Lionel Richie: 'Sparrow Looks Just Like Harlow'

Jared Milgrim/Everett

“I am so proud of Nicole and Joel,” boasted second-time grandfather Lionel Richie, at the UNSF’s An Evening of Stars Saturday, honoring the legendary singer, just days after his daughter Nicole Richie, 27, and Joel Madden, 30, welcomed son Sparrow James Midnight into the world.

“[Nicole] is the happiest woman ever. She is just in total control,” he said. “I’m the one that’s nervous!”

How is Sparrow’s big sis Harlow Winter Kate, 20 months, adjusting to her new sibling? “Harlow right now is enjoying the baby until she finds out it’s staying,” jokes Lionel.

And, indeed Sparrow is truly one of the family. “He looks just like Harlow,” says grandpa. “All babies sort of look the same as their siblings, but this is identical.” Which parent does Sparrow resemble most? “Mom did that,” Lionel says firmly.

Continuing his spoiling tradition, the singer says he already brought the baby a “football helmet and cleats.” But admits that he’s a little ahead of the game. “They told me it wasn’t time yet,” he says with a laugh.

Determined for his grandson to be a brash boy, Lionel says, “Sparrow may not be the football playing name, but he’ll get bruised somewhere in the game.”

Though his excitement peaked when becoming a grandfather the first time — “When I hear the words Papa or Popi, forget about it,” says Lionel of Harlow’s names for him — he says his second grandchild has him feeling “just over the top!”

Sarah Clarke on Her Conservation-Conscious Daughter

Brian To/FilmMagic

Celebrity moms and dads — more often than not — won’t ever know the financial struggles that most parents know all too well, but Sarah Clarke draws on her own childhood for inspiration in raising daughter Olwyn Harper, turning 3-years-old later this month, nonetheless.

“I was given a clothes allowance at a pretty young age and it really taught me about picking and choosing what I wanted as opposed to just thinking things appeared,” she recalls in a segment for Spotlight to Nightlight. “We all had chores. I mowed the lawn, and I remember when that was passed down to me from my brother…I was like, ‘Yes!’”

To that end, Sarah says she makes a concerted effort to teach Olwyn to never be wasteful and it appears as though her message has been well-received. Olwyn is learning to use water in a cup when she brushes her teeth instead of leaving the faucet on, and her conservation efforts don’t end there! Adds Sarah,

“The other thing is toilet training…the toilet paper. Just the other day I was taking some, and she was like, ‘Not too much, Mom.’ She said, ‘Not too much.’ I said, ‘That’s right!’”

When asked by host Ali Landry what Sarah and Olwyn have in common, the 37-year-old former 24 actress conceded that her daughter “is a huge drama queen.”

“She’s just like…’I didn’t want to do it. Ahhhh.’ She throws herself down, like, ‘Noooo, Mommy!’ It’s just, like, so dramatic. But mainly it’s just sometimes her face, she’ll register something and it’s like looking in the mirror.”

Olwyn is Sarah’s daughter with husband Xander Berkeley.

Rebecca Romijn: 'The World Was Made for Pairs'

Sam Sharma/Pacific Coast News

Making good on earlier statements by husband Jerry O’Connell, mom-of-two Rebecca Romijn confirms to E! that the shop is — indeed — closed! “I’m pretty sure that this is it,” the 36-year-old star of Eastwick says in a new interview. “We feel like the world was made for pairs.”

“Four feels like the perfect number. Also, we’re not interested in overpopulating this world…So we feel like we don’t want to leave more than we are when we leave this planet.”

Signing on to the show — debuting Sept. 23 at 10 p.m. on ABC — was something Rebecca initially had no intention of doing, but the project proved too good to pass up. “I had put it out there that I just wanted to be a mom for six months and not even think about work at all,” she explains. “I told the powers-that-be if anything came across their desks that I’d be devastated if I missed out on it, to make sure that I knew about it.”

When the pilot was shot Rebecca was still nursing twins Dolly Rebecca Rose and Charlie Tamara Tulip, 8 months, and she concedes that the long days on set wreak havoc with her emotions. “Mother’s guilt is no joke,” she notes.

“I feel like any stretch of time I spend away from them, I’m worried that I’m missing out on just these little miracles. Like you watch them stare at their hand for an hour and they go take a three-hour nap and they wake up and they can do something that they didn’t do before — like wave!”

Munchkin Dangly Buddy: Your Child's New Best Buddy

Munchkin’s Dangly Buddy ($8) is a sweet toy that clips to car seats, high chairs, play yards or strollers to entertain tiny ones wherever they go. It comes in giraffe or frog styles and it vibrates, buzzes and jiggles when the baby pulls it down. My 1-year-old son Egan has loved his since he was a newborn and I don’t see it going by the wayside any time soon.

– Kristen, NJ mama to energetic 1 and 4 year old boys, loves hot designer goods (but appreciates a good bargain even more)

Marissa Jaret Winokur Can't Recall Life Before Baby

MAXA/Landov

After a whirlwind surrogate pregnancy during her stint on Dancing With the Stars, followed by the juggling act of first-time motherhood while hosting Dance Your Ass Off, Marissa Jaret Winokur has finally found the perfect solution to spending uninterrupted time with her 13-month-old son Zev Isaac.

“I love going in the pool with him where no one can call me,” she reveals.

“I can’t answer the cell phone, and I can’t get an e-mail. It’s really, really good private time where nothing can get in my way of just being alone with him. There’s nothing too important — because when you’re in the pool you have to give 100% attention.”

Much like she discovered the secret to quality mother-son time together, Marissa and her husband Judah Miller are still learning the ropes of parenthood. However, while still considered relatively new parents, the 36-year-old laughs she struggles to recall her life before baby! “I don’t remember what I did after 6:00, ever. I’m like, ‘What did I do?’” she muses.

“‘Because he goes to sleep, and I’m home with him asleep, and I’m like, ‘What did I used to do then?’ I don’t remember what it was like.”
