David Boreanaz Says Photo Inspired Daughter's Name

Baxter/ABACA

As suspected, Bardot Vita — 4-week-old daughter of actor David Boreanaz and wife Jaime Bergman — was, indeed, inspired by Brigitte Bardot.

During a recent appearance on Live with Regis and Kelly, the 40-year-old Bones star said that it was actually a Douglas Kirkland photograph of the famed actress that reeled him in, a mere two weeks prior to Bardot’s August 31st birth. “It was the energy,” David revealed. “The essence of that photograph kind of got me moved. It hit me hard.”

Life with baby girl continues to go smoothly for the newfound dad-of-two, who said that he is in charge of the night feedings. “I just go to the refrigerator and eat,” he jokes. “Usually, it’s the ice cream that I finish off.” Of Bardot, he adds,

“She doesn’t do much but sleep, eat, poop. Not always in that order. Sometimes poop, eat, sleep. It all depends.”

Also earning high marks is David and Jaime’s firstborn, 7-year-old Jaden Rayne. “He was the big hero,” the proud papa reports. “He was the kid that kind of took on the [attitude of], ‘Hey, I’m here, I wanna help out.’”

“He’s fantastic. Talk about someone who is excited and nervous about someone else coming into the fold, and he really took the whole experience on, and said, you know what? I’m tackling it. I want to help out. He’s great.”

Thanks for the update on this beautiful family! It’s adorable how proud David is of his wife and children.

- Shelly on

Nice story, but I wouldn’t be very proud of naming my daughter after a racist misanthopist actress.

- Anon on

that’s a nice enough story and all, but why name your child after an outspoken racist? just because a photo of her was physically beautiful and alluring?
wow, one day this child will look her up and wonder why her parents chose to name her that.
ugly name anyway, regardless of the meaning behind it. i hope she chooses to go by something completely different.

- nks on

I agree with the above. I live in France. Bardot says things that make uncomfortable !

- Jo Ann v. on

Wow, I thought there’d be the typical “say something nice or say nothing at all” backlash, and am so glad there isn’t! Brigitte Bardot was a stunner in her day, but what a vile individual. Vita is lovely, perhaps she can go by that.

- crimpe on

Wow, I don’t like the name in itself but I thought the woman was criticizing animal treatment in some cultures, not being outwardly racist? anyway I don’t want to get into the debate as I know very little about it. But I saw it on French TV a few weeks ago and that’s what was said.

I think no matter how weird a name is you get used to it, your friends too when they know you, and it doesn’t really matter. It’s just when you meet new people that youhave to say it twice, maybe spell it, then it’s okay. She is healthy and loved by all her family, that’s the most important.

- Alice on

I agree, Crimpe.

Glad to see the family settling into life with their little girl.

- Liliana on

Alice, she has been fined five or six time for inciting racial hatred and has targeted Muslims, the gay community, and immigrants.

- Liliana on

Regardless of what anyone thinks of Brigitte Bardot, if they were so inspired by her why didn’t they name their daughter Brigitte? Bardot is a ridiculous name for a child and Bardot Vita sounds like a stripper.

- Blondiebear on

Well this thread got messy really fast! hahaha

Not a fan of the name at all. Vita is nice though.

- Mel on

Maybe David, like I, had never heard of all the negative stuff involving Brigitte Bardot

- Micheley on

blondiebear, i love your comment! what a RIDICULOUS name for a child. poor girl, i hope she thinks of a better nickname for herself.

- nks on

i think david and his wife got inspired by early Brigitte Bardot. Not the woman she is now.
If you follow her career, back in the days she was amazing and more open. I don’t know what happen to make her the hateful person she is today but anyway, the fact they name their baby after her doesn’t shock me.

Personnally i think of young brigitte bardot and old brigitte bardot as two different person.

- daze on

Even if they didn’t know about Brigitte Bardot’s recent behavior, you would think they might have looked into it more before naming their child after her. I know that if I’m considering giving my child a name that is heavily associated with another person, I would want to make sure those associations are good.

- cbbfan on

I didn’t even realize that the name was supposed to be for Brigette Bardot. I just thought it was another celeberity naming their child something wierd. Oh well, I’m still a fan of David’s and I think it’s great how much he clearly loves his kids.

- Jenn on

I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks of Bardot as a stripper name. Very unfortunate name indeed.

- bellaf on

A name doesn’t mean too much. Their daughter will make her own name
and the meaning associated with it will reflect her behavior. Or at least that is the way it should be.

- Bill on

Horrible decision, David.

Bill – I don’t know where you’re from, but everywhere I’ve been names mean a whole lot. There are people who can’t get certain jobs because of their names.

- kyotoyoshi on

Hahaha…you are all so funny about the racism aspect!! We still name our kids Charles (Manson) and Jeffrey (Dahmer) and Roman (Polanski)!!! How silly to make that association with that name….

- erin on

Erin, we are not calling them Manson or Polanski though…
Bardot is Brigitte. Brigitte is not Bardot (I don’t know if that last part is clear :-P )

- Jo Ann v. on

Agree completely, Jo Ann.

- Summer on

Erin – Your reasoning is pretty faulty. People don’t name their children Manson, Dahmer, Polanski do they?

Charles, Jeffrey, and Roman are all normal first names that can be associated with just about anyone. If they had called her Brigitte, at least our minds wouldn’t immediately go to Brigitte Bardot.

I don’t see anyone naming their kid Hitler either.

- kyotoyoshi on

I like the name Bardot. Like her or not, Brigitte Bardot was one of the most beautiful women that ever lived. Tough to live up to her beauty, though. But at least no one else has the name. It is quite unique. Besides, there are a lot of wild baby names anymore. Bardot is much better than some of the other crazy ones out there! :)
