Robin Thicke, Paula Patton Pick Baby's Name

Jordan Strauss/FilmMagic

As Robin Thicke gets ready to become a father, he can check one item off his to-do list: the baby’s name.

“We like Julian if it’s a boy and Isabella if it’s a girl,” he told PEOPLE Saturday while hosting at The Bank nightclub in Las Vegas.

Robin’s wife, Paula Patton, is due with their first child in May.

“My wife is good,” he said, “I’m just trying to make her as comfortable as possible and hopefully nature will take care of the rest and give us a healthy baby.”

Though this is his first, he’s gotten plenty of advice. “The best advice I’ve got was I’ve been told just to enjoy this moment and it’s the most special time in your life. It can seem stressful and worrisome, but it’s the best time and we’re excited.”

Lovely names, and that advise is so true. Cant wait to see this baby, congratulations again.

- True on

I love those names, simple yet very classy and it suits their family i think. Whatever the baby is, boy/girl and whatever name they choose, the baby will be gorgeous!!

- shirab on

Those are great names!

- RaisingChild on

Very nice names. I know five little Isabella’s right now. It is popular because it is so pretty.

- cali on

Julian is ok but Isabella is boring and way overused.

- Sara on

I love those names is I have a baby girl I will name her Isabella Love it.

- Merlin on

I used to love Isabella, but now with the Twilight stuff it’s so overused. I really dislike the name “Bella”.

Julian is a really nice name though.

- Natasha on

Isabella beautiful but way too popular…..Julian nice and simple.

- JMO on

Those are both lovely names. Isabella is quite popular right now, but that doesn’t make it any less lovely. If you don’t mind giving your child a popular name, than it is a beautiful choice. Not everyone cares if their kid has a popular name. I do, unfortunately, associate it with the main character in the Twilight series (which I’m not a fan of), so that kind of ruins the name for me, personally.

- mrsh on

My cousin’s name is Julian. I like that name very much. Isabella is a little overused but at least it’s a pretty and classic name and not overly trendy like Jayden, Aidan, and McKenzie and those kind of names.

- Jessica on

Julien is my son’s name … we love it! Haven’t met many others …

- kri on

I really like the name Julian but Isabella is soooooooooo common now! I am a tad disappointed that they didnt come up with a more original girls name. I hope its a boy!

- Michelle on

I like the names, but they are kind of popular. Well actually Isabella is extremely popular! Julian is ok.

- Jessi on

Julian’s a very nice name, and Isabella is my absolute favorite name for a girl. It’s so timemessly elegant and feminine. Yes it’s popular now, but it’s a name that has been around for centuries-it’s the Italian version of Elizabeth. So much prefer names like these that will always be stylish and go through phases of being more trendy than not to the Bailey/Hailey/Kailey trend, which I personally can’t stand.

- Lauren on

Love Julian!! Isabella..beautiful but so incredibly overused! Well, at least they didn’t choose Ava!

- Grandma2Three on

Whatever they name their little one it will be gorgeous!!

- Lady on

The name Bailey is actually an older, classic male name. The 1970′s is when it became more feminine and popular. :) I love the name Julian! I had a friend named that, and he was killed in the war 3 years ago. It makes me smile to hear his name. And, I agree with everyone about Isabella! I use to LOVE the name, and now it’s ruined in my eyes. It’s waaaayyyy too popular:

* #2 in United States
* #3 in Australia (New South Wales)
* #4 in Australia (Victoria)
* #4 in New Zealand
* #6 in Canada (Alberta)
* #6 in Canada (Ontario)
* #7 in Canada (British Columbia)
* #12 in Canada (Saskatchewan)
* #15 in Denmark
* #19 in England
* #19 in Iceland
* #33 in Sweden
* #62 in Norway
* #64 in Ireland
* #69 in Scotland
* #139 in Canada (Quebec)

Julian is a beautiful name :) so is Isabella, but as somebody said before, I use to love the name but now is too popular, maybe is because of Twilight.

- sil on

This is why I refused to tell anyone the names we were even considering for our kids. Too many negative comments. Once the baby’s born, people are much less likely to complain about the name.

- Mags on

I plan on naming my daughter Isabella. It may be popular overall, but not where I live (Ashley and Brittany are still the most common here). I don’t know a single Isabella nor do my school aged siblings.

- CJ on

I just had my baby girl a week ago and she is named Madeline Amelie Rose! But we call her Maddie. I think its such a timeless classic french name.

- babyboopie on

I LOVE the name Isabella, it’s actually on my list of baby girl names…but I do hate how popular it has become. But at least in my daughter’s school the name is not very common, but she is in middle school, so I’m sure it’s more popular in at the elementary school level these days…but I’m keeping it on my list tho! :)

- daniela on

Good names!! I’m planning on naming my little girl Isabella Rose.

- Molly on

I think Isabel (Isabelle, Isabell) is cute, sounds good with Thicke too…Isabella sounds like a mouthful to me.

- Forever Moore on

I don’t think Isabella is a match for the last name. Kids probably would ask:

Is abella Thicke?

Not good.

- Tam on

My 5yr old niece is named Isabella. The name wasn’t as popular then, and she is named after my 88 yr old Grandmother.

- Julie on

I like the name for future reference, but I like Isobel (Isobelle, Isobele) much, much better!

- Jessi on

i love the name julian for a boy, but agree with most of you that isabella is way overused! there are so many other lovely names… can’t wait to see the baby!

- carrington's momma on

I’m rather surprised celebrities NEVER use these names:

BOYS: Ebenezer, Isaac, Craig, Sidney, Cyprian, Stanley, Nigel, Seamus, Lionel, and Cecil

GIRLS: Gertrude, Jacintha, Mildred, Courtney, Phaedra, Lysette, Ingrid, Rosalind, Dorothy, and Shirley.

These are all names—none of them weird—that you don’t hear everyday. Too many Maxs, Avas, Jacksons, Sophias, Zoes, etc. running around in Hollywood, IMO. lol

- Niko on

Yes for Julian! No for Isabella- too popular right now! I personally did not share our twins’ names (Malachi and Lincoln) until they were born. We felt that it was important to keep something a surprise for the birth and then people couldn’t give their opinion b/c it was already their name!

- urbanadventurertales on

Jessi, I’m biased as our daughter’s middle name is Isabelle (figured she can go by that as her first name’s not so common, if she prefers when she’s older, her choice) but ITA with you. I like Isabella too, but prefer isabelle as isabella’s so popular/common as people are saying – I do understand why, however. I have a cousin with a Bella, and prefer that shorter version since it’s not heard of as often here. Not a fan of ‘Julian’ at all, personally, but their baby and they obviously do like it, the main thing.

- Sam and Freya's mum on

Sorry Jessi, d’oh on my part!: just noticed you mentioned preferring IsObelle, still without the ‘a’ ending…

- Sam and Freya's mum on

Sam and Freya’s Mum: Don’t worry about it. I like Isabelle too! :) I have always liked the Isabelle or Isabel or Isobel or Isobelle names :) I should have mentioned that in my post! lol

Though with Bella I wouldn’t be able to use it, Twilight *rolls eyes* I don’t like to use names that are really popular or in really popular books/movies. Don’t get me wrong I like the Twilight books, but her name is Isabella or Bella for short!

Now Isa or Izzy would be cute :)

- Jessi on

Not a fan of Julian but I love Isabella!

- Brooklyn on

yes because of Twilight you now will have more Bella’s then ever along with Edwards!! I guess Jacob is still popular anyways so that one doesn’t matter. Or people will just start naming their kids moon!! lol

- JMO on

JMO I think that will be true! lol Jacob is still one of the top names for a boy, so there will be alot of those still, but Edward too.

- Jessi on

Very nice names! I love Julian.

- Jane on

I love the name Julian. Isabella is overused but nice as well.

- Brandi on

I love the names Julian and Isabella. And who cares if a name is popular wouldnt you rather have a popular name like beautiful Isabella than an uncommon name like APPLE!Its really their choice and just because a name is more popular doesnt make it anyless nice. I dont put it with the twilight Bella at all. Best wishes for the couple.

- Jen on

I like Isobel, I like how it looks.

- Electra on

Jen I definitely agree!

And Electra I do too! :)

- Jessi on

They are both gorgeous, Im sure their baby will be beautiful! Great names they have chosen!

- Jasmynn. L on

those are such beautiful names
