Pete and Bronx Wentz Bundle Up

Humberto Carreno/Startraks

Fighting off the Big Apple’s chilly temperatures, Pete Wentz and son Bronx Mowgli bundled up against the cold while strolling around Union Square in Manhattan on Wednesday.

The winter weather stayed in the city overnight, as New Yorkers woke up to snow flurries Thursday morning!

Bronx, 14 months, is the first child for the Fall Out Boy bassist and wife Ashlee Simpson-Wentz.

Aww poor Bx, i really feel bad for him… he alwayas looks uncomfortable on that thing!

- Mariel on

um, how does he look uncomfortable?

- hmmm on

Geez. And I thought it was cold in San Francisco.

- {JeLisa} on

I don’t think he looks uncomfortable at all…I was actually thinking how lucky he was. I wish they had something like that when my kids were babies. He’s got a window and everything! :)

- mandii on

Is he able to breathe through that thing? Lol. I’ve never seen something quite like that.

- Mandy on

Wow at that contraption.
I hope they don’t become the norm regarding baby carriers ;-)

- Sylvia on

Hey look, it’s the ‘boy in the bubble!’ I have never seen one of those on a carrier-just on a stroller…however, I live in the PacNW and the temps here are pretty mild!

- cris on

Aww how cute! THey look ready to brave whatever they encounter :)

- All Women Stalker on

doesn’t look very conducive to breathing, i hope there are lots of air holes somewhere on that odd contraption!

- kmb on

Cute little Bronx in his little astronaut suit!

- kelsey on

A large chunk of my family is from Minnesota & I have seen a number of backpack carriers with covers like this during the coldest of the winter months. Many of the men in my family have carried their children on their backs like this & all of my little cousins have seemed to enjoy it. And as long as it’s secure tightly, they’re just as safe in it as any other carrier.

- Daniella on

Really people?? You think he will put the kid in there and suffocate him, without giving him any breathing air holes??

- Liz on

Just because it’s not a sling or an Ergo carrier doesn’t mean it’s bad.

Pete has a secure hold on him just like he does everytime he’s photographed wearing the backpack. I doubt he’d be wearing it if it was uncomfortable for him or Bronx.

As for the cover, it looks no different than a stroller cover that protects children from the elements.

- Ashleigh on

i don’t get all the people saying they’ve “never seen anything like that” – my parents had a backpack carrier in the 70′s! they’ve been around a long time; my parents used to hike with us in them. i know it’s super trendy to front carry in a sling etc these days (unless its in a baby bjorn – god forbid lol) but that doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with “back carrying” … i think it looks awesome!

- amandamay on

amandamay…the comment is about the plastic cover not the backpack carrier!

- cris on

a woman stopped us in the street and told me to take the raincover off the stroller because ‘babies need to breathe, and this is for the rain.’ indeed, it wasn’t raining, but the wind can be quite cold. i LOVE the back carrier with rain/wind shield, it looks comfortable for both pete and bronx. i have a soft structured carrier, and the new england winters definitely have kept me from trying the back carry. even the front carry is tricky unless you buy a babywearing coat/vest or put the little one in a bulky snowsuit. i like this alternative a lot!

- e on

Pete and Ash are very hands on and he is making sure that their son is getting out everyday and I believe Pete and Bronx are so bonded. Bronx is getting so much of his Dads time, hearing his Dad voice doing the little things in life that are so taken for granted. Pete is not a big guy, this way he safely has Bronx at all times. He will have lots of simple life photos of moments that shows him being a caring hands on Dad. It is really cute and Bronx is protected from the wind while they are walking.

- mari on

@e, I would be horrified if some stranger in the street stopped me and told me what to do with my child. I hope you told her to mind her own business and trusted your own instincts.

I think the shield looks great. Bronx is porpped up to adult view and it must be so interesting for him to watch everyone from that level.

- Catey on

I LOVE that Pete uses the backpack carrier. Bx will get a real view of everything in the city, instead of sitting in a stroller looking at butts and feet.

- Colleen on

This pic makes me smile. I found the temp quite mild yesterday and I live 10 miles from Manhattan. Hey, whatever works.

- sarahshawn on

Is Bronx in a hazmat suit or something?! I’m not trying to be funny when I say this but I seriously never saw a backpack carrier like that. It’s like…cool.

- Mina on

That is so cool, he is protected from Head to toe…….wow

- True on

I wish someone would carry me around in something like that. It is so cold and windy here in Michigan. OMG. The baby does not look like he is suffocating and i’ve ridden on the back of motorcycles with a full facial helmet and could breathe perfectly fine, so Bronx is probably perfectly relaxed as well.

- stedine on

There are some really, sorry, stupid comments on here…

I think that carrier looks really cozy on a cold winter day. He’s warm and bundled up and he can see what’s going on around him. I like how Pete carries his son around with him. I’m sure he’s showing him the world around him in a nice way. :-)

- Hea on

I think it looks great for Bronx! Maybe a little uncomfortable for Pete though, so more power to him. What a good Daddy :)

How cold was it there? It was down to -22c where I live a few weeks ago, brrrrrrrr!!

- Ruthella on

People on here make me laugh. Last time it was that he wasnt covered up enough and now its because he is covered too much! They cant win. Please get over yourselves. I’m very sure Bronx is very cosy and happy where he is.

- Laydacris on

Come on, people, this is just a fancy version of what some of our parents did to us when we were growing up before shoving us outside in the cold. Several layers of clothes followed by a scarf wrapped around your face several times. (THink: Christmas Story!) I remember telling my mother in a panicked voice, “I can’t breath!!!!”. Her inevitable response? You’ll be able to breath when you get outside!!!

- Renee on

Hea, How are these comments stupid, I have never seen something like this, I live in Florida and it just doesn’t get that cold, at first glance it does look very heavy, uncomfortable and stuffy for the child in it..so pardon me for being stupid.

- jessjess on

It’s cccccooooooooolllllllddddd today! That get-up is quite suitable and why would Wentz put his little one in a bubble he couldn’t breathe in? It’s just not logical.

- nettrice on

I barely even noticed Bronx in this photo. I cannot imagine my husband/father in that get up. Drama.

- celebsarah on

I think Bronx’s parents have the right to decide if the carrier is good or not for heaven’s sake! Bronx isn’t crying, and I live just outside NY – it was cold Wednesday. When Suri Cruise didn’t wear a coat while her and her family lived her, everyone criticized her parents . . . and now, Pete and Ashlee get criticized for bundling their child up. You can’t have it both ways. For all of you who criticize, I think you should live under a microscope with the paparazzi following you and your child(ren) for a few weeks. Geesh!

- Karey on

I mean obviously he’s able to breathe because that thing would never have been marketed if it was dangerous but still. I just don’t see how it can allow air in if that’s what its supposed to be keeping out?

Anyone get where I’m going at with this?

- Mandy on

jessjess – People seem to actually think he’ll suffocate.

- Hea on

We own this. My daughter enjoyed this very much when she was little. We were able to go on long walks in areas that are not meant for strollers. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this backpack. It also has pockets to put things in it. It also becomes a chair for the child to sit in. It was very convenient for our family.

- Jessica on

I should also add that the plastic cover does not zip it completely closed.
