Willie Garson Jokes About His Bounce Back After Adoption

Jen Lowery/Startraks

It’s a miracle that Willie Garson‘s just become a father, the Sex and the City actor joked during a recent appearance on the Today show.

“I’m a new dad which sounds weird because he’s 8 and I’m not even showing anymore!”

This year marked plenty of firsts for the father-son pair. With Nathen joining Willie’s home last February, the duo celebrated the holiday season together and then rang in the New Year.

Although the addition of his son has come with immense responsibility, Willie raves that he reaps the benefits — and life lessons! — of his decision to adopt each and every day.

“I don’t know if you’ve ever met any actors, but they can be rather narcissistic. It’s a cliché, but it’s true, your life is about something else,” he admits.

“Everyone always says ‘Oh, you’re wonderful for doing it.’ I’m the winner in this situation, definitely, much more than him.”

OMG, I love Willie Garson- he is great in SATC and great in Fever Pitch (“remember your mom’s hysterectomy?!?!? I put her out for free!!”).

I am so happy for him, and anyone, who gets to realize their dream of becoming a parent. That dream should be denied to no one.

I remember this story now – I found it absolutely fascinating how Willie found his son.

By every word and description, it is apparent that Nathan has found a wonderful parent in Willie. I wish them both the very very best – now and much happiness in the future. :D

“Everyone always says ‘Oh, you’re wonderful for doing it.’ I’m the winner in this situation, definitely, much more than him.”

I’m so glad he said that. I hear people all the time, including on this site, going on and on about how wonderful it is that someone adopted, etc. But when people adopt they do it because they want to parent a child, not because they want to do “charity” work. And that’s how it should be.

Finally!Someone says it like it is.We adoptive parents are the joyous, blessed people. Our children are not acts of charity or pity. They are just like any other child bringing laughter, chaos and joy into their families’ worlds.

I’m so glad Willie & Nathan found each other — they were obviously destined to be a forever family.
