Joey McIntyre Keeping Name of Baby-On-The-Way a Secret

Roger Karnbad/Celebrity Photo

As he awaits the birth of his second son, Joey McIntyre is keeping mum. The 36-year-old New Kids on the Block singer says that he and wife Barrett know baby-on-the-way’s name but won’t share it with friends or family until he arrives.

“My sisters are mad at me,” Joey admits. “God forbid we keep a couple secrets in this day and age!” He adds,

“I think people are afraid of the reaction, good or bad. If you say a name, you’re very sensitive about the name, so you don’t want people to have that reaction and go [disparagingly] ‘Mmmm,’ whereas once the baby’s born, people are a little more inviting of that name.”

The couple took son Griffin Thomas, 2, to Disneyland recently for “one more special time” as a family of three, but it appears as though Griffin is ready for the main event!

“My sister-in-law had a baby six months ago, so it was perfect timing,” Joey explains. “Here is this beautiful little girl that he can be around and learn how to be gentle.”

“He adores her. Hopefully it will be the same situation. It’s going to be fun to have a couple of boys around.”

Joey and Barrett’s baby boy is due this month.

lol this is so true! My mom named me Brenna but when she started telling people my name they were like oh, I don’t like it so she started keeping it a secret and her friend’s daughter was having a baby girl and when my Mom asked what her baby’s name was going to be she said she won’t tell anyone because no one liked it and her name ended up being Brenna too!
I think its fun to have a secret name till the baby gets here.

He’s obviously never spent time on CBB, as soon as a birth announcement goes up there are multiple comments trashing the kid’s name.

I can’t wait to hear about it. Joe’s new EP is amazing! The best work he’s done solo.

To be married to a NKOTB member! *sigh* she’s a lucky gal!

Kat – Ain’t that the truth. I do understand what he’s saying, though. If you tell people the name before and the name isn’t liked, you keep getting suggestions from those close to you. “What about…”, “Don’t you like…”, etc. When you tell after you may still get the “Hmmm. That interesting.” or “Where’d you find that name?” But at least the comments tend to be phrased nicer the majority of the time!! (Anonymous blogs aside, of course.)

Kat he is talking about real life, not some people he doesn’t even know posting on a website. And he is right. Never tell the name beforehand because there will be people that are honest about liking or not liking.

I never say I don’t like a name even if the child hasn’t been born yet.

She looks like Jennifer Meyer Maguire.

Ladyday, I was thinking the exact same thing! I thought that was Toby’s wife, Jen. I wondered, “When did Jen make the jump from Toby to Joey?” lol

Janet, I thought the same thing! He will always be Joey Joe to me, my first true love. :) I didn’t know her name was Barrett, I like that!

I agree on waiting to announce the baby’s name. A friend of ours shared their name only to be made feel bad and talked into another name! It was sad to hear the horrible comments her family made. That’s exactly why we waited to tell everyone our 2nd borns name, and I notice a lot of people are doing that now too.

Janet & Jessicad – - me too! Ah he always has been and always will be my JoeyJoe. :D Oh to spend just one day with him…..

Who is he? lol

I agree with not sharing the name for the baby. I will only share my name choices with a very few people that will love whatever I choose.

I wonder if Barrett is due soon or towards the end of the month? If would be funny if the baby was born on his daddy’s birthday, December 31.

I think that’s a smart thing. No need for people you know trashing the name. I bet it’ll be something Irish.

I personally think it’s obnoxious when people say they’re keeping the name a secret. It’s like, honestly I was just being polite, I don’t really care.
But, to each his own.
