thats awful! those poor people who work there! sorry but Thanksgiving is a time to be with family, not working the circus for people looking for a tshirt thats 50 cents cheaper. isnt it bad enough that they have to be up at 3am (earlier actually) the next day?

I’m one of the world’s biggest shopaholics-going for a stroll around the mall before meeting a friend for dinner tonight, in fact-and I’ve yet to go shopping on Black Friday, let alone Thanksgiving. To me, the holidays are the few days a year to get away from the madness and relax with loved ones. Not to mention the fact that jostling people for mountains of stuff kind of takes the fun out of shopping for me.

That said, jess is right. Doctors, firefighters, reporters, etc. all get stuck working on the holidays too. If you don’t have too, count yourself lucky.

In response to Dickie, I work at Old Navy and there really are great deals going on. A lot of our sales actually started this past Sunday and run through Sunday. Not every old navy is open on thanksgiving though, it is just the ones that are not located inside a mall. There are a lot of us who have to be there very earily. I actually have to work 11pm thanksgiving night until 8am Friday.

I understand what you all are saying. I know that doctors and firefighters and reporters have to work holidays. In the work I do we rotate emergency duty for the holidays so I have worked on Thanksgiving and Hannukah and Christmas. But these professions (and mine) know that going in and the majority are compensated well for that. I just dont feel its right to have someone making minimum wage or thereabouts working on holidays.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Enjoy your loved ones!

A lot of people actually WANT to work on holidays because they have no plans, or would rather make double pay, so it’s not like they’re forced to be there.

plus, I’m pretty sure they get a 50% employee discount, and probably get first dibs on these sales….to 50% off ON TOP of the gobblepalooza sale?! PLUS double pay? I say they have a pretty good deal, actually!
