soft cheeses and deli meats are *VERY* dangerous during the 3rd trimester of pregnancy especially…believe me, I know and found out too late. June 23rd, 2007 I gave birth to a beautiful, perfect baby girl that died 25 mins. after delivery. We had no clue why they couldn’t get her to breathe until they did the autopsy and found my baby’s lungs and liver were full of Listeria. After this discovery I was seen by an Infectious Disease doctor and we discovered I had it as well and my liver was enlarged from it. I had never heard of Listeria before, and this was my 3rd baby and I ate no different with that pregnancy than the others, but Olivia died because of a food borne illness. Now, when ever I see someone pregnant about to eat soft cheese or deli meat, I tell them about my sweet baby girl that died due to my ignorance to what Listeria is and what causes it.

Oh my goodness, Shea, I’m so sorry to hear of your loss! I was vigilant about not eating anything that could have been even slightly unsafe while I was pregnant. A lot of people thought I was being ridiculous about it, but I could never have knowingly done something risky. It’s definitely good of you to educate other women about your experience.
