Celebrity Makeup Artist Bobbi Brown (and Her Father) Debut Inspirational Kids Book

Scholastic, Scott Gries/PictureGroup

Proving that it’s never too late to make a dream come true, Joe Brown — dad to famed makeup artist Bobbi Brown — has just published his first children’s book, at the age of 74.

Having spent his entire adult life as an attorney, Joe might be new to the genre, but he’s been telling the tale of Marceau for decades. Now Marceau — a New York City cab driver who treats passengers to fun-filled tales of adventure — has come to life in The Flights of Marceau: Race to the Rescue ($9).

Published by Scholastic and illustrated by Stephen Marchesi, the book is familiar territory for Bobbi as well. “I grew up listening to these wonderful bedtime stories that my father had written,” she explains. “I am very proud of my father and his new book, and am so happy to celebrate him and his work.”

In The Flights of Marceau: Race to the Rescue, Marceau leaps into action when a collection of zoo animals are left stranded by a hurricane. Together, he and the animals work together to save the day. The book — first in a planned series — also contains rhyming text and a glossary. To purchase, click here.

Diane Keaton: Dexter Couldn't Be More Different From Mom

Courtesy More for use on CBB

In the cover story for the November issue of MORE magazine, mom-of-two Diane Keaton talks openly about forgoing a relationship to instead focus on family and career.

“I’m free to do what I want to try to do,” she notes. ‘I don’t have to worry that I’m not living up to some responsibility as a partner to somebody else.”

Daughter Dexter, 13, sees things a bit differently however! “It’s [all about] boys right now,” Diane, 63, shares, asking “Could she be more different from me?”

“She goes to them, talks to them. She makes the dates. It’s refreshing, not waiting for someone to pick you. Which seems to be the story of my life regarding men and being an actress.”

The interview was conducted at the Plaza Hotel in New York City, which coincidentally is the place Diane was first introduced to her son Duke, 8, during the adoption process. “Isn’t it great, that we’re here in this historic place that I love?” she asks the interviewer.

Like most moms, Diane admits that downtime is hard to come by. “I don’t really relax much,” she says.

“I can’t go and nap, ever. I’m not interested in relaxing until I hit the sack, and then it’s like [crash noise]. I wouldn’t know what to do with a week off. Except for one little area, m-e-n, I’m excited, I’m ready to go, sign me up.”

Laila Ali 'Loving Every Minute' of Motherhood

Brian Doben for PEOPLE for use on CBB

When it comes to family planning, Laila Ali has a definite idea of when she’d like to make son Curtis Muhammad Conway Jr., 14 months next week, a big brother — and CJ has a big part in the equation as well.

“I’m going to have another [baby] but I’m going to have to wait until he is potty trained, so he can hand me a Pamper for the baby,” she quipped to Celebrity Baby Blog during The Noble Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Oct. 18.

Laila went on to share that her own dad Muhammad Ali hasn’t dispensed much parenting advice — “I’m sure he’d do it over if he could,” she said — but from the sound of things, she doesn’t need any. Says Laila of CJ,

“Oh my God, he’s walking and running and acting wild. Loving it, loving every minute of it!”

CJ is Laila’s first child with husband Curtis Conway.

Taye Diggs Ponders the Placenta Pill

AP/Courtesy of Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs

While many parents-to-be spend months preparing for baby’s arrival by attending a long list of recommended classes — Taye Diggs and his wife Idina Menzel included — the Private Practice actor admits he still wasn’t exactly ready when the big day arrived!

“It got rough at moments because you have no idea [about] the sounds your wife is going to make,” Taye explains during a Thursday night visit to Jimmy Kimmel Live.

“There were moments when I had to excuse myself and just take a deep breath, but at the end of the day I was there and I was a cheerleader and we worked it out.”

Fortunately, when Taye found himself needing a minute to recoup, Idina was able to rely heavily on a doula. “She was just there for Idina,” he says. Having coached the couple in a series of classes prior to delivery day, Taye admits the doula was happy to offer a few last-minute reminders during the labor.

“She basically told us everything that was going to happen before it was going to happen because regardless of all the books that you read, for me personally, when I’m in the moment, I forgot everything.”

Once Walker Nathaniel was safely delivered and dad had cut the cord, the couple’s attention was redirected toward baby boy’s placenta — the doula inquired as to whether the new parents planned on taking advantage of what it had to offer.

“She asked us if we wanted the placenta afterwards, because there are crazy nutrients,” Taye recalls. “During one of the classes, very casually, she said, ‘We can make the placenta into tablets you can take each day.’ And I look at my wife, ‘Are you crazy?’”

For Idina — who showed interest in the pills and had them made — the unique opportunity was no laughing matter, leaving Taye to ponder the placenta’s final fate.

“My wife was serious, she wanted to be prepared on every front. I’ve been afraid to ask her [if she's been taking them].”

As for baby boy’s name, Taye reveals the moniker is in honor of author Alice Walker and not Walker, Texas Ranger, before adding that the name isn’t likely to become a problem in the school yard. “Me and my wife figured out that by the time he was old enough for kids to make fun — he’d be like 5, 6, maybe 7 or 8 — no one’s going to know who Walker, Texas Ranger is,” he states.

And while the couple may have easily agreed upon their son’s name, the upcoming Halloween holiday has left Idina and Walker’s nanny at odds with Taye!

“I have concerns because he’s a little dude and I don’t want him to be dressed up like a little sunflower. I want him to be as masculine as he can be at [seven] weeks.”
