Madonna: 'Life Is an Adjustment'

Courtesy Rolling Stone

Working out a custody arrangement in the wake of a divorce is difficult, but even more so when parents live on different continents. Madonna notes as much in a recent interview with Rolling Stone, conceding that things are “different” now for sons Rocco John, 9, and David Banda, 4 — who split their time between mom’s home and dad Guy Ritchie‘s house in England — and daughters Lourdes Maria, 13, and Mercy James, 3 ½, who are with the 51-year-old pop icon in New York City. She adds,

“Life is an adjustment. My sons aren’t with me right now, they’re with their father, and I’m not very comfortable with the idea of my children not living together. There are pros and cons, but I feel good now.”

Calling David her “biggest fan,” Madonna reveals that his devotion is on full display during her current world tour. “Everybody says that when he watches [my concerts] he stays frozen from beginning to end, and he studies everything, and he knows every dance step.” While she feels that David is “not jaded” like Lourdes and Rocco, Madonna’s older children are still fans of her music.

“Lourdes likes all my old songs. She’s really into the Eighties, from the way she dresses to the music she listens to. Rocco likes anything that I did with Timbaland. Basically, he’s a hip-hop and electronica boy.”

Quipping that her house “is like a Benetton ad,” Madonna says she “wouldn’t have it any other way.” Noting that “the more diverse the world you live in, the more open you are,” adopting Mercy and David from Africa has opened her eyes and provided “a new perspective on the world.”

“I have French nannies, my security guards are Israeli, I have assistants from Argentina and Puerto Rico as well as a Japanese assistant and chef, and another chef from Italy. It’s wonderful. I love it… My life is a cacophony of different languages and music.”

Caught Caring: Joan Cusack, Cookies for Kids' Cancer and Glad

Celebrity Baby Blog – Caught Caring

Pediatric cancer is the leading cause of death by disease for children under the age of 18, killing more kids than asthma, diabetes, cystic fibrosis and AIDS combined. Each day, 36 children will be diagnosed. There has not been a new drug developed specifically for pediatric cancer treatment in nearly 20 years, and survival rates for pediatric cancers continue to lag behind most adult cancers.

The numbers alarm the mom in all of us — including Joan Cusack, herself a mom-of-two. To that end, she has partnered with Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, a national non-profit organization committed to raising funds for pediatric cancer research.

How they go about accomplishing their goal is straightforward, simple, and something you’ve probably already done: They bake!

Organize, plan and promote a bake sale for your office or at a high-traffic location in your neighborhood, and don’t forget to recruit your friends and co-workers! Then register your sale with Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, and when it’s over send your profits to their headquarters in New Jersey.

It’s an easy, grassroots effort having a direct impact on the fight against pediatric cancer and now that impact can be doubled. During the months of November and December, the Glad Products Company will match all funds raised by Cookies for Kids’ Cancer up to $100,000.

What’s more, since sellers rely on Glad products to keep their treats fresh and delicious the company has also agreed to provide a free package of GladWare for each registered bake sale.

Cookies for Kids’ Cancer does a great job of walking you  through a four-step process for ensuring that your sale will be a success, providing tools like a sample press release, a permission to use location letter, and even a donation jar sign. If you’re looking for baking inspiration, peruse their selection of recipes and menu ideas; If you’re hopeless in the kitchen but hopeful that organization can make a difference, you can also make a secure monetary donation by clicking here.

Joan — who will take part in the Cookie Stop bake sale in New York City on Nov. 10 — is mom to Dylan John, 12, and Miles, 9, with husband Dick Burke.

Minnie Driver on Motherhood: 'It Feels Like Christmas'

Fame

When it comes to the emotions surrounding motherhood “you can’t know until you have it,” according to Minnie Driver. “It just blows your mind,” she says in a new interview with CinemaBlend.com. “It’s so extraordinary.”

The 39-year-old actress admits that the “unquantifiable love” she feels for son Henry Story, 13 months, did come as somewhat of a surprise. “It just takes my breath away,” Minnie says.

“My son’s face in the morning, or if I hear him ‘Mama, Mama, Mama’ and I go and he’s just sitting there in his crib, in the dark cause, you know, often he wakes up early it’s still dark outside. When I turn the lights on he’s like ‘Mama!’ And it’s just, it feels like Christmas.”

Her enthusiasm about making movies while pregnant with Henry is a different story entirely! She filmed Motherhood at 7 ½ months along in a New York City heatwave, a decision she says in retrospect was not the wisest;  When the shoot ran longer than expected, Minnie recalls making a tearful phone call to her own mom.

“I was like, ‘I just [gasp] want to go home and iron [gasp] onesies. I just want to do laundry Mom,’” she explains. “She was laughing and she goes ‘You’ll have plenty of time to do laundry, love. Don’t worry. There’s loads coming.’”

Although she “did want to be nesting,” Minnie says she harbors no regrets about making the movie.

“I’m glad I did it. I just think, I said before, when you’re — the greater part, in fact, the whole of my adult working life has been chronicled on film and this, I didn’t want this part to be an exception. I’m really glad that I made it selfishly just to have him, you know, for my own history.”

When asked whether she’d be receptive to Henry someday pursuing a similar career path, Minnie laughs. “I would say good luck!”

“Good luck and I’ll always cook for you when you’re totally broke.”

Motherhood is in select cities Friday.

Rachel Weisz and Darren Aronofsky Stroll With Son

Humberto Carreno/Startraks

What a sweet-looking little boy!

Rachel Weisz and her fiancé, director Darren Aronofsky, were snapped strolling with son Henry Chance, 3, in New York City on Monday.

The actress, 39, recently said she doesn’t mind the occasional paparazzi photograph.

“Sometimes the paparazzi … trickle onto my street, take a few pictures of me and disappear, but I never feel hounded. I am really not on that level of fame. I go on the subway. I walk Henry to school.”

Next up for Rachel? The film version of the book The Lovely Bones, due out in December.
