fun spring and summer collections reminded us that sandal season is right around the corner. With over 60 new styles, the children’s shoe company — which counts Jenna Elfman and Milla Jovovich as fans — doesn’t disappoint, especially when it comes to new innovations.

We’re happy to see they’ve added memory foam technology (MFT) to the line. Now, the soles mold to your little one’s feet for a more snug fit. They’ve also introduced a few machine washable styles that feature odor blocking agents to keep mini toes fresh.

Boys will love the sporty, velcro-strap Adrian ($48, in navy/orange or chocolate brown/tan), and so will you. After a long day, just throw them in the wash and they’ll look as good as new. We also love the gladiator-inspired Phoebe ($52, in gold, pink and white) — they’re comfy and stylish!

Check out all the newest arrivals here.

Jessica Alba Gains Perspective Through Parenthood

Courtesy Cosmopolitan UK

When rumors surfaced of possible infidelity by Cash Warren, wife Jessica Alba says she wasn’t flustered. Since the couple welcomed daughter Honor Marie, 20 months, the actress tells Cosmopolitan UK she’s never been more secure with herself and her relationship.

“When people wrote lies about me before I had Honor, I’d get upset or I’d get nauseous or I’d get angry or I’d want revenge,” she reveals in the interview. “Now, it’s like, it’s just so ridiculous and it’s not even close to being the truth.”

“I know who I am, and I know that I love my family and I love my kid and that being a good mom is my #1 priority.”

At the same time, her daughter has even changed the way Jessica, 28, views herself.

“I used to harp on about my insufficiencies but after I had Honor I forgave myself for not being perfect,” she explains before adding,

“I stopped trying to be a crowd pleaser and accepted my flaws and then, in turn, you accept everyone else’s. Having a kid puts everything in perspective.”

Allen Iverson Opens Up About Daughter's Mystery Illness

Christopher Sadowski/Splash News Online

Last weekend Allen Iverson was scheduled to start in his 11th NBA All Star game, but the Philadelphia 76er was notably absent from the festivities. Instead, Allen was at home in Atlanta, tending to his seriously ill daughter Messiah, 4.

“I have five kids,” Allen, 34, pointed out after practice in Philadelphia on Monday. “None of them have ever been this sick. It’s a first-time thing for me.”

Adding to his anxiety is the fact that doctors aren’t totally sure about what ails Messiah. She has been in and out of a hospital in Atlanta and will now travel to Philadelphia to undergo treatment at Children’s Hospital.

“If they find out its pneumonia, which they hope it’s not, they’re going to have to admit her again,” Allen reveals. “All I do is just pray on it … ’cause that’s all that can be done right now, ’cause they don’t know exactly what’s wrong with her.”

“I like to look at myself as a strong person, especially dealing with everything in my life. But this is a totally different situation; you find out you’re not as tough as you thought you were when it’s one of your kids.”

Doctors have assured Allen that they’ll “get to the bottom of” Messiah’s symptoms, assurances that have given the point guard peace of mind — to a point. “You look at them eye to eye and you can tell they truly believe that,” he says. “You kind of feel comfortable about it.”

Courtesy of HotMilk

Looking sexy during and after pregnancy just got easier thanks to HOTmilk.

With frilly details and flirty shapes, the New Zealand based company’s collection of  nursing bras, panties, nighties and pajamas are far from basic.

We love the Her Desire ($59) style, which comes with a matching pair of knickers ($27).

The chic black maternity/nursing nightie ($80) is also a mom-to-be must-have. Made with a little bit of stretch, it has a comfy fit.

Go ahead! Add some come-hither styles to your maternity wardrobe. Sporting a bump doesn’t mean you don’t still have it going on.

Check out the full collection here or search for stores in your area.

Emily Mortimer On Her Raw Food Regret

Scott Kirkland/INF

Five weeks into new motherhood, Emily Mortimer reports that her latest addition — daughter May Rose — is blossoming into a great baby. “She’s just so bloody sweet I can’t get over it,” the actress tells Vanity Fair.

Although her baby girl spends most of her time eating and sleeping, Emily is quick to point out it hasn’t all been smooth sailing. After initially discovering she was pregnant, the actress — who was in Japan at the time — was invited out for a bit of traditional cuisine.

“I was trying so hard to be charming and have them think I was cool, and they were all so impressed by me because I ate some sort of weird Japanese spinach to begin with,” she recalls. When her dinner dates’ cheering grew louder, Emily quickly got caught up in the moment and downed the sushi that was being handed to her.

“I thought, ‘Okay, my doctor told me I can have sushi if it’s very fresh, so I’ll just have one bite,’” she rationalized.

Much to the expectant mama’s dismay, what she ate was, in fact, a true “delicacy” — pieces of uncooked chicken dipped in raw egg. Emily’s reaction, however, is what continues to haunt her! “The weirdest thing — this is something so weird about me, I probably need to go to some therapist to work it out — instead of stopping there, I kept eating it,” she admits.

“I was absolutely appalled, but they were so proud of me for eating it, and I was so wanting to please, so even though I was pregnant and I was so desperate for this baby, I kept eating a piece of raw chicken.”

After realizing the possible effect on her unborn baby, Emily’s sense of accomplishment turned to regret. “I got home and I cried on the phone to [my husband] Alessandro [Nivola], ‘I’ve killed our baby! I’ve just eaten raw chicken!’” she says.

In retrospect, according to Emily, her slip-up has worked wonders on May! “She’s thriving,” the actress laughs. “It was very good for her, obviously!”
