The story about that obese woman having a child is just so sad. How on earth can she care for that child, when she can’t even take care of herself (or walk for that matter)! I always wondered how people let themselves get to THAT size….

Erika – I had the same thoughts. It’s sad for the child to have a mother in such a state. I know it said that she has a thyroid problem, but still…

On another note, the VBAC story is good news! There are so many women who had to get c-sections with their first child, and didn’t want to. It’s good to know that those women will (hopefully) have a better chance of getting a vaginal birth in the future, if they want and are able to.

I’m surprised she was able to get pregnant. Being that overweight must not be good for fertility.

I really disagree with the list of what every family should have in their fridge. I understand it’s taken from a weight loss program – that alone make it not ideal for kids. But everything is fat-free and low-fat. Lots of foods have naturally some fat in it and in low fat things they usually just put additives/chemicals to replace it (because a real low-fat yoghurt cannot be creamy).
Why always buy low-fat, especially for children? Eating normal food in a healthy way is not bad for you.

I agree with Alice. Children need fats for brain development. I have a slim toddler so I have a jug of organic whole milk and then 2% for the rest of us. I almost always buy regular cheese and I find it’s become increasingly difficult to find yogurt with a normal amount of fat in it!

I literally cried reading the new report on VBACs. I was absolutely traumatized by my first C-section. My subsequant pregnancy resulted in a second C-Section, as my doctor was not comfortable with VBACs. I hope this turns the tide.
