Tiffani Thiessen Vows No 'Crazy' Baby Names

Don’t look to Tiffani Thiessen to push the envelope when it comes to naming the baby she expects in May.

Although she admits that she and husband Brady Smith are “tooling around with a ton of names,” the couple “haven’t come up with anything solid yet.”

There’s already a working short list of “favorites” and while Tiffani didn’t divulge any details, she did reveal “they’re nothing crazy.” She adds,

“We’re very traditional people, me being from California and my husband from Texas. You’re not going to find any freaky names. I promise.”

Baby-on-the-way will be the first child for the 35-year-old actress and Brady, who married in 2005.

I like Tiffany and I’m happy for her and Brady. But what does being from California and Texas have to do with them being “traditional” people? I just thought it was a funny remark. That’s all.

You being from California makes you traditional? Really? Because most of those crazy names come from the freaky parts of California. Those of us in the Midwest think Californians are mostly insane, so I’m not sure how “normal” you can be. Bwahahaha!

Agreed, Forever Moore.

I’m not sure where a “freaky part” of California is. When it’s said like that, you’d think we’re discussing the differences between Earth and Saturn. A person’s location has nothing to do with how off the wall or not a name is. What a person likes is what a person likes. It doesn’t matter if said person lives in St. Louis or Santa Monica.

i agree with K… because i’m from california, and I’m definitely insane. I think it’s in the water.

I plan to name my future daughter “Tiny Sparkles in the Sky.” It’s native american for “beautiful.” Then I’m gonna name my son “Tonka Truck Mestopholies.” That translates to “He who is strong but kinda evil.”

Now that I’ve put these names out there I hope no celebrity takes them for their own kids. But I’ve got lots of other ideas in my pocket if anyone needs some good California style names.

She says that but I can’t believe her – her name is Tiffani-with-an-i, and his name is Brady – hardly ‘traditional’ where I am from, the UK.

They may be traditional in the US, and may not have a bearing on their chosen baby name, but I find that statement very hard to take seriously.

I agree that her remark about being from California and her husband from Texas makes them “traditional” was a little weird…but I think what K was trying to get at was that most of the “crazy” names come from celebrities in Hollywood, which of course, is in California. Of course not all celebrities name their children crazy names and not all crazy named kids come from celebrities but I think that’s what she was getting at.

Although it is strange to me that being from California/Texas would make you more traditional…Texas I understand because most people consider the Midwest/South more traditional but the remark about California is a little off…haha

Regardless, good luck to them on choosing a name and I can’t wait to hear it!

I was wondering about that comment, too. What does where you’re from have to do with being a traditional namer? Yes, technically, there are some states and regions where you would more likely find “trendy” names, but that doesn’t mean everyone in that state will give their kids funny sounding names. Apparently, Alaskans (in general) are very “trendy” and “adventurous” namers, for what it’s worth.

Texas I understand because most people consider the Midwest/South more traditional but the remark about California is a little off…haha

I’m not from the States, but I think the South has the worst stereotypes when compared to other regions in the country. ‘Trashy’ names and all.

People who are not from CA have such a warped, distorted view of the state, and that’s largely based on just two areas: Los Angeles/Hollywood and the Bay Area (which encompasses San Francisco, Oakland and Berkley.) The fact is, the seat of the the conservative party for years was (and may well still be, in terms of financial support) Orange County, right here in California. When Prop 8 passed, it was largely due to the areas OUTSIDE the Bay Area and LA/Hollywood. Trust me, the state overall is VERY conservative. I get and understand why there is such a distorted notion of CA but it’s still annoying as h*ll to listen to folks chime in with their stereotypes as a way of laughing at or dismissing the words of people (like Tiffani) who actually are from HERE.
