Peg Perego Si: Yes! A Lightweight Stroller with Serious Suspension!
Peg Perego Si Lightweight Stroller |
The Peg Perego Si ($224-249) — Si means yes in Italian — is a lightweight stroller with terrific suspension that can also take an infant car seat! Weighing in at about 12 pounds, it can hold a child up to 40 lbs.
Not only does it break down easily and stand while folded, it also offers a full coverage sun canopy, extendable leg rest, a decent-size shopping basket and telescoping, height adjustable handles. The one-touch open and easy-to-navigate wheels makes this Italian-made stroller perfect for the city or quick errands.
While it looks similar to the Peg Perego’s Pliko P3 (read our review here), there are some differences: the Si doesn’t have a child tray/bumper bar, rear footboard, or floating harness. The fold is also slightly different from the P3. The width and length of the Si are slightly smaller versus the P3.
Width comparison: P3 is 21 inches wide / Si is 20 inches.
Length comparison: P3 is 34 inches / Si is 33.5 inches long.
Putting it Together
You just have to attach the cup holder and shopping basket. Wheels are already attached.
The Ride
The ride is really smooth, due to the ball bearing suspension of the 6.5 inch wheels. It has a tight-turning radius and will navigate narrow store aisles well. I could easily push it one-handed, while holding onto my older child. The Si is really lightweight so it’s easy to get it in and out of a car. It will also work nicely for public transportation — it can fold up quickly when needed and has a carry handle (would have loved if there was a carry strap).
The Seat
The seat was upright, comfortable and slightly padded. The front seat has four positions, including a deep (but not flat) recline. The seat is suitable for babies over 3 months. If you want to use the Si as a travel system, use the included infant car seat straps to secure the handles to the stroller.
Storage
The large shopping basket can be best accessed from the front. While I was able to load around $40 in groceries in the Si, I recommend making sure you don’t overload this lighterweight stroller (you have to be careful with total weight (child plus packages, etc. on all strollers). Load the shopping basket first, then put in your child, then load the bags on the handles. Unload your child before you take the groceries out.
Sun/Weather Exposure
The sunshade provides full coverage, with a UV mesh visor and UV viewing window with a flap covering. I loved that it also tilted forward. It also includes a rain cover which snaps right onto each side of the canopy.
Accessories
The rain cover, cup holder and infant car seat straps are included.
The Fold
This stroller has an umbrella fold. To fold: Raise the backrest if lowered and make sure the sun canopy is folded back. Then pull each part of the two prong paddle on the right side, pull the handles back until the side clips (the top part of the frame) each release, then grip the central handle and pull it upward until it closes. While it sounds complicated, it only took about 5 seconds — think of it as click, click, pull. The folded stroller will be able to stand upright on its own (a huge plus). To unfold: push the silver button on the left side of the left handle and the pull up the two levers on the handles and at the same time, lift the stroller, which will open automatically. Make sure the side clips (the part of the frame) click into place pushing down on the seat help that.
Pros:
This is a wonderful public transportation, neighborhood and in-and-out of the car stroller. You can’t beat the simple fold and the upright storage.
Cons:
Will tip if too much weight on the handles; no child tray; wish it had a carry strap. Not for jogging or walking on extreme terrains.
Recommended For: Parents who want to travel light, but don’t want to sacrifice on proper sun coverage and suspension.
Final Verdict: The Si shines with frequent car and public transportation use.
