Marcia Cross Says Twins Choose 'Boring' Clothes

Frederico Allende/Broadimage

It’s in the genes! Marcia Cross said during a Friday appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that her own understated style has been adopted by 2 ½-year-old twin daughters Eden and Savannah.

Calling herself “a terrible dresser” when left to fend for herself — “everything you see [me in] is made up from somebody else,” she explains — Marcia was hoping the lack of fashion sense would be limited to mom, only.

“I thought maybe these girls will have a little something going on,” she explains. “So I was like, ‘Whatever you want to wear…’”

While the girls opted not to dress themselves alike, they also opted not to dress themselves with much pizzazz! Says Marcia,

“I have one who will only wear navy blue from head to toe — that’s Savannah, who we call Savvy. Socks, underwear, leggings, shirt and navy blue ties in her hair. Eden will only wear a green shirt and black pants. It looks like I’m a really boring dresser and now I dress my kids that way, but truthfully it was [their] choice!”

Eden and Savannah are Marcia’s children with husband Tom Mahoney.

Forest Whitaker: 'I'm Not a Tough Love Guy'

Johns PkI/Splash News Online

For his latest film Where the Wild Things Are, Forest Whitaker had an advantage when it came to preparing for his role; He reveals that the children’s book has been a favorite in his house for generations.

“It’s sort of been handed down in my family because it was read to me when I was a kid,” he tells PARADE. “I read it to all my kids and now they read it on their own.”

The extra bit of studying certainly paid off! “The grunts and stuff I’ve done at home with my kids,” the Academy Award-winning actor shares.

“When they were younger, I’d do it a lot when I’d read them the book. They loved the scary parts.”

And while he may have perfected his character Ira’s quirks, Forest admits his bark is far worse than his bite when it comes to his own kids. “I’m not a tough love guy,” he says.

Instead, he gladly turns over that responsibility to his “much stronger” wife, Keisha Whitaker. “They come to me when they’re trying to slip something by,” he muses.

“I have to always take a pause when they come and say, ‘Hey Dad, is it okay if we do this?’ So I just look at them like, ‘Have you talked to your mom about that?’ They know I’m the easy one.”

Together Forest and Keisha have daughters True Isabella Summer, 11, and Sonnet Noel, 13, while Keisha has daughter Autumn, 18, and Forest has son Ocean, 19, from previous relationships. Where the Wild Things Are is now in theaters.

Trista Sutter: Bikini After Two Babies

Trista Sutter can easily run through all the ways in which her second pregnancy was different from her first. For starters, “as I think any woman who has been through multiple pregnancies can attest, your body just knows where the fat goes!” she says.

Then there was having to squeeze gym workouts around her 2-year-old son Maxwell Alston‘s schedule, not to mention “just being exhausted.” By the time daughter Blakesley Grace arrived in April, the 5’2″ Trista had gained 43 lbs., to get her to 153 lbs. “I saw that number,” she says, “and was like, ‘Oh, God – how am I going to lose it?’”

The answer: lots and lots of exercise, including daily 45-minute walks with the kids, as well as strength routines with a personal trainer three times a week. And while the former Bachelorette star didn’t avoid any foods, she kept rigorous track of her portions with Web site mycalorienumber.com, to keep her caloric intake to 1,750 a day.

Now, at 107 lbs., “my stomach is still a little poochy,” she says. “But I am proud of myself!”

Reese Witherspoon on Raising Kids Away from Home

Courtesy InStyle

As a transplanted Southerner living in California, Reese Witherspoon admits that she misses the creature comforts of home.

“L.A. is where my job is and I have to be close, but I never imagined that my children wouldn’t grow up next door to my brother’s children, or my mom and dad wouldn’t constantly be around,” the 33-year-old actress tells the November issue of InStyle. “You know, I had dinner every night with my grandparents as a kid, so I think missing out on that is a hard compromise.”

Fortunately, Reese says that she and daughter Ava Elizabeth, 10, and Deacon Reese, turning 6 this week, have found a little slice of home in Hollywood. “I have a lot of Southern friends in L.A.; I gravitate toward them,” she explains. “I think of those people as a part of my family: They take care of me and I take care of them.”

In the interview, Reese concedes that she sometimes struggles to balance her career with the demands of being a single mom-of-two. “I love my life without work and I love my life with work,” she says.

It was Reese’s own mom who recently gave her clarity on the topic, however, when Reese was feeling stressed about working a 15-hour day. “She was like, ‘Yeah, but think of it as a part-time job,’” Reese recalls. “And I thought, that’s actually right, it puts it in perspective.”

“I work incredibly hard for three months, but then I get a break. It’s about really enjoying my time off. Where do I relax the most? Where are my children happiest? My ideal scenario is to do one movie a year. But as an actor, I don’t think you can do an awful lot of planning. In fact, my new philosophy in life is I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it.”

Her divorce from actor Ryan Phillippe was no doubt tough, but Reese says it taught her the importance of living in the moment. “You reconsider certain things, but you have to keep going,” she notes. “You have to keep it together for your kids and for yourself, too.”

When she finds some downtime, Reese says she enjoys working out with girlfriends. “It’s an acquired skill, being able to discuss your love life, children and friends — all while running,” she jokes. “But we have mastered it.”

The kids are just as active as mom, Reese shares. “When [Ava] and Deacon get home from school, it’s more about gymnastics, horseback riding, karate or whatever.” Her daughter will also “sometimes” raid mom’s closet, Reese says!

“She’s almost as tall as me — it’s getting scary.”

P'kolino's Comfy Little Reader Sofa

P’kolino Little Reader Sofa

I love the idea of having child-size seating for my toddlers to cozy up on while reading. And the P’kolino Little Reader Sofa ($98) is a great option. The long size is perfect for two or more little ones which encourages shared reading. And the super soft, stain resistant faux-suede is both luxurious and easy to clean. Plus the mini sofa sports two side pockets — perfect for stashing extra books.

And if your kids really want to relax, it unfolds to create a comfy sleeper. We admit it’s not a cheap buy, but if you have more than one little reader in your house it could come in handy. And the well-made construction ensures it will go the distance. The sofa also comes in red.
