Julianna Margulies: Kieran Is Still Adjusting to My Work Schedule

Dave Allocca/Startraks

As a wife and mother of one, Julianna Margulies never envisioned herself showing compassion for a woman who supports her husband following an affair — until she stepped into the role in her latest series The Good Wife.

“My reaction would have been to get the hell out of there,” she explains. “Since I’ve been playing her, everything has changed.”

Her sudden change of heart is due in part to 20-month-old Kieran Lindsay, her son with husband Keith Lieberthal.

“Since I’ve had my own child…it’s not just about your feelings. I don’t want anyone to think I’m condoning affairs. I’m not. We’re so quick to judge everybody. But it’s a domino effect.”

Life on the set of the show has stirred new feelings in all involved, including Kieran! “He’s still getting used to it,” the proud mama explains. “He’s a year and he doesn’t quite understand.” Case in point? Her son is still grasping the concept of a work day. “He says, ‘Mama work.’ And I say, ‘Yes, Mama is going to work now,’” Julianna says.

“When I was leaving today, he waved bye-bye. Sometimes he gets sad.”

When the juggling of both her career and motherhood prove too much to bear, Julianna turns to her good friend, fellow actress — and mother-of-two — Kyra Sedgwick. “Kyra e-mailed me to say, ‘One scene at a time and you’ll get through it,’” she shares. Fortunately, Julianna, 43, is more than aware of the added comforts that balance the demands of an actress.

“I find the work exhilarating. I love that I can bring my kid to the show and I love that weekends are just family.”

The Good Wife airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m.
