Eva LaRue: 'Allow Yourself The Guilt'

Eric Charbonneau/WireImage

You’ll never catch Eva LaRue pretending that it’s easy to balance work and family. “Any mom who tells you that she does it effortlessly is not telling the truth,” the 42-year-old CSI: Miami star tells Babble. “You feel like you’re never quite doing enough or giving 100 percent to one or the other.”

The key to getting through the day unscathed, says the mom to 7 ½-year-old Kaya McKenna, is learning how to “pick your spots” to shine. “Something is always going to slide,” she notes,

“If it’s a really important episode, you give 100 percent of your attention to the episode and if it’s not, then you’re giving 110 percent to your kid and your life and the rest of your family.”

Learning to forgive yourself when your best efforts fail is an important step, too.  “If there’s one piece of valuable information I wish I had in the beginning, it’s this — allow yourself the guilt,” Eva says. “It’s okay, there’s no way around it.” Lastly, don’t compare yourself to others because looks can be deceiving! “There are people that look like they’re doing it brilliantly and maybe they are, but maybe they just look like that from the outside,” Eva points out. “Unfortunately if you measure yourself up against other people that look like they’re doing it well, you’re never going to feel like you’re doing okay.”

The single biggest challenge of motherhood thus far, Eva says, is being a single mom! Her engagement to businessman Joe Cappuccio recently ended, which was particularly tough on Kaya who had grown “very attached” to mom’s former fiancé. “I really didn’t know how to walk her through the break-up,” Eva concedes. “She didn’t get a say in that and yet she was pretty heart-broken.”

“When someone gradually leaves your life, that’s one thing because you get used to the end of it. When somebody disappears, it takes all of your control away. It leaves you frantic and that break-up left her in a frantic space because she had no control over it.”

Rebecca Gayheart Shows Off Her Baby Bump

Limelight

Out on a stroll in Los Angeles last weekend with husband Eric Dane, Rebecca Gayheart showed in public what the couple’s close friends have known for some time: that she’s expecting.

In February, Grey’s Anatomy star Eric, 37, told Ellen DeGeneres that he and Rebecca, 38, wanted a baby.

“They’re definitely happy,” a source tells PEOPLE. “They’ve been trying for so long.”

Reps for the pair have not commented.

Maxine Bahns: 'Happy Couple Equals a Happy Baby'

Courtesy Experience Life

A veteran triathlete — she has competed in over 30, including the 2001 Hawaii Ironman — no one was more surprised than Maxine Bahns herself when she stopped training and watching what she ate following the birth of her daughter, Madison Rose, in March.

In the September issue of Experience Life magazine, the actress reveals that adjusting to the needs of a newborn left her with little time for much else, including cooking.

“My husband [Patrick] for some crazy reason, loves Top Ramen, and I normally would never, ever eat that, but it was the only thing in the cupboard,” she says.

Fortunately, it didn’t take Maxine long to realize the effects her unhealthy habits were having on her body.

“My fall off the health wagon was short-lived,” she reports. “When I started exercising and eating clean again, I looked and felt so much better.”

While a physically fit Maxine — who believes that her dedication to prenatal yoga led to her 20-minute delivery — Patrick and 6-month-old Madison have settled into their routine as a family of three, the Mentalist actress admits it hasn’t all been smooth sailing.

Once free to go as they pleased, the reality of life with baby was a hard hit for the couple. Says Patrick,

“At 39, I was so used to doing whatever the heck I wanted, whenever I wanted. Having a child totally shifted our priorities — now you just tend to her whenever she needs you.”

BOB Stroller Diaper Bag: The Hip Clip-On For Moms and Dads

BOB Stroller Diaper Bag

I’m forever on the hunt for a great unisex diaper bag and I’ve found a keeper in the BOB Stroller Diaper Bag ($65). Not only will its straightforward design appeal to understated moms, but dads who like to keep a low profile while out with baby will love it too!

Choose from nine colorways including black/beige, navy/white or chocolate/light blue, pictured. Literally, there’s a combination for every parent’s style and taste.

But I don’t just love the style, the bag is super convenient too! It clips directly onto any BOB single or duallie stroller and offers lots of user-friendly features like a fleece-lined-lined sunglasses pocket, a waterproof 31″ x 12″changing pad, a key clip and a cell phone pocket. All at a price that mom and dad can both live with.
