Josie Bissett Creates 'Special Moments' For Mason and Maya

Barry King/WireImage

Whether it’s “snuggling in bed for a movie night” or enjoying a big family meal that they prepared together, Josie Bissett says she’s taken efforts to make memories for Mason Tru, 10, and Maya Rose, 7, that will last a lifetime. “I try to consciously create special moments for my children,” the 38-year-old Melrose Place actress tells Pint Size Social. “I hope when they grow up they remember all of the memories I’ve created for them.”

“I hope they remember their childhood as a great one.”

One thing they’ll almost certainly remember is lots of one-on-one time with mom. Although she wishes she had “more time to go to the movies, read novels, vacation and spend weekends” with her girlfriends, you won’t catch Josie agonizing over whether or not to take a role or make a promotional appearance. “The key for me is to always know what my priorities are,” she explains. “When I know what my priorities are, my choices become clear.”

“The key to keeping my life in balance is spending time with my friends and family and making time for myself.”

Mason and Maya are Josie’s children with ex-husband Rob Estes. Melrose Place airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on the CW.

Sherri Shepherd: My 4-Year-Old Is a Flirt

Jason Merritt/FilmMagic

Sherri Shepherd has a little lothario on her hands. The View co-host, 42, says her 4-year-old son Jeffrey Charles loves to charm the ladies — especially Elisabeth Hasselbeck‘s daughter Grace, 4.

“First thing he says to Grace is, ‘Give me a kiss,’” says the comedienne, whose new book, Permission Slips: Every Woman’s Guide to Giving Herself a Break, is out October 5th. “That’s how he is with all the little girls: ‘Give me a kiss!’ If you don’t kiss him, he’s gonna friggin’ hit you. Every little 4-year-old girl, he loves ‘em.”

In Permission Slips, Sherri opens up about life as a single mom — and giving herself permission to make mistakes. The title was inspired by a moment on The View when a “very nervous” Sherri said she didn’t know whether the earth was round or flat.

“I was beating myself up until I got hundreds of emails from women going, ‘You know what Sherri? I don’t care if the earth is round or flat, I’m just trying to take care of my kid,’” she says. “And that’s when I realized, we just have to give ourselves permission to say dumb things, we have to give ourselves permission to feel okay and not beat ourselves up ’cause we’re trying so hard to be the perfect mother, perfect sister, wife.”

Another permission slip she’s given herself? The occasional dieting blunder. In the book, she jokingly calls frozen yogurt chain Pinkberry “Satan’s Franchise.”

“I haven’t been to Pinkberry since last July,” she says, “so it’s been a year and a half I’ve been sober!”

Clive Owen Makes Parenting the Priority

Jon Furniss/WireImage

On screen Clive Owen is usually cast as the dashing male lead, but at home the 44-year-old actor says he’s anything but. “My girls completely boss me,” he tells PARADE. “I have no power in my house whatsoever.”

Proudly proclaiming himself the family “geek” and “so low-status…you wouldn’t believe it,” Clive says that it was nevertheless “odd” for daughters Hannah, 12, and Eve, 10, to see him playing a father in the new film The Boys Are Back. “I know they’re thinking, ‘Who are these kids that are around my dad?’” he explains. “But they seem OK with it.”

The same could not be said for Clive himself, however, when it came to shooting one emotionally draining scene in which he informs his fictional son that his mom is about to die. “It was such a devastating idea just to even think about it…Every time I read it in the script it upset me,” Clive concedes. “I think it will move people in lots of different ways.” As for knowing how and when to break bad news to Hannah and Eve, Clive says, “You trust your instincts on that, don’t you?”

“You give them as much information as you think they can take. You shouldn’t overload children. I don’t think you should give them too much. When my kids were very young, I wouldn’t let them watch the news because I thought they were too young to actually really fully understand and process it.”

Because the film tackles parenthood from a father’s perspective, Clive says that he finds it “very touching” and easy to relate to. “What you see is a part of my life,” he explains. “Parenting has been a priority for me.” He adds,

“I don’t have boys, but I’ve got two girls…and I’ve always considered helping to raise them to be separate from making movies. I go off and make movies and then I come home and I’m a father. I look after my girls. I do the washing up, I do the laundry. I don’t let the place go.”

Hannah and Eve are Clive’s children with wife Sarah-Jane Fenton. The Boys Are Back is in theaters now.

Eric Carle's Kinder-Ready: Games For The Grocery Store

Travel Scavenger

Eric Carle, the author and illustrator of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, has illustrated a beautiful line of learning games called Kinder-Ready.

The clever Travel Scavenger set ($10) is a little paper pad that comes with a washable marker. Take this along to the grocery store and your little one can find the baked goods that match Carle’s cute illustration of cherry pie. It also has sections for in the car, at the zoo or at a restaurant. This is a brilliant idea for keeping my 4-year-old son, Finn busy while we wait for his food to come! I just wish it was reusable. The ink washes off of kids, but doesn’t wash off of the paper.

The Kinder-Ready Alphabet Clue Cards ($10) challenge kids to match the two halves of the illustration and put them together like puzzle pieces. Each piece has an upper case or lower case letter that the kids can join to complete the picture. We always bring puzzles for hotel-room entertainment and this one’s a hit.

Carle’s illustrations are artistic and timeless and the sets are great for beefing up skills like letter identification and matching when you’re on the go.

– Kristen, NJ mama to energetic 1 and 4 year old boys, loves hot designer goods (but appreciates a good bargain even more) and believes strollers should come with cup holders and toys should have volume controls

Naomi Watts and Dee Ocleppo Bond Over Babies

Jamie McCarthy/Getty

Although Naomi Watts looked calm and collected as she arrived at the Tommy Hilfiger runway show on September 17th, she confessed to Celebrity Baby Blog that her day had been anything but!

Wearing a white backless sheath dress by Hilfiger, Naomi told us she’d had a busy afternoon and had just wrapped a meal with sons Samuel Kai, 9 months, and Alexander ‘Sasha’ Pete, 2, before heading to the show.

“I’ve done a million things today!” she exclaimed. “I had a meeting. I had to do a interview about a film that I’ve got coming out. I exercised. And before I left the house, I was feeding my kids, and we nearly had pizza all over this dress.”

The actress, 40, chatted with fellow mom Dee Ocleppo, who recently gave birth to her first child with Tommy, 7-week-old Sebastian Thomas.

“Sebastian, the baby is wonderful. He looks exactly like his dad,” Dee told CBB. “He’s a big healthy boy — born at 9.5 lbs! I’m just happy I had a healthy baby. We don’t want to leave home — when you have a newborn, you don’t want to go anywhere.”

“I was [telling Naomi] she looked great in that dress. She’s stunning and so sweet,” Dee continued. “I’m self-conscious in my dress because I just had a baby. I wanted to wear [Naomi's], but it’s a bit too early to start showing my back — she’s nine months postpartum. I’m going to get there! At nine months, I’m going to wear the backless dress too, but for the moment, I’m too tired and lazy to get up on a treadmill. I’ve been sitting on my behind for nine months. I’ll start with some walking!”
