Belle Pictures/Ramey

Head and shoulders above the rest!

Francesca Nora Bateman, 3, holds on tight to dad Jason Bateman — he’s got her ankles! — while out and about at The Lumberyard in Malibu, Calif. on Saturday.

Frannie is the only child for the Arrested Development star, 41, and wife Amanda Anka.

Every time I see little Frannie I just want to give her a big hug. She’s so cute.

- Luna on

That is ADORABLE!!! It is going to be a sad day when she gets to big to ride on papa’s shoulders!

- Renee on

I think she is absolutely the most beautiful little girl! And such a daddy’s girl! This pic just melts my heart!

- Kelsey on

I love seeing the two of them together.

- Shirese on

They are so cute together! And I seriously do want to clone her so I can have one of her for myself. :)

- FC on

this has been puzzling me for a while, she is clearly a cute little girl, pretty and all that, but every time we see her she seems to get more comments on how pretty and in most cases “stunning/beautiful/gorgeous” than any of the other little girls around here. i really hope this doesn’t come out the wrong way, but i just don’t get why. now i’m not being horrible because she IS pretty, in no way is this child unattractive, she is an elegant little lady and she is attractive, but i just wonder why the comments are always so disproportionate compared to all the other little girls here when i honestly don’t think she looks any more pretty than any other them. in fact some of them i personally find prettier…
i was just wondering, i really hope this post doesn’t come across the wrong way, i am not putting this little girl down in anyway, and would obviously never say anything if i thought she would read it, but she won’t…

- JM on

JM- I agree that she isnt an exceptionally pretty child but i think that it is more to do with how happy and radiant she always looks. She seems a very contented child and that just makes her so much more beautiful.

- Dani on

dani i think you’re spot on. For me, its not that she’s ‘above the rest’ if you like, but that she looks happy and loving life as only a child can do!

- steph on

JM – don’t worry, I understand what you mean.

I personally don’t mean or say that celeb kids are prettier or better than non-normal celebrity kids. At teh end of the day, all of these kidsa re just children – they haven’t done anything to get the attention they deserve and should only be judged as a children. When I say they’re cute, I mean it in teh same way as when I see a cute kid in the street etc

- Nola on

LOL JM… I share your confusion because I feel the same way about Harlow Madden!

- katie on

Well, the difference for me is that most kids are cute because they have chubby cheeks and big eyes etc, but I actually think Francesca has very striking features that sort of make her look like a mini-adult.

- Lucy on

thanks for all the kind responses guys, i was really worried my post would come across in the wrong way.
dani and steph i can see what you are saying about her charm and charisma rather than her looks. i feel that way about violet affleck, she is just such a sunny child. and i agree that with celeb kids there is the same proportion of “beautiful” kids as amongst “normal” kids.
and lucy i see what you’re saying too. although i guess that’s more personal perception, i don’t really see that with her, more with say like halle berry’s daughter, who to me just looks like one of those people who is stunningly beautiful their whole life.
anyway, thanks for sharing your opinions guys.

- JM on

JM- I don’t think you meant it in a bad way but I see the same things said for Shiloh, Zee, Nahla, Suri, Matilda, August, Harlow, and the Rossdale boys etc…I don’t think Frannie gets more people saying that she is cute than the others. Seriously, go look at those posts too and many people are saying the exact same thing about them.

I will say that I do think that Frannie, Zee, Shiloh, August, Harlow, Nahla, and the Harper-Dern kids are the cutest celebrity kids in my opinion because they look so exotic to me. But that is just my opinion.

I think the other kids are cute but those I mentioned above stand out because they look strikingly different.

- shirese on

Awwww Frannie, yay!!! She is hands down my favorite celeb-baby :) I have to say that she just has that classic beauty; she is more than just a cute kid, I think she has just pretty features and such gorgeous hair! Definitely one of the most beautiful little ones out there :)

- Dana on

I think she’s absolutely adorable and Lucy is right, she’s very striking. We all have a different idea of what is cute, whether it be with men, women, or kids! Nothing wrong with that.

- Jessicad on

JM: i don’t think there is a disproportionate amount of positive comments towards frannie. i think there is just not as many negative comments about jason bateman and amanda anka. on other posts, such as the ones for honor warren, the jolie-pitts, the rossdales, etc. (all of whom i think are equally cute) the positive comments get mixed in with criticisms about what the kids are wearing, the comments the parents made (should it be an interview/article with quotes), the name, etc. the lack of critical comments gives the illusion of people liking frannie more, in my opinion…

- noam on

I think it’s sick that any of you feel the need to discuss a child’s looks at all. I wouldn’t want a group of women sitting around judging my children’s look. Geesh. Just not right IMO.

- Riley on

In all fairness Riley, it’s not like they’re critiquing the kids’ bone structure. No one is judging individual features or even being negative. It may not be right, but people discuss the cuteness of kids all the time, regardless of who their parents are.

- Sadie on

Frannie is one of my favorite celeb kids, along with Archie Arnett. I love any offspring of Arrested Development stars by default, lol.

- Sadie on

I think noam hit the nail on the head. There is just no criticism in this post concerning her not wearing a coat, or boys clothes or whatever!

And i think its nice that we can have a discussion about why someone is cute with out childish name calling…until riley. Oh well theres always 1.

Im still sad i can no longer ride on my dad’s shoulders. =D

- millie on

i can see what you guys are saying, and yes i suppose it is a personal thing. i don’t think frannie is “stunngingly beautiful” as others have said, but obviously that’s just down to opinion, to me she just looks like a normal kid.
and it is definitely true that some celeb parents get an easier ride here than others, i’m not sure why. i think the more famous parents tend to get criticised more, though i don’t know why that is, but the jolie-pitts, the cruise-kidman-holmes, stefani-rossdales etc seem to get more negative comments.

anyway, i don’t think there is anything wrong with discussing what a child looks like if, like here, no one has actually said anything bad about the child, not to mention the fact that she will never read this.

- JM on

She is such a gorgeous child. She looks just like Jason! I’m glad she doesn’t look like her Mom..she would be pretty no matter what with the combination of both their gene pools, but I do not think her Mom is pretty at all. Of course, I don’t think Paul Anka is attractive either and she looks like him so that’s probably why.

- Jennifer on

Hot dad! I didn’t even look at the baby!

- lipsy on

@ Sadie – Tony Hale’s daughter is darling, too. (He was Buster on AD)

- Christina on

I think she looks more like her mom here than usual!! Such a cutie!

- mmh on

I totally get what people are saying about wondering what all the fuss is. There are just some celebrity babies that I think are beautiful because they don’t look cute in a baby way, but just stunning in an almost adult way. That’s how I feel about little Francesca Nora.

- Luna on

I think she’s adorable, and I do think she is a very pretty little girl but I can see what JM and others are saying.

When I see pictures of Brooke Burke’s son Shaya, everyone says he is adorable, but I don’t see it. The same with Christina Aguliera’s son and Adam Sandler’s kids. All of those kids are often loaded with comments like this, and I don’t think they’re cuter than any other kids. I think Francesca is one of the cuter celebrity babies, but of course that’s my opinion.

- Erika on

JM, you expressed the exact sentiments that have been on my mind for months. Yes the criticism of the parents isn’t there, yes other kids get similar comments too, but I’ve never seen a child on this site have their look idolized the way Francesca’s are. She constantly gets comment after comment about being “breathtaking,” “one of the most beautiful children people have ever seen,” “looking like a porcelain doll,” etc. And cute as she is, it’s clear people are seeing something I’m not. Just like with regular kids, some celeb babies are beautiful, some less so. I’ve just never understood how people absolutely fall over themselves looking at pictures of this child in comparison to others.

- Lauren on

Francesca has lovely hair and full lips. She has an old-fashioned look about her and I can visualise her in a smocked dress with puffed sleeves and a big bow in her hair.

- Kresta on

yeah lauren, you got exactly what i was trying to say. i guess it probably does come down to just different opinions, but i really do not see what other people are seeing. she’s cute, but she is not what i would describe as beautiful, stunning, gorgeous etc. i don’t mean that in a horrible way, but like i said, someone like Nahla Aubrey to me is beautiful. i’m glad i’m not the only one who doesn’t see it :) i was beginning to think i was missing something. but it’s nice that we can all respect each other’s opinions, that’s all it is afterall.

- JM on

“Millie”…I’m proud to be “the one” in this matter. There is nothing wrong with saying kids are cute. But when people begin comparing them to other kids because of their looks it’s just mean. I think several of the babies posted on here are not cute, but do I say it? No. Because I am a mother and would never want to hurt another mother’s feelings. I guess I just live by the old “if you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say it at all.” You’re probably not a mother so you can’t understand this. And if you are a mother, I would be happy to critique your kid’s looks for you if you would like to post a picture. ;)

- Riley on

And what name calling??? I didn’t call anyone a name.
