Since its debut, Beyoncé‘s “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” video has spawned hundreds of imitators as well as a memorable awards show gaffe. And now there’s a super cute moms version that is quickly becoming its own cultural phenomenon, already garnering 107,000 views on Youtube.
Directed by mom of two and artist Leigh Pennebaker, the video was created for Adventures in Babywearing‘s annual Triathlon challenge where seven participants document their lives as babywearing mamas in words, photographs and video to win a luxe, eco sling from Sakura Bloom.
“I am a huge Beyoncé fan,” says Leigh. “And one day I was wearing my baby in a sling while humming the infectious hook to ["Single Ladies"], when suddenly the lyrics ‘if you love ‘em then you should put a sling on ‘em!’ popped in my brain. I then realized that a babywearing-themed spoof would be so fun to create and could even be a strong contender in the competition.”
With the help of her husband and friends, Leigh recorded the track, choreographed the moves and shot the video — check out behind the scenes footage here — in less than two days. After submitting it on Dec. 6, the video went viral and within 24 hours they had 10,000 views.
“The whole experience was great fun,” she says. “Best of all, my irreverent homage to wearing one’s baby in a sling has reached people who may not have been familiar with the art of babywearing — which is an amazing and practical parenting tool.”
Wondering if Leigh won the contest? She tied for first place.
