'Busy Mom' Alyson Hannigan Credits Breastfeeding for Weightloss

Kevin Perkins/Pacific Coast News

When it comes to returning to pre-baby form, like millions of other moms How I Met Your Mother star Alyson Hannigan credits breastfeeding. The 35-year-old actress is so impressed, in a new video for PEOPLE TV, she jokes that nursing even factors into her long-term weight maintenance plans.

“I know it’s a cliché, but I was eating just ridiculous amounts of food but still losing weight,” she notes. “I think I should just keep breastfeeding until she’s 18.” She adds,

“Is that weird? [If I] just keep pumping? No, I’m not going to do that. That was a joke. Please don’t send letters!”

Since returning to the set of the hit CBS show Alyson has developed a newfound appreciation for the push and pull of working motherhood. “I am a busy mom….it’s amazing how you have to sort of juggle things more than you did before the baby,” she says.

At the same time, she’s cognizant of how unique her own circumstances are — and grateful for them, as well.

“We have a nursery on set. My baby gets to come with me every day, and her daddy is there. I’m really fortunate to be able to bring her to work.”

Fans of HIMYM‘s Marshall and Lily shouldn’t get their hopes up that the fictional characters will also become parents, however, Alyson adds. “The show revolves around the five of them in a bar,” she notes. “[A baby] kind of would cramp the style.”

Alyson and her husband of nearly six years Alexis Denisof are parents to Satyana, 6 months.

Jenna Elfman Says Baby No. 2 Was Conceived Earlier Than Planned

Gregg DeGuire/PictureGroup

Much has been made of a pregnant Jenna Elfman portraying an expectant mom onscreen in the new sitcom Accidentally on Purpose, and while the timing was great, it wasn’t quite perfect. So says the 37-year-old actress in a new interview with USA Today, revealing that she and husband Bodhi Elfman intended to conceive their baby-on-the-way in August so that Jenna’s belly would match-up with that of her fictional character.

“Yeah, we had one wonderful evening in June,” she concedes with a laugh. “It was, um, really romantic. So there you go!”

Although her real-life bump is a bit too large for the story — producers are shooting around it, for now — Jenna says that other aspects of the show ring true, like that of a woman who puts off starting a family in order to focus on her job. “I was 35 when I got pregnant with [son] Story [Elias, 2],” she points out. “I was 36 when he was born.”

“It wasn’t for lack of a spouse or partner. I was just focusing on my career, and I think a lot of women are focusing so much on their career that they’re not finding a man to have a child with.”

Now that she has both — a growing family, and a new show — Jenna admits that there is a big adjustment underway for mother and son, but she is optimistic that she can make it all work. “Today was a crazy day. I got done early, and I ran home and I got to be with my boy, who just woke up from his nap,” she says. “It was almost going to be nothing for the day, which never happens unless I’m out of town.”

“Right now I can bring him to the set. I just try and figure it out every day and I make it my priority. Where there’s a will, there is a way. And a mother’s intention is strong. I know mine is!”

Accidentally on Purpose airs Mondays at 8:30 p.m. on CBS.

Step2 Naturally Playful Sandbox: Sand in the Place Where You Live

Step2 Naturally Playful Sandbox

My daughter loves sand — a dive-in-face-first-and-swim-in-it kind of love. So it was only a matter of time before we put a sandbox in our yard and we’re glad we chose the Step2 Naturally Playful Sandbox ($80). Not only is it fun for the kids, but it’s stylish and neutral enough to blend in with our lawn’s landscape.

It holds up to 200 lbs of sand, plus it has a mini seat at each corner and an easy-to-use cover with a pretty sun design. My only complaint is that water can collect in the grooves on top of the lid.

Not sure what to do with it when your kids have outgrown it? Use it as a planter for a flower garden.

Stephanie, crunchy, urban Canadian mama to a 4-year-old contrarian son and a 1-year-old philosopher daughter loves all things green, gadgety and glam.

Jennifer Garner Says Daughters Enjoy a 'Normal Upbringing'

Juan Rico/Fame

Raising normal kids in abnormal circumstances is something most celebrity parents will struggle with at some point, but Jennifer Garner notes in a new interview that normal is a relative term.

Although she laments the lack of laws in place to protect the privacy of Violet Anne, 3 ½, and Seraphina Rose Elizabeth, 8 ½ months, she nonetheless believes they have enjoyed “a very normal upbringing.”

“They do have things that are really exciting for them and strange for them, I’m sure. Like living in a different place for a while then going back home. But kids have that with parents with all different jobs so I try not to look at it as something that is a problem. But kids are kids, they think whatever goes on in their lives is normal.”

When asked to describe her perfect day, the 37-year-old actress depicts something that sounds quite normal indeed: Some quality time with each daughter, and then playtime together, followed by a home-cooked meal “where there’s enough [food] left over for another day” and “a glass of wine and a conversation” with husband Ben Affleck.

The picture she paints is in keeping with Jennifer’s low-maintenance approach to her wardrobe — especially by celebrity standards! “If you look at the pictures taken every day of my life you’ll see that I do not make it work most of the time,” she jokes. “I am in jeans that are on the floor from last night and one of the five t-shirts that I rotate.”

“I do know moms who pull it together every day — I am not one of them. But when I do, I try to really pull it together so it makes some kind of impact. Sometimes for yourself you just need to take a shower, put on something clean, put on a little blush and go out the door.”
