NASCAR's Carl Edwards Expecting First Child, a Girl

 alt= Albert Michael/Startraks

It was love at first sight for NASCAR driver Carl Edwards! Announcing that he and his wife Kate are expecting their first child — a girl — in mid-February, the proud papa-to-be admits the couple’s first ultrasound visit tugged at his heartstrings.

“I had seen all the pictures of what the baby was supposed to look like,” he explains.

“It was sitting there, and all of the sudden then she started moving, and I almost passed out. It was just wild.”

With Kate’s due date coinciding with 2010′s season opening race, Carl jokes that the pair couldn’t have scheduled it any better! “Perfect timing, we’ll call her Daytona,” he laughs.

Carl and Kate will celebrate their one-year anniversary on January 3rd.

I actually think the name “Daytona” would be very cute for a girl. I know he was probably just being funny, but seriously, that would be a pretty cool name.

Congrats to Carl and Kate. I have always like Carl Edwards, such a nice guy. Sheilz, Its funny, my mom had a cat show up on the back porch during this year’s Daytona 500, so we named her Daytona.

Congratulations to Carl and Kate. I’m sure she’ll be a beauty.

Something must be in the water at Roush Fenway Racing. First Matt, now Carl. I think Jamie McMurray’s next.
