Alonzo and Tracy Mourning Welcome Son Alijah

Seth Browarnik/Startraks

It’s another boy for former Miami Heat center Alonzo Mourning and wife Tracy! The 39-year-old basketball star welcomed his third child — and second son — on Friday, September 18th. Alijah Harden Mourning arrived at 4:28 p.m., weighing in at 8 pounds and measuring 20 inches in length.

Pronounced similar to Elijah, the Miami Herald reports that the couple chose the unique spelling in order to give Alijah the same initials as his dad and 13-year-old big brother Alonzo III. He will also be welcomed by big sister Myka Sydney, 8 ½, at home.

The pregnancy was announced in June, with Tracy celebrating her baby shower last month.

I got a fright! I skimmed over the title of the article and missed the ‘welcome’. Thank goodness I reread it!

Congratulations. I prefer Elijah though.

I like Elijah spelt with an A better…it’s cute and unique!! Congrats to Alonzo and Tracy!!

I read it slight wrong and i thought they were in mourning. Thankfully I reread it! Congrats to the couple and I know they have their reasons for spelling it Alijah (which is cute) but I prefer the usual spelling.

I am pregnant and expecting a baby in March. I don’t know the sex yet. Both of my daughters have “A” names. I was not planning it, that just happened that way. I love the name ELijah and I am considering it for a boy, but I also thought about making it “Alijah” since I tend to say “Ah-lie-jah” instead of “Elie-jah” I don’t know…hmm.

the way they spelle dhis name is definitely unique but it makes me want to pronounce it the spanish way: “uh-lee-ha.” With the j pronounced as an “h!” :)

I don’t care for creative spellings, but I think elijah is a nice name. Maura, I think it would be nicer to go with the normal spelling rather than have all A’s, especially to actually change a name to fit your A plan…just my opinion

ritter- But then won’t her new baby wonder why s/he is the only only sibling without an A name?

I read it wrong also! :( But I’m glad that all is well :)
