Emily Mortimer Says Son 'Mocks' Her English Accent

Scott Kirkland/INF

Even though Emily Mortimer has immigrated to the United States, her accent provides a constant reminder of her native England — much to the chagrin of her 6-year-old son Samuel John!

“[He] mocks me every time I open my mouth,” the 37-year-old actress tells the UK’s Psychologies magazine. “He talks with an American accent, which I don’t mind, but I do resent him taking the piss out of mine!”

When she’s in need of a reminder of her late father, however, Emily says that she need look no further than Sam himself. She explains,

“If someone is boring him he’ll give this little look, exactly like Dad. It’s very comforting. I wish they could have had longer than five years together.”

In the interview, Emily — due in January with her second child — recalls her labor and delivery with Sam.

Even though she’d “never been averse to any kind of medication,” Emily says she was “brainwashed” into believing that “you have to go natural in order to be a real woman.”

With that mindset in place, she started reading books on natural childbirth, taking a yoga class, hired a doula and purchased a water tank — but her efforts were all in vain. “[I] struggled on for 24 hours — and then I had an epidural,” she reveals.

“I can remember saying to the anaesthetist, ‘Oh, I love you, thank you so much. I don’t know what I was thinking. I’ve always loved drugs. I’ve never been known to turn a drug down!’”

Sam is Emily’s son with husband Alessandro Nivola.

Cole Hamels on the 'Best Cop Ride' of His Life

Tom Walck/PR Photos

It’s not every day that an expectant father receives a police escort to the hospital, but that’s what happened last Thursday for Cole Hamels. The 25-year-old Philadelphia Phillies pitcher learned during Game 2 of the National League Division Series matchup with the Colorado Rockies that wife Heidi Strobel had gone into labor, and his busy day got even busier.

After quickly showering at the ballpark, Cole — who was arrested after a bar fight in Clearwater, Fla. in 2005 — hopped in a squad car for the ride to Lankenau Hospital in Philadelphia. “That was the best cop ride I’ve ever been a part of, when I wasn’t in the back,” he quipped this week. “That was pretty exciting on the streets of Philadelphia.”

His thoughts en route were a whirlwind, the former World Series MVP admits.

“When I’m on the field, I’m all about baseball. Then . . . after I was done, getting that call, the excitement level starts up. But still, I think you’re just more nervous about the situation. You don’t know what’s going on.”

Heidi delivered the couple’s first child — son Caleb Michael — the next day, and Cole says baby boy’s arrival was worth the wait.

“I didn’t know what to expect, what to think, but it was just the most joyous moment I could be a part of.”

Tina Fey Shares Alice's Halloween Costume Ideas

Evan Agostini/AP

Halloween takes on a decidedly different tone as toddlers turn into preschoolers, and it’s a phenomenon Tina Fey knows all too well. The 30 Rock star said during a Wednesday appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman that daughter Alice Zenobia, 4, has begun to voice an opinion on what she’ll dress up as on October 31st.

Noting that when they’re babies “you can just stuff them in” whatever you want — “You’re going to be a ham sandwich! We’re all going to laugh at you,” Tina quips — not so with Alice this year, who has her costume choices narrowed down to two: a “Barbie butterfly princess” or a “robot that eats bacon.” Tina adds,

“So naturally I’m trying to play it cool…I want her to be a robot that eats bacon but I’m trying not to push it too much. ‘You could eat bacon the whole night!’”

As for Alice’s affection for Barbie, Tina, 39, says that it was recently muddled somewhat by an Internet advertisement.

“I was on my computer and there was a photo ad for The Girls Next Door, about Hugh Hefner and his girlfriends,” Tina recalls. “My daughter came running over and said, ‘Mommy, what are those Barbies? Can I get those?’”

Alice is Tina’s only child with husband Jeff Richmond.

Lori Loughlin Stays Local For Daughters' Sake

David Longendyke/Globe

Signing on to 90210 was an easy decision for Lori Loughlin, starting with the zip code itself! “I really won’t work outside of the state of California,” she tells WorkingMother.com. “I certainly wouldn’t do it for a TV series, because I would not be away from my children. I couldn’t do that.”

Those children — Isabella Rose, 11, and Olivia Jade, 10 — have seen their lives go on largely uninterrupted in the wake of mom’s new gig, Lori shares. “Usually there’s enough down time for me to be with my girls,” the 45-year-old actress says.

“Having young children, that is a plus for me because I can be involved in their school activities and I can volunteer my time up at school. I can be there to take them to soccer practice, and I’m home at night to make dinner and help them with their homework. That’s all very important to me and this job allows me to be able to do that.”

There will always be exceptions, of course, and Lori says that “like all working moms” she battles feelings of guilt. “I have the days where, it’s my child’s birthday but I’m called into work that day and I can’t get snack up to school,” she explains, “or there’s a conflict between something that my child is doing and work schedule.”

Husband Mossimo Giannulli often can be counted on to “pick up the slack” when those situations arise, however. Lori reveals,

“My daughter was on the school basketball team last year and there were a couple of games that I just couldn’t make it to because I had to work. But I’m very lucky in the sense that if I can’t be there, my husband always can. So if both of us can’t be there, one of us will be there.”
