Padma Lakshmi: 'I'm Genuinely Happy'

There are no illusions for Padma Lakshmi about how she’ll someday reclaim her pre-baby body. The 39-year-old Top Chef host tells Page Six Magazine that while some women can maintain their physique with diet alone, she is not one of them.

“You can eat and work out, or you can be the person who only eats a cucumber every day,” she notes. “I’d get really irritable if all I ate was a cucumber, so I have to work hard.”

By her own admission, she’ll have her work cut out for her in late March/early April, when she expects her first child.

“One of the reasons I think I’ve gained weight pretty quickly during my pregnancy is that I’m not exercising as much as I do normally…I can’t. I’m feeling tired, and I have this business to run. You hope that with age, what you pay for in gravity, you gain in gravitas. I’m sure my thighs looked better when I was 25, but I think my mind is better today.”

Admitting that “everything is…plumped up,” Padma reveals that she is “eating all the time now.” If she’s feeling at all anxious about the changes she is about to undergo, Padma isn’t showing it, however.

“I’m genuinely happy,” she proclaims. “I’ve taken a really long time to take the bricks of my life and set them in this way. My life can be as traumatic and as boring as anyone else’s life, but it’s also sweet and comfortable.”

This is beautiful, and I’m glad she’s enjoying her pregnancy and growing body.

Love that quote (“what you pay for in gravity..”). What is most striking about her is really her intelligence!

Now here’s a nude photoshoot that is very tastefully done! :)

I have to say that she is an inspiration. She keeps it real but she knows when to keep private matters private. Love that photo as well.

I love Padma. She is the Indian version of Jacklyn Smith. A breath of fresh air.

I think I might have to frame that quote!

I wish Padma would blog on the Top Chef blog. After all she’s such a big part of the show and she doesn’t blog there anymore. She looks beautiful with her pregnancy and I wish her well.I hope the babys’ Father will be in his or her life.

"We weren't trying to have kids. We left it up to fate. I knew there was a possibility, but I was really excited. Even if you are trying, just to see a positive result is shocking!"
