Gavin Rossdale Says Sons Will Be 'Furry, Cuddly' Dinosaurs For Halloween

Max Butterworth/Louise Barnsley/Bret Thompsett/Pacific Coast News

Halloween will be a family affair this year for Gavin Rossdale and Gwen Stefani. The couple — married since 2002 and parents to Kingston James McGregor, 3, and Zuma Nesta Rock, 14 months — are heading to a party with Gavin dressed as Buzz Lightyear, the kids dressed as “furry, cuddly” dinosaurs and Gwen in a “surprise” costume “that looks incredible — like every other day,” Gavin reports.

From the sound of things, Kingston would have been just as happy to dress as a rock star. “At the last benefit we were at, he wanted to get on stage with me and sing,” Gavin reveals. “He was a little upset with me…I told him we can, but we have to practice a bit first.”

It appears as though Kingston’s love of the stage — and life on the road — began during dad’s recent solo tour. Gavin adds,

“He always wants to come now. During the show, he loves to be on stage on the side. But he loves to play the drums during the sound checks [and] play with my guitar pedals. He likes to check the mic.”

The kids were not in attendance when Gavin played at a charity event held by Richard Branson on Monday evening, however, with Gavin noting that it was “a bit late” for them to be out and about. “We run a tight ship at home,” he explained.

Uma Thurman: 'Parenting Isn't a Sprint – It's a Marathon'

Peter Kramer/AP

Being corrected in public for committing a parenting no-no is the moment every parent dreads, including Uma Thurman. “Oh tons,” she tells BabyCenter of the number of times she’s been the guilty party.”It’s horrible.”

At the same time, the 39-year-old actress admits she’s occasionally been the one doling out the guilt. “I saw this father lifting his kid up by the arm the other day and I thought…’I know that’s why I have lifelong shoulder problems,’” Uma recalls. “Somebody thought it was fun and I probably was laughing, meanwhile for the rest of my life I have to go to the chiropractor.” She adds,

“I bit my lip and thought ‘Don’t say anything’ but then I saw him pick her up again by the arm so I said to him quietly, ‘You know you can cause damage to the rotator cuff accidentally?’ Then I thought, ‘I’m such a creep!’”

Being overly harsh with herself is something Uma acknowledges in the interview, expressing sentiments most moms can relate to. “You feel at times so awful about something going wrong or something you wish you could have done better,” she admits. “I guess I put a lot of pressure on myself, like I’ve ruined everything.”

When she’s feeling overwhelmed, however, Uma says she reminds herself that “parenting isn’t a sprint — it’s a marathon.” She goes on to point out,

“Life is long and all of your unnoticed good efforts also add up to something.”

Listing sleep deprivation — something she calls “a known torture” — as the biggest challenge of motherhood, Uma says that hers began in earnest while still pregnant with Maya Ray, now 11.

“It’s part and parcel of having a child,” she observes. “I never ever slept again after my first pregnancy. And I was a champion sleeper! I could wake up… go back to sleep… wake up … do it again. It was almost like an Olympic sport for me.”

In addition to Maya, Uma is mom to 7 ½-year-old Levon Roan with ex-husband Ethan Hawke.

Uma’s new film Motherhood is in theaters now.

Caught Caring: Rachael Ray and Yum-o

Celebrity Baby Blog – Caught Caring

Teaching kids the importance of healthy eating habits is a priority for most parents, and although Rachael Ray isn’t a mom herself, it’s not stopping her from doing the same. The 41-year-old television chef and talk show host recently kicked off her Yum-o Lunch Program in New York, which partners with the city’s Department of Education to provide tasty and nutritious meals for public school students.

The non-profit organization was founded in 2006 with a stated goal of empowering kids and their families to develop healthy relationships with food and cooking by teaching families to cook, feeding hungry kids and funding cooking education and scholarships.

“[Cooking] helped a lot with my self-esteem and kept me centered and focused through tough times in my life,” Rachael tells the Celebrity Baby Blog.

“It really changed the quality of my life and that’s why I think it’s so important to teach children at a very early age that good food can be fun.”

She adds, “I love being around kids. I like being able to make a change in their lives for the better.”

Yum-o accomplishes its mission with a three-pronged approach: Cook, Feed and Fund.

Kids can visit the Yum-o website to gain tools and resources for making easy, healthy, affordable meals including age-appropriate recipes and tips for the kitchen.

Yum-o partners with organizations such as Share Our Strength (SOS) to make feeding the nation’s hungry children a priority, while also working with organizations throughout the country to raise awareness about and contribute to special projects that address this issue.

Lastly, Yum-o helps kids reach their food-related career goals by funding scholarships and recognizing public schools that are offering food or nutrition programs that incorporate healthy choices.

Rachael — married to lawyer John Cusimano since 2005 — is quick to point out that her organization not only helps others, but herself as well. “[Working with children] helps fill that nurturing need that I think every woman has,” she explains. “It’s very personal to me. It’s my way to have a whole bunch of kids.”

Alicia Minshew: I Knew About Pregnancy Right Away

Courtesy Pregnancy for use on CBB

Summing up the thoughts of many, Alicia Minshew doesn’t mince words when asked by Pregnancy magazine to describe the less than glamorous first trimester.

“In the beginning when I was more bloated with the fluctuation of hormones and all the bread I was eating when I wasn’t nauseated,” she explains, “I just wanted to vomit and sleep.”

Due to deliver a daughter in November, Alicia says she’s known for quite some time that a baby was on the way.

“This is going to sound crazy, but I knew when I conceived,” she explains. “I’m one of those odd people who’s so in tune with my body.”

“I remember having sort of a cramping feeling. I guess they call it the implantation, when the egg is actually implanting. And I remember feeling that and going, I think I’m pregnant.”

A few days later, Alicia got all the proof she needed with a home pregnancy test.

“Of course I sort of smiled and jumped up and down quietly n my bathroom, and then I proceeded to wake my husband up by shoving the stick in his face,” Alicia recalls. “He was like, ‘What is that? Is that yours?’”

After waking up fully, Richie Herschenfeld and Alicia “just started to laugh and hug and kiss,” she shares. “It was such a fun, great morning, the two of us in bed.”

“He said, ‘Well, that’s the best way I’ve ever woken up.’”

Hugh Jackman Dishes on Ava's Halloween Plans

Fame

In a new interview with OK!, Hugh Jackman reveals that 4-year-old Ava Eliot will be extra sweet this Halloween. “My daughter this morning decided she wanted to be a muffin,” the 41-year-old actor shares. “I said, ‘What flavor?’ and she said chocolate chip.”

Hugh’s level of involvement on the big night remains somewhat in question, however. He adds,

“I’m going to be trick-or-treating, but I’ll actually be onstage performing [in A Steady Rain] on Saturday night. I’ll help them get dressed.”

His comments came as Hugh was attending a benefit for the Worldwide Orphans Foundation, which honored Hugh’s wife Deborra-Lee Furness, founder of the child advocacy group Orphan Angels.

Praising Deborra-Lee as a “beautiful, amazing woman,” Hugh says that the couple will always make one-on-one time a priority. “Make sure you have a date night just the two of you together, without the kids,” he advises.

“And don’t be afraid to tell your kids that you have no idea what you’re doing either.”

In addition to Ava, Hugh and Deborra-Lee are parents to Oscar Maximillian, 9.
