Cate Blanchett and Iggy's Park Playtime

Asadorian-Mejia/Splash News Online

Making the most of her day before the evening’s performance of A Streetcar Named Desire, Cate Blanchett enjoyed the afternoon at Madison Square Park with son Ignatius Martin, 19 months, on Tuesday.

Iggy’s big brothers Roman Robert, 5 ½, and Dashiell John, 8, were there as well but are not pictured.

The three boys are Cate’s with husband Andrew Upton.

cute kid, but I don’t think I would have my boy wear a pink accessorized jacket. Maybe it’s a hoodie underneath. I don’t know.

- mom to 3 boys on

What a gorgeous boy, swoon! I do find it interesting she’s dressed him magenta, but it is an adorable outfit.

- Jess on

Oh, seeing that jacket takes me back. Must be a hand-me-down from a big brother because I bought that jacket at the Gap for my son when he was about to turn 2 and he’ll be 6 in February. I loved that jacket…so toasty and warm and adorable! We had good times when he was wearing that jacket and I was pregnant with his little sister (he now has 2) and it was just the two of us spending our days together. Thanks for the flashback CBB!

- UggaMugga.com on

I want to be her when I grow up. *Sigh*

- Mags on

Oh for god’s sake. What is wrong with the jumper the little boy is wearing?? Are you all afraid he’ll grow up to be……shock horror……gay because his mum made him wear a pink jumper?

These ridiculous stereotypes drive me mad. Get a grip.

- RubyinEngland on

I agree Ruby. I hate how people think if boys touch or wear anything that may be even remotely feminine he’s been magically castrated. Is there a study that says blue makes one more masculine, and if that is the case why do we let girls wear the color?

- dee on

I agree with Ruby. Children shouldn’t be limited to colors because of their gender. When I was a kid, I HATED Barbies, so I’d get the Hot Wheels with my Happy Meal. They always asked “Girl or boy?” Well I certainly wasn’t a boy, I just didn’t want a lousy doll! Gender stereotypes irk me like nothing else.

- B.J. on

Um, it’s a purple hoodie, people! Every time I come on this site people are nit-picking everything parents do!

On a happy note I love the coat, he’s adorable and I love Cate!

- mary on

Awww he’s getting so big! He looks like he’s saying ‘Let me go Mommy, I wanna go play!’

As for the outfit, I see nothing wrong with it. My boy cousin used to play Barbies with me and his sister because he wanted to be included. He also wanted his nails painted. We compromised with painting his big toe lol.

But still, I don’t see anything wrong with the color. Its sort of purple which is fine. I’ve seen boys dressed in more girlish colors and there’s nothing wrong.

Isn’t the saying afterall, real men wear pink?

- Mandy on

A color is a color. Nothing more nothing less. Considering there’s an entire spectrum of them, a child can wear whichever one he or she wants. For me, there’s no such thing as “boy colors” or “girl colors”.

- Liliana on

Call the masculinity police! A purple hoodie and two different shades of pink in his socks. Awful parenting. There was me thinking that as he was dressed weather appropriate people would have nothing to moan about.

I think he is adorable, and I love the boys names. Ignatius especially.

- Dasiy1 on

I love his outfit. And I LOVE his name!

- Jessi on

i wonder if those people saying the little boy shouldn’t be dressed in pink have the same attitude about girls wearing blue. it is ridiculous that in this day and age there are still people who are so childish and immature that it makes them uncomfortable to see a little boy wearing pink and actually say they wouldn’t dress their kid like that. sad, really sad. i hope we all become more open-minded and rational (because it is totally irrational!).

- JM on

I despise gender stereotypes!!! The hoodie is purple and even if it were a shade of pink….who the heck cares, it’s not like his mother dressed him in a ruffly frilly dress with tights and a bow on his head and is “pretending” he’s really a girl. Come on!!

I’m currently expecting my second little one. My son is 2 and his sister is due in March, and I’ve honestly had people act like I’m horrible because I’ve openly stated that I will not be buying pink (at all) for her. I don’t care for pink…. or pastels in general for that matter, so why would I want to purchase that color? When she is old enough to tell me what color she wants…. then she can have whatever color she chooses! (and yes…. I fully intend to return all the “pink” baby gifts and exchange them for a different color/style/item…I’m horrible!!)

- soon2Bmomof2 on

Oh… and he is an adorable little boy in an adorable outfit!! My son wears purple all the time and not once has someone said he looked like a girl!!

- soon2Bmomof2 on

I love that he has a dignified name but a cool nickname to go along with it! That’s a very awesome combination IMO!

And I’ll jump on the pink/purple hoodie bandwagon – grow up, people! It’s a hoodie. He’s a baby. Do you really think sexual orientation is developed by the color of clothes a person wears? Um, no.

- mommaruthsays on

Purple is my 7 year old son’s favorite color and he wears it all the time – I don’t see the problem. He also loves all things sparkly and loves his plastic bead necklaces and bracelets (He wears them almost daily) Why should girls get ALL of the options of fun things to wear? Boys are soooo limited to a few colors and no accessories :-( Girls get pants and shorts like boys but they also get dresses and skirts and tights and hair accessories etc etc etc. Drives me nuts that when you go in a kids clothing store the girl side is huge and the boy side is tiny – And the girl side is a rainbow of colors whilst the boy side is drab and only a few colors. Most kids like the whole rainbow of colors (And sparkly things, for that matter lol) So I don’t see why boys should be limited while girls get all the options.

- amandamay on

Magenta and purple and pale pink are worn all the time by grown men…ie english bankers often wear pink shirts with their suits…and purple is a regal colour that used to be worn by kings…I love the fact that boys are getting to strike out a bit and wear whatever they want…feminism has brought benefits for both genders and my son wears those colours all the time.

PS If Iggy was to be gay I doubt Cate would care AT ALL. Just like I wouldn’t if my son is gay.

- moose on

A boy in purple – yipee ;)

- Kate on

You know what is insanely sad? I knew that someone would say something negative about the colors of his outfit before I clicked on this. Grow up people. To my eyes the hoodie is actually purple but it doesn’t really make a difference. There have been plenty of pictures of celebrity girls in blue and no one seems to get upset about that. Double standard much.

- electra on

If Suri was in that park the same time, she would most likely have a bathing suit on and Katie all bundled up in layers as usual!

- helen on

I agree- Pink is in! I actually like pink button down shirts on men, I think it looks nice. A baby, not so much, because you can’t really tell if they’re a boy or girl yet. And no I am not against girls wearing blue, they make some adorable stuff in blue. I would never put my future sons in this outfit, but I don’t think it’s a bad thing.

- Erika on

I love that coat and the purple sweater! He is so adorable.

I can’t believe people are actually taking issue with the fact that Iggy is wearing a purple top… seriously, find something matters to care about!

- alice jane on

I definitely thought it was purple – and in any case, it is a gorgeous colour for both girls and boys. There’s honestly nothing wrong with it and it irks me to see comments about people shocked that they’d never dress their boys in colours restricted simply for girls. My cousin is 8, and though he’s a boy, he quite enjoys doing my makeup and when he was younger asked me to put it on him! Would you like to voice your dissaproval about this?

- Raisa on

her son looks adorable and cate as always looks so stylish. she is one of the best dressed celebrity moms
