Matt Damon Says Children Aren't Naturally Prejudiced

George Pimentel/WireImage

In his new film Invictus, Matt Damon portrays Francois Pienaar, captain of the South African rugby team as apartheid in that country was coming to an end.

The 39-year-old actor says that as a father, teaching tolerance is a priority — but there isn’t much to be taught, for he doesn’t believe “it’s a natural state for children to be prejudiced.”

Citing stepdaughter Alexia, 11, as an example, Matt tells PARADE he recently attempted to explain the concept of segregation without much success.

“We talked about Alabama in the ’60s, and she was utterly baffled,” he reveals.

“Alexia is very dark — her father is Cuban, and my wife’s Argentinean — so I tried to explain that she probably would not have been able to use white water fountains. She goes to school with all types of kids and plays with everyone, so it was a lot for her to grasp.”

Matt and wife Luciana are also parents to Isabella, 3, and Gia Zavala, 15 months. Invictus is in theaters Friday.

Credit: Ahmad Elatab-SaleemElatab/Splash News Online; Galo/Paul/INF

Honor Warren is well on her way to becoming our fave mini fashionista. So it’s cool to see another up-and-coming stylesetter — Leni Klum — shares the same taste (or at least their moms, Jessica Alba and Heidi Klum, do!).

Gap

Both girls were spotted recently wearing Gap‘s floral bow jacket (now $19.99, originally $34.50).

While Honor paired it with a more colorful ensemble, Leni wore hers with a chic black dress and leggings combo.

Either way, it works — and for less than $20!

Jennifer Garner Living Life 'At Two Extremes'

Courtesy W for use on CBB

There is an “internal battle” being waged by Jennifer Garner, one that millions of other moms will identify with, and she opens up about it in January issue of W magazine.

“I need to work, I need to work, I need to work and I need to be home with my kids,” she explains, “and the kids win.”

That much is apparent when the 37-year-old actress is asked whether she has plans to return to Broadway after her successful run in Cyrano de Bergerac in 2007. Calling the experience “just my favorite thing I’ve ever done,” Jennifer says she’s nonetheless decided to stick with films, citing the more family-friendly work hours.

“[Theater] is hard on my family,” she notes. “You can’t tell your kids, ‘I’m exhausted. Wake up with someone else today.’”

For now, Jennifer says that daughters Violet Anne, 4, and Seraphina Rose Elizabeth, 11 months, have been enjoying mom’s undivided attention, and the day-to-day routine she describes is routine for many.

“[It's about] getting the kids up and fed, getting one to school, getting the other down for a nap, going to the grocery store, picking one up from school, getting the other one down for another nap, cooking dinner…I live my life at these two extremes. I’m either a full-time stay-at-home mom or a full-time actress.”
