Zac Brown Welcomes Daughter Georgia Sloan

C. Taylor Crothers

News of his four Country Music Association nominations Wednesday morning left singer Zac Brown “elated, excited, amazed,” he told PEOPLE, but the evening held an even bigger, better surprise: the birth of his third daughter.

Zac and his wife, Shelly, welcomed Georgia Sloan Brown at 11:50 p.m. Wednesday, his rep confirms to PEOPLE exclusively. Baby Georgia, who weighed in at 8 lbs., 9 oz, joins older sisters Lucy, 16 months, and Justice, 2 ½.

“September ninth was a day of many blessings for the Brown family,” the rep said in a statement.

The Atlanta-based country singer, whose CMA nods were his first, spoke with PEOPLE Wednesday as he and his wife were on their way to the doctor, soon after he had learned of the CMA news via text message.

The Zac Brown Band received nominations for new artist, vocal group, and single and song of the year for “Chicken Fried,” a tune Zac co-wrote celebrating “the simple things in life that we sometimes forget” — like fried chicken, sweet tea and, appropriately, as the song says, “the touch of a precious child.”

The couple announced the pregnancy in February.

Planete Bebe Bath Products: Smells Good? Oui! Oui!

Planete Bebe Du Petit Prince is a très très chic line of baby bath products from France. The Cleansing Milk ($16) is creamy white with a slippery feel and a soft scent. It is soap free for extra-sensitive baby skin. The Body and Hair Cleansing Foam ($16) has a stronger, fresh scent and lathers up nicely. Both luxurious products are hypoallergenic and free of alcohol and parabens, and they contain lotus flower extract for soft skin. The $16 price tag is a splurge but you’ll only need a little bit for each bath, so the bottles last and last.

Michelle Branch on Owen: 'She's Pretty Sassy'

UPI Photo/Landov

It appears as though Michelle Branch will have her work cut out for her with daughter Owen Isabelle, 4. “She’s pretty sassy,” Michelle concedes to OK! “She says a lot of things that are inappropriate at the time.” Case in point? Michelle reveals,

“She tried to give her teacher at her school, who is a nun who is interning, the birds and the bees talk…and I got called by her teacher. That was quite embarrassing for us.”

Noting that “every other day, there’s something new,” Michelle says that — momentary embarrassment aside — motherhood “is amazing.” The mother-daughter duo were looking forward to making some more amazing memories during a low-key weekend getaway to Palm Springs.

“We like to have some time by the pool, and relax,” the 26-year-old songstress says. “I’m a last-minute packer, so I hate packing. Whatever’s clean works.”

Owen is Michelle’s daughter with husband Teddy Landau.

Katherine Heigl: Adoption 'Was Going to Have to Happen'

Alpha/Landov

The question of whether or not to have children is one that most couples will tackle early on in their relationship, but for Katherine Heigl and Josh Kelley “the talk” took on a decidedly non-traditional tone.

In an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show airing Friday, the 30-year-old Grey’s Anatomy star said that she first broached the topic of adoption with Josh before the couple were even engaged.

Noting that her sister Meg Heigl is Korean and that adopting from Korea was something she “always knew” she wanted to do, Katherine says that making her intentions “really clear” to her paramour was key. “Not everybody is down with that,” she notes. “Not everybody thinks that.”

“I just wanted to make sure that I was marrying a guy who understands that this was going to have to happen.”

Happen, indeed! The couple will welcome their first child — a 9 ½-month-old daughter named Naleigh — “real, real soon” after initiating her adoption “about a year ago,” according to Katherine. “The process is intense,” she notes, citing a 40-page questionnaire which covered everything from their upbringings to their respective parenting philosophies. “These are very valid questions,” Katherine points out. “You think about some of these things. You talk about some of these things but you don’t really get into the mix of it until you’re looking at these questions going, ‘Oh my God we better answer these right otherwise they won’t give us the baby.”

“It’s different, but it isn’t. It’s just as intense I’m sure to have a baby biologically because you’re going through the whole physical sort of thing of it.”

Naleigh — named “after my mother and sister Nancy, Leigh” — was able to be adopted on an expedited basis because she has special needs. “They wanted to get her to us as quickly as possible,” Katherine says, explaining that the timing played a role in her decision to break the news. “I wanted to tell everybody so you don’t think I stole a Korean baby!” she laughs.

And although they haven’t met yet, mother and baby already have at least one thing in common — a birth sign! “She was actually born the day before me in November which I thought was really serendipitous and just kind of like a sign,” Katherine notes. “I realized just recently that I basically forfeited my birthday for the rest of my life.”
