Satyana Denisof: Santa Monica Stripes

Kevin Perkins/Pedro Andrade/Pacific Coast News

There’s no looking back for 9-month-old Satyana Marie Denisof!

Baby girl was only interested in looking forward during a stroll in Santa Monica on Friday with her parents Alyson Hannigan and Alexis Denisof. She is the first child for the couple, who married in 2003.

During our recent exclusive interview, the 35-year-old How I Met Your Mother star revealed the inspiration behind her daughter’s name.

“The root of her name means ‘truth’ in Sanskrit, and we added the ‘ana’ to make it go better with my husband’s last name, which is Russian,” Alyson revealed. “Her middle name is Marie after my aunt. We often call her Sati though.”

Satyana is so cute! Alyson always looks so happy

They are all so cute! There’s no denying that girls father, she is his mini-me!

- Nanny-Emma on

I like them, they seem sweet and happy. Their little girl is cute and looks so much like her daddy right now! I don’t really care for making up names though.

- ritter on

They do seem like a sweet couple and Sati looks like she is very happy. ritter you say you don’t care for making up names… all names are made up, some names may be very old but alot of names are words from languages feminized or masculinized, the names of flora and fauna and the marriage of two words to create a 3rd word. I always have liked the etymology of words and names, its amazing to discover where certain words came from… and names for that matter.

Ritter, at least a “made-up” name is unique. What a nice thing, I think.

- Lilly on

I can’t believe how big Satyana is getting. Sati definitely looks like Alexis for sure. WOW I can’t believe that Alyson is 35! She looks so young.

The nice thing about a name like Satyana, is that it doesn’t sound made up or silly. It seems like it would be an old name from some other culture. I really like Alyson, she seems incredibly cool and sweet. Also, my daughter was born the same day as her daughter :-)

Satyana looks like she would be such a ball of energy, she’s so cute.

And concerning the name topic….So Ritter doesn’t like made-up names…I don’t see what the problem is. We all have our own taste. I love this site but one reason I stay away from the comments is the constant calling out of people and telling them their opinion is wrong.

Satyana is a cutie! LOVE her sleeper suit! But what is with Denisof’s sweater? It makes him look like Mr Rogers!

Even with the back story I still think the girl’s name is silly & insubstantial. If they wanted the name to go with her Russian surname, they’d have been better served by the REAL name Tatyana.

No one has been critical of anyone else’s opinions, Isabella. That is, until you. It is okay to offer different opinions in a kind fashion, I believe. That is the point of the comments. The only thing that grows tiresome to me, are the folks, like yourself, who feel the need to tell others not to “criticize” when you are, in fact, offering criticism.

They are always a photo-friendly family; pictures of them are always cute. Satyana is adorable.

I like Satyana. Who cares is someone thinks the name is silly and insubstantial? Her parents chose it just for their daughter and it’s special to them.

- Terri on

Isabella… I certainly never meant to imply that Ritter’s opinion was wrong – I was just saying that virtually every name was made up at one point. I am sorry if made anyone feel as if I thought their opinion wasn’t valid, it was meant only as an observation.

- Anna on

Ouch, mrsh, no need to be rude, seeing as a.) I wasn’t and b.) you weren’t even who I was referring to in my previous comment seeing as your comment wasn’t critical at all. I think I should have been more clear: Lilly’s comment irked me just a little and I’ve seen a lot of other posts of that nature here lately, so I made a general statement about it. Sorry for the confusion. And thanks Anna for addressing me politely, I appreciate that.

- Isabella on

Funny, when Satyana was born I was thinking “I guess it’s the feminine form of Satya…never heard it before.” I guess now I know why!

As far as “made-up” names go, though, I like it a lot.
