Jamie Foxx: Corinne's Criticism 'Keeps Me Honest'

He has a mantel filled with awards and accolades, but there’s at least one person Jamie Foxx has yet to impress: His 15-year-old daughter, Corinne.
Despite being only the fourth person to ever win an Academy Award and have a number one record in the U.S., “my daughter always thinks everything I do is old,” Jamie admitted during a recent appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman.
“I played some song [on the piano] where I was into it. It was all sappy and love and ‘come back to me’ and ‘hold my hand’ and all that. I said, ‘Corinne, what did you think?’” Jamie recalls, showing Dave his daughter’s reaction — a thumbs down.
Fortunately, Jamie, 42, takes her criticism in stride. “At least she keeps me honest, she keeps me young,” he laughs. Clearly, despite her disdain of her dad’s music, there are no hard feelings; The teen is a regular on her father’s arm at the awards shows each year. “We have such a good time, we Flip camera everybody,” he reveals.
Their latest father-daughter date? The Grammys, where Jamie admits he became a bit swept up in Corinne’s new star-struck phase.
“She’s now in that ‘Oh my God!’ stage. We’d see Taylor Swift, ‘Oh my God!’ and then we saw Lady Gaga, ‘Oh my God!’ And for some reason, we both started going, ‘Rah-rah-ah-ah-ah’ [like the 'Bad Romance' lyrics].”
That said, when Dave asked if Corinne is the “big shot” at school herself, Jamie is quick to point out that his assumption couldn’t be further from the truth. “The friends that she goes to school with, their parents are much richer and a lot more famous,” he confesses.
Noting that some of the students are accompanied by bodyguards, Jamie — who places himself “a little lower on the totem pole” — jokes,
“They’re like, ‘Yeah, your dad sings? My dad owns the record company.’”
