Sarah Chalke Welcomes Son Charlie Rhodes

Jen Lowery/Startraks

It’s a boy for Sarah Chalke!

The Scrubs star and fiancé Jamie Afifi, an entertainment lawyer, welcomed son Charlie Rhodes Afifi on Christmas Eve, her rep confirms to PEOPLE exclusively.

The baby boy is the first child for the actress, 33, and James, 36, who were engaged in Dec. 2006. The couple announced the pregnancy in August.

Charlie will have some company in the Scrubs nursery — Sarah’s costar Judy Reyes welcomed daughter Leila Rey in November.

Aww! Yay! Congratulations to Sarah & Jamie. I’ve always followed Sarah as she is Canadian. I like the name Charlie and a Christmas Eve baby is always so special!

- Brooklyn on

I adoreee her! What a nice name.

- electra on

Charlie Affifi doesn’t really have a ring to it tho.

- electra on

Yay, a normal name! Love her on Scrubs. Congrats on the arrival of baby Charlie; cute name.

Congratulations! I’ve been waiting for this announcement.

I love the name.

A little surprised I was expecting a traditional name but not Charlie with that last name…

Congrats to Sarah – I think the name Charlie is super cute!

Sounds like Charlie Rose. I think Charles Afifi sounds better, but at least they chose something normal.

- Tess on

aww, congratulations! my baby was born on christmas eve too :)

- momof2 on

Congrats! To each their own but I hate when people use nicknames for given names. But he is not my son.

- Shirese on

I’ve never met a Charlie I didn’t like!

YEA! I love her. I would love to read a CBB interview on her labor, parenting style, plans to work, etc.

- sarawara on

I was hoping the baby would be named Elliot – but maybe that’s because I’m such a fan of Sarah’s and Scrubs! Congrats to the family.

- Erin on

Awww, yay! I *love* Sarah :) And the name Charlie is so sweet!

Also, I agree with sarawara — CBB, can we get an interview with her???

- The Nanny on

Yay! I’m so happy for them. I like the name Charlie Rhodes but Afifi is not a good last name for any first name really. Not meaning to be offensive but i can’t think of any good pairing with that last name.

- Luna on

Congratulations to them!

its so weird that I was thinking about her all day today wondering if she had her baby! guess i just knew an update would come today

- Alex on

Congrats to them! Loves the name!

I love his name its so cute!!
But I personally think that “Charlie Rhodes Afifi-Chalke” would have been cuter so his name would be ‘Charlie Chalke’ hah…
But congrats to Sarah I bet she is going to be the lovliest mom!! :D

- Danielle on

Charlie is such a cute name…but what a yucky birth date!

- Riley on

I love the name! And I guess it’s easier to just name the child what you plan on calling him, rather than the full name. Much preferable than my situation, where people feel entitled to call me “Kathy” just because my name is Kathleen. UGH. Hopefully, being a Charlie and not a Charles, this kid can avoid being called Chuck or Chaz!

- kmb on

Congrats to them. Although it’s too close to Charlie Rose for my taste

- Megan on

Charles is a name a person can live with their entire life. It’s classic and classy. Charlie is a cute nickname. I’d hate to have to explain to people my entire life that my name is actually Charlie and not Charles.

- Jane on

yay! congrats! love her on Scrubs (I agree with you Erin! lol)

- sil on

Congrats to Sarah and Jamie! I’m sure Charlie is adorable.

- Liliana on

For some reason I just don’t like the name. And I agree w/Luna’s post, as Afifi is an unfortunate and difficult last name. But a Christmas Eve baby…I love it!!! I think that’s just so cool. :)

- Jennifer on

Charlie Afifi runs together. I prefer full names, don’t get nicknames as full names at all.

Congrats to them! I’m sure he’s a doll.
