Melanie Brown and Family: Bowler Bonding

Sporting blue jeans and matching smiles, former Spice Girl Melanie Brown steps out on October 3 with husband Stephen Belafonte and daughters Phoenix Chi, 10 ½, and Angel Iris, 2 ½.

The family-of-four made their way to the Lucky Strike Bowling Lanes in Hollywood, Calif., where more good times were undoubtedly had.

Phoenix is Melanie’s daughter with ex-husband Jimmy Gulzar; Angel is her daughter with ex-boyfriend Eddie Murphy.

What a nice photo! Melanie looks great. What a figure for a mom of two!

- Xan on

What an gorgeous picture. Everyone’s beaming! And I love Angel’s hairstyle, what a beautiful child.

- Amanda on

What a beautiful family. The smallest kid is just adorable but all are beautiful.

- Ellen on

I really ♥ this family. It’s wonderful that even though Stephen isn’t the biological father of Angel he has stepped in and been the man/father that both girls need and want. I comment him and Mel B for their continued dedication to the well-being and happiness of their family. Biology is sometimes just that. It doesn’t mean anything if you aren’t there for your child. Stephen and Seal both show us everyday the real meaning of being a father whether the child is biologically yours or not.

- I♥CBB on

Oops! I meant to say I commend him.

- I♥CBB on

I enjoy seeing pics of this family. She was on of my pregnant celeb-buddies!
Thought the mowhawk was cute when they first did it. I hope they grow it out soon. I wonder how long they’ll keep it for?

- Christine on

Why would you do that to a little girl’s hair? Gorgeous little thing but the mowhawk looks awful.

- Blondiebear on

omg it annoys me so much when ppl bash someone, especially when they have to control over that person. if angel likes the mohawk thats to bad for ppl who dont “approve” or w.e! she looks awesome! :)

- Tina. on

Angel looks so happy!

- Erin on

I wonder if her and Stephen will ever have a child between them. He seems to be so doting, it’d be nice to seem them with 4 kids(he has a daughter as well).

- Electra on

Thay all look happy. Maybe daddy bowled a 300.

- baby carriers backpacks on

Angel has the best facial expressions. she looks like she has a LOT of character and personality, and fun to be around.

- sami on

Doesn’t Stephen also has a daughter? You should mention her, because they aren’t a family-of-four, but a family of five, with one kid missing.

- Steph on

What a great picture! Mel, you look great, and Phoenix looks more and more like you every day! Angel is simply precious, and it’s obvious that Stephen loves being a father! Such a happy family!!! :D

- Brianne on

Angel is a gorgeous girl…too bad her mohawk makes her look more like a boy! But I’m not judging… she looks happy. I wonder if she will be mad at her mom for cutting her hair that way when she gets older tho, lol :)

- urbanadventurertales on

I thought Angel was a boy at first!

- mary on

What is important in this picture is how happy the family looks.

- Kitty on

Oookkkay…why would you do this to a child’s hair? Boy or girl??

- Lisa on

What a beautiful family! I’m glad to see that after everything, Angel has an adoring father in her life.

On a side note, I love Angel’s shoes!

- Liliana on

Funny how long hair on a boy is a no no but this style on a girl is acceptable. Whatever, it isn’t my child. I do have to say they are ALL quite stunning and I would love to be built like Melanie.

- BELLE on

Man, does it really matter that the little girl has a mohawk? Maybe she loves it! Maybe she said “mama, I want my hair to look like that.” In any case, all that matters is how happy the family look together, and they seem to be enjoying their time together. How good for them.

- Jane on

What a shame Eddie Murphy has chosen to have nothing to do with that beautiful girl! Look at her face, she looks like a real character who would have brought a lot of joy into his life.
Oh well, his loss is Stephen’s gain!

- Sadie on

Anyone know where I can get the tee that Phoenix is wearing?

Reminds me of my own daughter and she would love it!

Thanks to anyone who responds!

- Molly on

Lisa – Open your eyes. It clearly reads “daughters”. :-)

- Hea on

Hea….

FYI…you might need to read a little better yourself because Lisa wasn’t asking if Angel was a boy or girl…she was asking WHY anyone would to that hairstyle on a BOY or GIRL!!!

- SB on

Are you sure, SB? Boy or girl is posted as a separated question after all.

“Oookkkay…why would you do this to a child’s hair? Boy or girl??”

- Hea on

What a happy looking family!

- Chris on

Why do we always have to end every story about Mel B and Angel with “Eddie Murphy is Angel’s father.” Eddie’s lack of concern for Mel and Angel makes him nothing more than a sperm donor. On the other hand we have Stephen who is obviously a fun loving, hands on, constant in her life. HE is her father.

- sarawara on

Hea, she was asking why anyone would do that to ANY kids hair, regardless of gender.

- J on

Okay, I thought she was asking about Angels gender to mark her point. Sorry for the misunderstanding then.

Sarawara – I agree. To call Eddie her “father” is a real mockery.

- Hea on

The expression on Angel’s face is adorable. I agree she looks like she has a spunky little personality! Maybe one day she will look back at pictures and laugh, not be mad. I had gorgeous long blond hair growing up until about 2nd grade when my older sister got her hair cut and I wanted mine to look like hers. Turns out the “cool” hairstyle we had is what is now known as a mullet and I laugh whenever I see pictures of myself!

- Kristi on

She’s a cute little kid and personally my choice would not be to mohawk my child’s hair (regardless of gender). I don’t think it looks cute on a little girl at all (just my opinion – I’m not bashing them for their choices – their kid – their choice).

I used to have really long hair when I was little and my mom didn’t have the patience for my fussing when she tried to braid it – so she had it all cut off. Maybe this style is easier for them both for now. :)

- Hayley_B on

I don’t care if people bash me or not, but a mohawk is ugly for a boy or girl! I bet you she would not give her older daughter that haircut. There is nothing wrong with girls with short hair, but that is UGLY!

- Bela on

People can be so judgmental here.

I’m 21 years old, I go to an Ivy League school, and I have a mohawk.

And I’m a girl.

Who cares? She’s a little girl. My mom always cut my hair how I wanted it when I was younger, I bet Angel wanted her hair like that, or maybe she saw someone with a mohawk and liked it so Mel cut her hair into a mohawk.

We don’t know the circumstances so it’s not right to judge.

- Kelsa on

Hey Kelsa,

I don’t think it’s being judgmental to have an opinion :)

I’m not saying they’re wrong for doing it – whatever choice they make for their child is just that – their choice.

All I’m saying is that it’s not a choice I’d make for my little girl – even if she wanted it. Nor for my little boy. When they’re old enough – they can wear their hair however they like! :)

- Hayley_B on

Sarawara, I agree, but they’re just stating the facts (about the “father”), we all know he has nothing to do with her!

- Natasha on

Hayley, my comment wasn’t directed at you, what you said was tempered and fair, it was at Bela who called it UGLY.

Who calls a two year old’s hair ugly?

And I think 2 is old enough to make that decision. It’s only hair.

- Kelsa on

I hate the hairstyle on her, but she is adorable nonetheless and it is just a hairstyle afterall.

I saw Chris Rock’s documentary “Good Hair” yesterday and Pepa from Salt N Pepa talked about how the haristyle that she made famous in the late 80s (one side of the head shaved and the other side long…much like Cassie’s hair now) was a result of a very bad relaxer. I’ve always thought that Angel’s hairstyle is probably a result of her getting gum in her hair or her getting ahold of some scissors. My mom told me once how she cut off one of her long ponytails when she was little. Of course I don’t know this for sure, but I just don’t think that Mel B one day decided to shave her daughter’s head unless she had a good reason for doing so. I think it was a result of her making lemonade out of lemons. But regardless, she is such a lovely little girl and seems to be always smiling (atleast lately). Guess the hairstyle doesn’t stop her from being happy.

The entire family looks great.

- RibbonInTheSky on

Hea – I took Lisa’s comment to read the same way as SB took it. She is not asking if she’s a boy or girl, she’s asking why anyone would do that to a kid….boy or girl and I agree….I think it’s horrible, BUT not my kid. I do think she is adorable though and I agree…she looks like she has so much personality.

I cannot believe how snarky people are getting on this site. It is getting really bad. We’re all adults and we bark at each other like kids.

- Becky on

Kelsa, why did you feel the need to say you went to an Ivy League school. Does that make your haircut nicer? No, I think mohawks are ugly, on a little girl or little boy, and on adults. Does that mean the people who are wearing them are ugly, no. I think she is a cute little girl, but I hate her haircut. Everyone has their own opnion, and that is mine. You might not like mine haircut either, but that’s ok. You are an adult, and you can choose how you want to cut your hair. But at two, her mother choose that for her. She is not old enough to have a say in her hair. At two we cut our kids hair the way we want it.

- Bela on

Angel looks so cute and yes its her choice to have the mohawk but it does look horrible she looks like a boy, she also looks alot like her dad Eddy. If my child said they wanted a mohawk i would buy her a doll and put a mohawk on that and she can carry that around. other than that they are a beautiful family and I love the name Phoenix

- Jen on

Bela- How do you know Angel didn’t have a say in the haircut. I read a rumor somewhere that she is a fan of Rihanna, and asked for that haircut after she saw a picture of Rihanna with it. Even if that’s not the case, kids Angel’s age can certainly have input into their appearence.

For example, Suri Cruise was Angel’s age when Tom said last year that she refuses to wear pants. And Heidi and Seal’s son Henry (I think it was Henry, anyway. It might have been Johan) went through a superhero phase last year….which he was 2 for a good chunk of (his birthday is in September). I highly doubt Heidi and Seal chose to dress him in superhero costumes!

Also, it’s very possible that Angel’s haircut is the result of damage control that had to be done after she got gum in her hair or got hold of Stephen’s razor or something.

- CelebBabyLover on

The point I am trying to make is…Why the assumption that the haircut was completely, 100 percent Mel’s choice?

- CelebBabyLover on

What saddens me is that I thought Angel was Stephen’s son due to the style of hair and dress. I know Mel B has two daughters, but Angel doesn’t look like a girl to me and not knowing anything about Stphen I assumed it was his boy. I’m not saying it is right or wrong for a kid to have that hairstyle, I’m just saying if the photo was by itself how many of you would genuinely of known it was a little girl? Angel is 2 1/2….If my son had wanted to wear his hair in bunches with pink ribbons at that age I wouldn’t of allowed it!

- Donna on

I love Angel’s hair. She’s totally rocking it.

- Terri on

omg, such a cute family photo!

Love Angel, the hair isn’t something I would do for my daughter, but she is so cute and obviously thinks she looks fab, kind of like when my daughters dress themselves haha.

- Mary-Helen on

She probably got hold of a pair of scissors and thought she was her own hair dresser many little kids do that I know I did it when I was little. and maybe instead of them shaving it to fix it they did a stylish thing even tho i dont like it we have no real idea of why they cut her hair like this

- Jen on

Seriously Bela.

Who calls a two year old’s hair ugly? I might not like your hair, but I would never tell you it’s ugly and the fact that you go online and say something so harsh about a child is what I have a problem with.

And two years olds are pretty developed with emotional, social, and reasoning skills. Blaming Mel and saying she chose it for her daughter is ridiculous. I bet Angel has a lot of say in what she wants; she looks like a spunky, opinionated kid.

- Kelsa on

SUPER cute family!

(Mohawk or no mohawk.)
:)

- Galen.JeLisa on

Kelsa, are you saying that nobody every thinks or mutters anything bad about how others look in public? Cmon…

There are the people online who are just plain nasty, and then you have the people online who pretend they do no wrong ever.
