Picabo Street On Her Decision to Undergo the Essure Procedure

Although she retired from professional skiing in 2002, Picabo Street shows no signs of slowing down. Active in a variety of philanthropic causes, this busy mom-of-three will also be in Vancouver next month, covering the 21st Winter Olympic Games for NBC’s The Today Show.

We recently talked with Picabo, 38, about life with sons Eli, 6 ½, Treyjan James, 5 ½, and Dax Meyer, 5 months, whether she’d like to see the boys pursue sports careers, and why she’s decided to undergo the permanent birth control procedure Essure, which consists of the insertion of small flexible micro-inserts through the body’s natural pathways and into the fallopian tubes, forming a barrier that prevents sperm from reaching the egg.

Jenna Elfman Is Ready to Cross the Pregnancy Finish Line

Ray Tamarra/Getty

Calling herself “reproductively opportunistic” when she discovered her character on Accidentally on Purpose would be pregnant during the first season, Jenna Elfman let husband Bodhi know it was now or never! “Luckily Mother Nature went along with that and helped us out. Everything went pretty smooth,” she shared recently on The Early Show.

And while she may have planned this pregnancy, Jenna was not prepared in the least for all that it has entailed! “I looked five months pregnant when I was three months pregnant,” she admits.

Quick to clarify that carrying a baby is, indeed, a “great thing,” it was the initial rough start and now, the last leg of the journey, that has her hoping the end is near.

“In that first trimester you’re showing a lot, but you don’t look pregnant. And then the last trimester you feel a little bit like a whale. The middle one is kind of fun. Four, five and six months — that was fun.”

That same burgeoning belly, notes Jenna, is often quite the attention-seeker when out and about. “I’m seven months [but] I look much bigger and many people like to say that as I go through places like the airport,” she says. “The guy who’s in charge of baggage was telling me how humongous I was. I said, ‘Awesome! I flew all the way here, thank you, I appreciate that.’”

Despite the not-so-subtle observations, an understanding Jenna isn’t looking to place blame.

“I think they go into baby mode and they don’t realize there’s a whole female package that has an aesthetic awareness.”

As for soon-to-be big brother Story Elias, the proud mama says her 2-year-old is ready for his new role. “He gives my belly kisses and says, ‘Baby,’” she raves. “[He] wants the baby to come out and play trains.”

Jenna is due with her second son in early March.

Hugh Jackman: Ava Is All About the Paparazzi

Jose Perez/Splash News Online

As father to Oscar Maximillian, 9 ½, and Ava Eliot, 4 ½, Hugh Jackman knows all too well what makes each child tick. While his son tends to shy away from the paparazzi, his daughter is all about the glamour shots!

“Oscar’s always like, ‘Oh, the paparazzi, I hate the paparazzi,’” Hugh shared during a recent visit to the The Jay Leno Show. “And my daughter is like, ‘Paparazzi!’ (Strikes a pose) She loves it!”

Hugh wasn’t kidding! When Jay showed a recent picture of Ava perched on her papa’s shoulders, eating an apple and offering a goofy grin to the photographers, the actor couldn’t help but burst out laughing. “Look at that! Hamming it up for the paparazzi. She’s going to regret that on her 21st,” he said.

And if Ava has her way, those priceless shots won’t be ending any time soon.

“I’m like, ‘Let’s go this way.’ And she’s like, ‘But Dad, the paparazzi are this way!’”

Oscar’s feelings toward the unwarranted press were recently made quite obvious when New York City experienced a weekend blizzard. Taking the day to spend time with his son, Hugh and Oscar headed to the park for a snowball fight only to be followed by a group of paparazzi.

“There were about 15 [of them and] there were about eight of us throwing snowballs,” he chuckles.

“And [Oscar] said, ‘Dad, I’d just give anything to throw a snowball at the paparazzi,’ and I said, ‘Well, why don’t you do it son.’ I’m a good father, lessons all the way!”

The land of the Outback is not particularly known for its snowy seasons, so celebrating each winter in the city with his family is something the Aussie native doesn’t take for granted. “I never saw snow growing up,” he admits. “Christmas, it’s summer for us, it’s like 100 degrees! I’m like a little kid, I just stand in the window looking out at the snow.”

Oscar and Ava are Hugh’s children with wife Deborra-Lee Furness.
