Ali Landry Longs For a Southern Style Upbringing For Estela

Courtesy New Moms Handbook for use on CBB

Born and raised in Louisiana, Ali Landry is bringing the traditional southern style to Los Angeles — especially when it comes to Estela Ines, her daughter with Alejandro Monteverde.

Despite her efforts, however, the actress often longs for her hometown qualities among her now metropolitan lifestyle.

“I grew up in Louisiana where I have 18 sets of aunts and uncles all living within 30 miles of each other,” she tells the fall issue of New Mom’s Handbook.

“In the South you visit a lot. I mean you don’t call and say, ‘I’m coming over,’ you just stop by and visit all afternoon. It makes me so sad not to have that for Estela [in Los Angeles]. That absolutely is the toughest thing in the world.”

Fortunately, experiencing life in both Louisiana and the west coast got Ali’s creative juices flowing; She recently launched her children’s clothing line, Belle Parish.

“It started because my mom saved these beautiful day gowns from when I was a baby,” she shares. “When I had Estela she flew here and brought me this beautiful box with all of these delicate little cotton dresses that women in our town made by hand.” A quick glance around, and Ali realized the old-fashioned style was hard to come by in Hollywood!

“And then it occurred to me, in California I see a lot of children dressed like adults. I have so much appreciation now for where I’m from and that traditional style. I just really wanted to celebrate each phase of her life and I wanted to dress her like a baby with bonnets, dresses and the little crocheted shoes.”

Calling every day in motherhood “a new experience,” Ali reveals that, as of lately, her time has been spent battling the terrible twos. “She’s just started that age where she hits me sometimes,” she says. “I’m very consistent and I do put her sitting in the corner.” Keeping the lines of communication open with Estela, Ali — who will “try to talk to her and explain why we don’t hit people” — is also a stickler for good manners. “I also like to make sure she says, ‘Please,’ and ‘Thank you.’ And, ‘Yes, Ma’am.’”

On-The-Go Car Sunshade Kit Keeps Kids Shady

The Prince Lionheart On-The-Go Car Sunshade Kit is a static cling sunshade that sticks to car windows, designed to shade your children from the sun’s rays. It costs around $5.50 for 1 — or you may be able to find it in a twin pack (you’re going to need two anyway). Harmful UV rays are reduced by 99 percent with this sunshade, which measures 16-in. by 22-in.

To install, unfold the sunshade and use the included sponge/squeegee tool to flatten it. Then carefully stick it onto your window and use the sponge/squeegee to smooth out any air bubbles on the shade.

We liked this smoked gray vinyl sunshade, because it actually stuck to our back car windows. In fact, I was able to roll down the windows with ease. Just be careful and go slow while lowering and raising windows — or it could bunch up!

Honor Warren Is Already Bilingual – Sort Of

Alex Thompson/Broadimage

Jessica Alba attended the Clinton Global Initiative in New York City on Thursday to promote global education for all children, and told PEOPLE she also relentlessly promotes education at home with 15-month-old daughter Honor Marie.

“I am a mother who shoves information down her throat, poor thing,” the currently blond actress said with a laugh. “I sing her songs about colors in Spanish and English when I’m cooking. Literally I integrate learning into everything I do. We’re into colors because I feel that’s something a 15-month-old can sort of identify. So now she kind of points to blue and says ‘azul’ and I say ‘Yes, azul, muy bien!’ It’s slow going but she’s sort of picking it up.”

The Fantastic Four actress proudly says her little girl is bilingual already — almost. “She says gato for cat. Pato for duck, but dog is dog,” Jessica says. “She doesn’t say perro. She kind of flips back and forth. She’s very silly. She growls like a lion whenever I say leon.”

Jessica announced that she will be the United States co-chair of 1GOAL, the new campaign to make education for all children the legacy of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. The actress says as a mother “everything becomes more important,” particularly education, which is why she is particularly dedicated to the non-profit. “It’s a human right, I believe, to have the opportunity to have an education and it’s unacceptable that 75 million children on this planet don’t have a chance to have one.”

She hopes to bring her daughter to Africa for the first time early next year. “I’m actually really excited about going to Africa for the first time with my daughter and exposing her to a completely different culture and having her learn through life experiences,” Jessica explained. “That’s one thing she’s going to get that not a lot of children have the luxury of having: traveling and being exposed to world issues and cultures and food. I can’t wait.”

Jessica adds that she’s excited 1GOAL is affiliated with the World Cup because she is a soccer fan. “I played soccer when I was a kid and so did my husband,” she says. “The wonderful thing about the 1GOAL campaign being tied into the World Cup is it’s the one time in the world when everyone puts down their differences, puts down their weapons, and roots for a team.”

Alonzo and Tracy Mourning Welcome Son Alijah

Seth Browarnik/Startraks

It’s another boy for former Miami Heat center Alonzo Mourning and wife Tracy! The 39-year-old basketball star welcomed his third child — and second son — on Friday, September 18th. Alijah Harden Mourning arrived at 4:28 p.m., weighing in at 8 pounds and measuring 20 inches in length.

Pronounced similar to Elijah, the Miami Herald reports that the couple chose the unique spelling in order to give Alijah the same initials as his dad and 13-year-old big brother Alonzo III. He will also be welcomed by big sister Myka Sydney, 8 ½, at home.

The pregnancy was announced in June, with Tracy celebrating her baby shower last month.

Courteney Cox-Arquette Dishes on Coco's Celebrity Crush

Bruce Glikas/FilmMagic

As a celebrity mom, Courteney Cox-Arquette isn’t afraid to call in a favor or two on behalf of daughter Coco Riley, 5. The best laid plans often go awry, however — which Courteney recently learned after arranging for actor Zac Efron to make a surprise visit to their California home.

“Coco gets these crushes on these young guys, these huge crushes,” the 45-year-old Cougar Town actress explained during a recent visit to The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien. “She just loves him.” Together with husband David Arquette, Courteney had the video camera rolling when Zac finally arrived — but Coco’s response was not what the couple had been hoping for!

“We told her to close her eyes, and then ‘Open them now! Open them now!’ And then there he is. She freaked out, just totally traumatized, and ran into her room.”

Courteney’s own reaction was surprising as well, and it soon became apparent that mother and daughter have much in common! “I looked at Zac, and I was like, he’s hot,” she concedes. “I was so attracted to him but I went into [Coco's] room and I wanted to console her.”

When Coco made it apparent that she would not leave her room, Courteney joked that it wasn’t exactly unwelcome news. “I didn’t need the competition,” she kidded, “and I let her stay in there. [Zac] didn’t stay that long, just like, 8 hours.”

Courteney’s new show Cougar Town airs Wednesdays at 9:30 p.m. on ABC.

Angie Harmon Sympathizes With Stay-at-Home Moms

RD/Dziekan/Retna

Angie Harmon has already said that her little girls have husband Jason Sehorn “whipped,” but it looks like he’s not the only one.

“I’ve always sort of looked at stay-at-home moms and been like, ‘Oh gosh, how on earth do you do that? It seems so boring!’ There is not a boring moment!,” Angie, 36, exclaimed to PEOPLE while hosting the Huggies Big Mover Shoe Auction to raise money for the charity KaBOOM.

“I’ll be in the car for four hours, just from taking them to school and someone forgot a lunch and then we got to go back with the project, it’s just amazing to me. I’ve really been enjoying that.”

Angie, who delivered the couple’s third daughter, Emery Hope, last December, says that between the 9-month-old and daughters Avery Grace, 4, and Finley Faith, 5 ½, she and Jason, 38, have all but given up on romantic time for now.

“It’s funny, we held hands the other day and it was so odd that it wasn’t a little hand, that it was a hand bigger than mine,” laughs Angie.

“We’re literally just like, ‘All right, great game, see you in the showers!’ That’s kind of it right now — we’re outnumbered. They try to take over as much as they can, it’s us against them.”

And her eldest daughters couldn’t be happier with the latest addition to the family: for them, Emery is just one more toy to play with.

“They treat her like she’s a doll, so it’s a bit alarming at times, but it’s really been very easy,” says Angie. “They love her. We didn’t have any of the jealousy.”
