Kendra Wilkinson Searching for New OB/GYN

Kiley Bishop/London Ent/Splash News Online

With husband Hank Baskett‘s departure from the Philadelphia Eagles — and subsequent arrival on the roster of the Indianapolis Colts — Kendra Wilkinson and the couple’s baby-boy-on-the-way are very much in limbo!

Unsure of even where she’ll give birth, Kendra tells the October 5th issue of Us Weekly that she’s now house-hunting while trying to find a new OB/GYN in Indiana. “Some of the other players’ wives have recommended a doctor,” she explains. “I was just figuring out where to put the crib, and then bam, we have to go.”

The change of scenery isn’t getting the couple down, however. “We’re keeping positive,” she says. “It’s making everything stronger.” And with baby boy — to be named Hank IV — due to arrive on Christmas Day, Kendra is ever cognizant that the clock is ticking! She adds,

“It’s so weird. His eyes are starting to open, his lungs are fully developed, and he’s antsier. He’s kicking!”

Sharing that her weight gain has approached the 40 lbs. mark, Kendra says that for the most part she isn’t sweating the changes to her body. “I’m so happy,” she says. “Hank checks out my butt. He’s like, ‘Yeah, look at this baby now!’”

Other areas, however, are becoming a concern! “I want my boobs to stop growing,” she confesses. “They’re kind of gross.”

“I know they’ll shrink after I breastfeed, but if they don’t, I might get a breast reduction.”

Call me old fashioned and we learn more things about fetal development everyday, but I thought lungs were NOT fully developed until after or around the 36 week mark…not 28. I am due two days before her with my third and I was told that with the first two I had.

- *AJ* on

I don’t think the lungs are fully developed yet if she is due in late Dec, are they?

- April on

Umm, not sure who told her that the lungs were fully developed because that doesn’t happen until 36 weeks at the earliest. If she were to go into labor right now, the doctors would do everything in their power to stop it, plus give her steroid shots (that really HURT) to help the baby’s lungs mature.

- Me on

Aj, that’s what I thought! I was looking it up to see if I could find it!

- Jessica on

Also, her breasts may or may not shrink, especially if she’s going to breastfeed. It really goes 50/50 for every woman. I didn’t breastfeed and mine are 2 cup sizes bigger than they were before I got pregnant, and my child is a toddler now. I’m happy that she wants to breastfeed though. But she needs to be aware that they will get much bigger once her milk comes in. When I got pregnant I was an A cup. Throughout pregnancy I was a full C and when my milk came in, I got up to a DD. That’s a HUGE difference.

- Me on

Got this off of WebMD:
Month nine of Pregnancy

Towards the end of the third trimester, your baby continues to grow and mature: the lungs are nearly fully developed.

- Jessica on

Doesn’t she have implants? Would that have any influence on the growth rate of the breast tissue during pregnancy, or after pregnancy, or is it different?

- Mia on

ME – I want to be YOU! ;)

My boss said her breasts got larger too after kids and she didn’t nurse either. It is different for a lot of people although usually it’s the breast getting smaller that ends up happening!

I’m sad Hank isn’t an Eagle anymore (rather have him then dog killer Vick) but that’s the life of an athlete you never know where you’ll be.

- JMO on

I was induced at just over 33 weeks due to developing life-threatening pre-eclampsia, but prior to son’s delivery, I was given steroid injections to help my baby’s lungs as I was told they hadn’t yet developed, so I also thought it was from approx 35/36 weeks onwards that was a safer stage developmentally…?!

- Sam & Freya's Mum on

Yah good catch, I hadn’t noticed she’d said that. And actually, it can be even later. When my OB and I were scheduling my c-section he said if I wanted it done at 38 weeks I’d need an amnio done to make sure the lungs were totally developed. Needless to say, I was willing to wait till 39 weeks. I do think my OB was probably being borderline overly cautious, but there was a study out of The Ohio State University that came out last summer about there being a long-term difference in kids who were born at 37 weeks vs 38 weeks vs 39 weeks.

- MZ on

I’m a little confused here… How does a fetus at only 6 months have fully developed lungs? Is this a breed of super baby?

- Renee on

Maybe she just meant “fully formed”?

- Janna on

LOL@ developed lungs already! Let’s hope she made an honest mistake and meant to say something else.

- Chris on

I know we all read the same quotes, but does anyone know what she means when she says she may get a breast reduction? Does she just mean she’ll take out her implants? Or is she talking about actually removing breast tissue and fat? I assume it’s the former…?

- SadieA on

Lungs are one of the last things to develop. That is why so many premature babies need to have their breathing watched closely in the NICU. They catch up, but it is a common issue. I was about a month premature and I was put on a breathing tube for over two weeks. I caught up in no time and was perfectly healthy throughout my childhood.

- meghan on

Hey Kendra, if you read this….Clarian West Hosp… Dr. Allen…he’s WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!!!

- Katie on

it’s quite possible that the journalist interviewing and writing the article either misheard her or misquoted her. It did come from US Weekly, after all; not quite top-notch in the credibility and well-written departments. Otherwise, the poor girl is obviously misinformed.

That being said, I am so excited the Colts’ picked up Hank, I might actually drag myself to a game to see the hottie in person. I really hope they take the time to see there’s more to Indy than just cornfields and crazy Colts’ and Indy 500 fans haha ;)

- marimel on

she looks beautiful.

- Benigna Marko on

In Kendra’s defense she’s not a doctor, she’s a Playboy model. I don’t expect her to be an expert on fetal development. SadieA – I just assumed she meant that she would have the size of her implants reduced.

- Ann on

I kind of adore these two. As flighty as she can be, he’s great for her. They really seem to honestly enjoy each other and that’s fantastic. I can’t imagine having to pick up and move after being in your home about a month – even without a baby or one on the way!

- Erin on

she is hilarious

- cassie on

I understand that she is a Playboy model, but still as an expectant mother you would think that she would know they weren’t developed until about 36 weeks.

With my daughter they still weren’t developed at birth at 42 weeks and that is the reason she passed. I even had the steroids and everything. So it could be even not developed for quite some time.

- Jessi on

Maybe she meant “formed” instead of developed or she just got confused with something else? I know sometimes I will say something and get it confused and it’s double with pregnancy brain.

She seems really excited and happy and it’s fun to hear from her because she just sounds giddy, like any first time mom. It’s kind of cute.

- Mary-Helen on

I think I got the same email as her ;) I’m due about 2 weeks after her so it seems by the time her interviews come out she was at where I am now if that makes sense. The email said that the sacs or something in the lungs are now open and the baby can take a breath. Big difference but for a first time mom I can see how she might have shortened it to that his lungs were developed.
Lung maturity varies a LOT. Boys tend to be slower to mature, but both of my previous children were born at 34/35 weeks and they were both breathing on their own just fine with no steroid shots.
As far as breasts, no offense to anyone but the only people I’ve known IRL that have kept their larger breasts are the ones who also kept some of their baby weight. It isn’t really surprising that if you gain weight some of it will go to your breasts. That’s just logical. I didn’t find mine really changed size, but they definitely aren’t as full/firm as they were before I had kids.

- Amanda on

Kendra’s cute! I think she ment the lungs were developed, in the form of, developed meaning formed and learning to function.

- Lacey on

I hope she meant that the lungs were formed and that she doesn’t believe that if the baby was born right now he’d be able to breathe on his own. My daughter was born at 25 weeks (just three weeks behind Kendra is now) because of pre-eclampsia and she was in the NICU for 3 months and 4 days….the first 6 weeks she was on a full ventilator, followed by almost 3 on C-pap and then another 8 weeks with oxygen via a nasal cannula (that she came home on)….she also had a contition called BPD (Bronchial Pulmonary Displasia) and also developed Hyline Membrane Disease from being on thew vent for so long. She is now about to turn 14 and though her lungs are a lot stronger than when she was little, if she gets sick it always goes straight to a respiatory infection. Baby boys have a much harder time than the girls…
So, Kendra’s little guy’s lungs are far from developed.

- Shea on

wow. some of you guys are harsh. and amused that for all of you who aren’t sure and who are looking things up…one thing to be curious, another to be admonishing her “mom status” for not knowing. i’m a mom – and no playboy model – and a doctor in my own right – and i can honestly admit i have no idea the exact week at which the lungs developed. maybe she is just excited and in awe? sounds like a mom to me :) i find them adorable and refreshingly honest for some reason.

- brannon on

I just love Kendra. She honestly seems like a sweet and honest person. Clearly she’s very exicited about being a mom, it’s cute!

- gargoylegurl on

Kendra- if you happen to read this, check out Community North Hospital in Indy. I gave birth to my twins there and they have awesome maternity suites! It’s nice and private and you can give birth in the same room that you stay.

- urbanadventurertales on

I love kendra. She will make an amazing mom. My daughter was born at 41 weeks and was in the nicu from Dec 21st to Jan 10th on beathing machines and all and got rsv every year until she was 3 and had to be hospitalized. But my oldest who is now 5 was 4 pounds when born and came home normally at 3″11 had no beathing problems and I was induced at 37 weeks bc they call it gestationally retarded. I think the lungs are on a baby by baby basis. Kendra should come to iowa. We have some of the best docs and hospitals! This is going to be a gorgeous baby. Hank is not very dark and so this baby will have a nice tan color. He will be a stud! Good luck to them and their baby!

- Trina on

Trina, I don’t mean to nit-pick, but Hank is biracial and Kendra is white, so the child could be anywhere in between their skin tones. Either way, he’ll be a cutie. But it’s not automatic that he’ll have a “nice tan”.

- urbanadventurertales on

A Kendra post with all POSITVE comments? I think I’m going to faint! LOL! :)

- CelebBabyLover on

I love this couple! So down to earth and real. I didn’t know one could breast feed with implants..

- Joy on

Well she could pick Tony Dungy’s sister- Dr Lauren as her OB/GYN–but I think maybe she only does high-risk situations however the facility where she works in Indy is great. And I’m sure Hank playing for the Colt’s is very temporary, his agent is probably working hard to get them back out to warmer climates and fancier stores than Indy!

- Tracy on

i just love this couple! they’re so excited to be married to each other & just can’t wait to be parents! she may not be a genius, but she’s genuine & that says a lot about her. glad to have him as a player in indy. it just goes to show that the colts pick GOOD citizens as their players. welcome to indy, it’s a great place to settle & raise your beautiful family!

- jes on

JMO I am right there with you. I can’t believe we traded this guy for that Animal Abuser. I actually lived a bit down from Hank and met Kendra once. I couldn’t believe she was the same girl I saw on the TV. She was very nice, very sweet and very funny. You can never judge a book by its cover.

- Kate on

So happy for Kendra…she truly seems SO excited about this baby!

- Daisy on

Sorry to sound negative, but the lungs are not fully developed at her stage in pregnancy. My son was born at 32 weeks and I was lucky to be able to keep him in long enough after having preterm labor to get the steroid shots to help speed up his lung development. He still had to be on oxygen for a few days and of course stay in the hospital for 5 weeks. It sounds like she isn’t even near the 32 week mark to me.

- Julie on

Just wanted to add that I think mothers of preemies such as myself are more sensitive to remarks like that, and wish we could have kept them in longer. Luckily my son is perfectly healthy and happy and you’d never know he was a preemie, but it’s something that stays with you forever so it causes you to be almost experts in development stages and more sensitive, especially when people think they’re ready to deliver when they start getting bigger. I’m not saying Kendra is doing this though, she has a great attitude and I’m happy for her and Hank!

- Julie on

Yes, I really think she meant the lungs are formed. I was amazed as well how all the organs are THERE so early. It makes sense though, you have to have the basic parts first, just still boggled my mind and was wonderful to know that it was a complete person in there.

As for breasts, I totally understand, as I’m sure many of you do. I had milk in, yes milk + some colostrum, by the 1st week of my second trimester with both of my pregnancies. TMI I know but I could squirt it across the room! You can only imagine how much milk when it all actually came in! I’m a DD to begin with, they got so huge. They deflated and now I’m only 26 and they look like old lady boobs, saggers. I dont need reduction but man do I need a lift.

- am581 on

Give her a break gals! She’s a first time mom, and frankly, it’s not like she was in med school before getting pregnant! She’s learning about her baby’s development from the baby center emails just like the rest of us did, and probably just misunderstood one part.
I wasn’t a huge fan or anything of hers, but her excitement in being a mother is so genuine, it’s very sweet. Hopefully she’s reading up on what happens AFTER the baby is born as much as she’s reading up on what’s happening during her pregnancy though – or else the poor thing will be in for a shock!

- Mrs. R. on

Poor Kendra…shes always being hated on from this site. Congrats to Kendra and Hank. They seem very happy. I think they are going to be terrific parents. Heck…I can think of a few worse then them!

- jess on

Congrats to them both!

…as a Mom to two kiddos, though, I wouldn’t want to switch doctors at this stage of the game. I do understand that a big move would make it impossible to stick with your previous OBGYN.

I hope she finds someone she likes!

- Amy on

The lungs are no where near “fully developed” and sadly his eyes are not open yet either. My god son was born at 25 weeks 3 years ago and his Mother had numerous rounds of steroids (as did I with my first) for lung development. When he was born his left eye was still fused shut and he was placed on CPAP for 6 weeks along with feeding tubes and monitors.

Anyways Kendra has always seemed “spacey” to me so this comment doesn’t suprise me in the least. I wouldn’t be suprised if baby Hank is born with 4 teeth either..LOL

- Mommyof3 on

love Kendra and happy for her and Hank but do we really need a play by play of her pregnancy arnt somethings meant to be private! lol

- summer on

Mommyof3- She said his eyes are “STARTING to open”, not that they actually are open. I have watched the National Geographic Channel special “In The Womb” several times, and in that documentery they said that, although it was previously believed that the eyes don’t open at all until the seventh month, researchers are discovering (via new technology like 4-D ultrasounds) that some babies open their eyes sooner than that.

Anyway, I, too, think Kendra just meant that the lungs are formed now. Per “In The Womb”, by Kendra’s stage of pregnancy (the third trimester), all of the major organs are formed….they’re just immature (in other words, not yet fully developed).

- CelebBabyLover on

I’m guessing that she means she’ll remove her implants if necessary, right? In my experience, my boobs are the same size they were pre-baby, but they are not the same shape. They are much softer and droopier :-( Oh well, my daughter was certainly worth it.

- Summer on

The lungs are nowhere near developed, Kendra.

- Kate on

Wow…so many know-it-alls on this site.
Judgemental much?

- Michelle on

Kate- As I said in my previous post, Kendra probably just meant that the lungs are fully FORMED now, not fully developed. Also, I don’t think it’s right to say the the lungs are “nowhere near developed”.

Yes, they’re still very immature at the stage of pregnancy Kendra is at. However, Baby Hank’s lungs ARE developed enough now that he can pratice breathing (and get hiccups!). Also, his lungs have reached a very important milestone. They are now producing surfactant, which is a material that lubricates the lungs and allows them to stay open. With it out, the lungs would literally collapse after each breath.

Basically, all Baby Hank’s lungs (and other organs) have to do now is grow and mature! :)

Mommyof3- Actually, Baby Hank COULD techincally be born with four teeth. Some babies ARE born with teeth (which are known as natal teeth). It’s rare, but it DOES happen! :)
