Madonna‘s daughters Lourdes Maria, 13, and Mercy James, 3 ½, stroll through Los Angeles International Airport hand in hand on Monday.

No word on where the pair were headed, but they were accompanied by brothers Rocco John, 9, and David Banda, 4.

Describing her children recently, Madonna told Rolling Stone,

“Lourdes likes all my old songs. She’s really into the Eighties, from the way she dresses to the music she listens to. Rocco likes anything that I did with Timbaland. Basically, he’s a hip-hop and electronica boy.”

Just a question, those of you that always seem to comment that a 13, 13, 14 yr old girl doesn’t look her age, do you have teenage girls? Lourdes looks like my daughter (who was 14 at the end of Oct.) and all her friends….same with Ava Smabora. They look like normal middle school teenage girls to me. My daughter plays with her hair style and color, wears makeup and trndy clothes as do her friends. Marygrace (my daughter), is also an honor student in the gifted and talented program, very active in our church youth group, and a really good kid (for anyone that feels dying hair and wearing makeup makes them bad or wild kids).
It just always makes me sit and wonder what you all are seeing that I am not. I see Lourdes or Ava or Michael J. Fox’s twins and I see beautiful little teeny-bopper girls, like I have in my house constantly with my daughter and her friends.

Sheabyshea, I don’t think that most people equate experimenting with clothes and makeup a sign of a “bad kid” but Lourdes does look a lot older than 13 here (and I’m 26, not some conservative middle aged woman). My 16 year old cousin tends to try to look older than she is too, and I think the concern is just that it will garner male attention that they aren’t old enough to handle yet (I’m definitely not implying that your daughter is in that boat, just saying at least that’s what I worry about with my cousin). I think in this pic she would have at least been a little better with non-sheer leggings, my that’s just my opinion.

sheabyshea – I have to say, it does depend on the kid. I was a teacher at a K-12 school, so I saw the full spectrum of ages. Some girls at 12, 13, 14, do look like Lourdes. I, myself was one of those girls at that age. Now, I still look 16, despite being more than a decade past. However, there were also some girls who still looked like little kids. I had a 16 year-old student who could have easily passed for 12, both in appearance and maturity. I also taught a 17-year old who could have been my age! I don’t think there is anything wrong with Lourdes, or Ava Sambora. I loved dying my hair and experimenting with fashion and makeup when I was a preteen/teen. It’s a time in your life where you’re trying to discover who you are. There are much worse things to experiment with.

i agree mrsh. my sister is 15 and looks more like a 12 yr old, she definitely looks younger than Lourdes. but of course when she occasionally wears make up it does make her look a little older. and while we’re on this subject i’m about to be 21 and i had someone guess my age as 14! lol! so clearly looking your age varies from person to person : )

I can only speak for myself. I did not look like that at 13 let alone 16 okay let alone now at 26!!!!! I didn’t have the money for makeup, clothes, or hairstyles (and still don’t lol)…but some girls just happen to look younger then others!

well I’m going to go out on a limb and say that I hope my daughter at 13 does not look like either Lourdes or Ava …sorry, but its too much for me and I am not some conservative old woman either! I want them to look fit , healthy, cute but not “experimenting” with tight dresses, makeup or see through tights… but I am not American!

The kids seem to grow up faster over there, just an observation – perhaps it’s because we’re only seeing celebrities kids’, and that’s a different story perhaps?, but there does seem to be more pressure on girls, weight and image obsessed comments, hopefully not the ‘norm’?!

Lourdes is 13, she’s old enough to babysit her 3 y.o. sister for a few hours or even to accompany her on a plane flight. That’s the problem with parenting today, mothers are expected to be crazy-glued to their children 24/7 until they’re 18.

L, I completely disagree. Well I think maybe Madonna doesn’t necessarily have to be with her, there should absolutely be some supervision especially since those children are celebrity children. (i’m not saying there isn’t supervision… perhaps they were right outside of the picture) I would never allow my 13 year old to go to the airport with her little sister alone. If you have small children that are flying alone, you can get a pass to go to the gate with them. I’d expect Madonna (or a nanny or some sort of adult) to go to the gate with them. I have no problem with Lourdes going on a plane ride alone if she were not a celebrity child but I’d walk her to the gate and have her walk straight to baggage claim when she is done. And I wouldn’t expect her to take her little sister because I feel that is just too much responsibility for a 13 year old. It’s not like Madonna is 5 minutes away running errands or something. She could be in a completely different state while they are flying. I don’t expect parents to be with their children 24/7 but an airport I feel children should have supervision especially if they are 13 and watching a younger sibling.

As for how Lourdes looks… I agree she looks older than 13 and kids these days (especially those in America where I live) grow up too fast and try to look older than they really are. Is it bad? I dunno… sometimes it really is just the fact that a person can’t help how old they look but other times they are trying too hard and I don’t necessarily like that.

mslewis – I love Madonna! I think her kids are great. If you read my post correctly, i glanced at the pic and i did not know it was a kid! My first thought it was a mom (around 30) and i thought she looked hard looking. Than i realized it was Lourdes. It shocked me how she looks older for her age. Secondly, don’t call me a “idiot”, you sound like one for not reading the post correctly. Some times poeople glance at pics and have a first reaction to who they think they are and than it’s like wow! it’s not that person. Lourdes just needs to lay off that dark makeup so she looks more like a kid. She’s a fine young lady whose a great older sister.

I think she does look 13, as people have said, 13 year olds all look different, some are still kids, some are allready fully fledged teens (don’t know how else to say it). I was never really into make up, but I was into clothes (even though I couldn’t afford new ones) and I had no problems getting in to movies with a minimum age limit of 16 years when I was 12, on the other hand, I was more than 30 last time I had to prove that I was old enough to buy liqour. Also, I doubt she was at the airport alone, the article says Rocco and David were there too but not pictured, and so were probably a handfull of others.

I think Lourdes looks her age for once. She looks 13. Most of the other pictures I’ve seen of her, she was still looking like a very young girl. I think straightening her hair and cutting it makes her look like most teenagers I see around here. They are into that sort of 80s/Emo combination of styling. Besides, this is Madonna’s daughter. Did you expect her to be dressing like Chelsea Clinton did at 13–with flower print dresses and 1 inch pumps? LOL Compare that to the last pic posted on here of Kim Basinger and Alec Baldwins 13 year old daughter this year. Ireland looks like a hot 19 year old and she is allowed to dress as such. Lourdes looks age appropriate.
